Grocery Chain Salute To Military

Food City actually dates back to 1918 when a store was opened in Greeneville, Tennessee, but K-VA-T Food Stores’ official beginning took place in 1955 when founder Jack C. Smith--with his father, Curtis and uncle, Earl--opened the first store in Grundy, Virginia. Since that time, Food City has grown in leaps through the acquisition of several Piggly Wiggly operations in Southwest Virginia and Eastern Kentucky, along with Quality Foods/Food City, White Stores, Winn Dixie and BI-LO units in east Tennessee. The company has also grown steadily by expansion into new market areas while remodeling and replacing existing locations as needed to best serve their customers.

Elder Woman Found Dead in Rhode Island Home

[From article]
Police are investigating after an elderly woman was found dead inside her Woonsocket home.
Police are saying the death of the 78-year-old woman is considered suspicious. They have not elaborated on how she died, but say they found her Wednesday afternoon after responding for a well-being check at 191 Fairfield Avenue.
A neighbor told ABC6 News his son spotted her through a back window.
"She was in the bedroom laying down underneath the mattress. Obviously they flipped the mattress on top of her and left it like that."
That man who asked not to be identified described the inside of the home as being ransacked.
"Police officers told me when they interviewed me at work today that the whole bedroom looked like there was a big fight."
Police spent the night scouring through the home. Officers were spotted taking fingerprints and removing evidence bags.
"We've been handling this investigation as a suspicious death," said Acting Woonsocket Police Chief Michael Lemoine. "This appears to be an isolated event at this time."
Neighbors identify the woman as Connie, and say they're still trying to wrap their heads around what exactly happened.
"She was a peaceful woman she was sweet, a really sweet woman," said Joy Young. "I don't really know what's going on and I grew up on this street so I'm feeling a little emotional. It's a sad day."
“As far as I know she would not have any enemies she just kept to herself, did gardening, did her morning walk and gave dogs treats. She was a very kind person," said Tammy Deorsey.

Sarah Palin Sells Arizona Home

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin has put her luxury Arizona mansion on the market for $2.5million which includes a lighted sports court

[From article]
Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin has put her luxury Arizona mansion on the market for $2.5million.
The six-bedroom estate, which boasts its own private heated swimming pool and spa, lighted sports court and even a wine cellar, is located in acres of equestrian grounds in Scottsdale.
Behind a private gated entrance, the 7971sq ft home showcases includes 6.5 bathrooms, a six car garage and offers stunning mountain views from virtually every room.
The 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate bought the property in 2011 for $1.7 million.

It has been a happy time for Palin who met her newborn granddaughter, Sailor Grace on December 23, after she was born to her daughter Bristol, 25.

On Christmas Eve, Bristol used her personal blog to share a note from her mother about Sailor Grace’s birth, in which she calls the baby ‘the best gift ever!’.
The letter read: ‘Thank you, Bristol, for your strength and good heart and your love of life. The most important people in Bristol’s life were there to witness the miracle of Sailor Grace Palin’s arrival last night.
‘Thank you for sharing the miracle with Piper, Marina, and me, Bri! And we thank Todd for taking care of the rest of the family during this most precious beginning of a great new chapter!’
Sarah Palin spoke in November about Bristol's pregnancy, second chances, screwing up and the excitement of bringing another baby into the world.
'Well, the cool thing about puttin’ your faith in God is, He certainly is a God of second chances – and third, and fourth and fifth chances. I screw up all the time,' she told CBS.
Announcing the happy news on her Instagram account on Christmas Eve, the daughter of former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin revealed that she welcomed the baby on Wednesday December 23, one day before her due date.

Cambridge, MA Residents Fear Property Tax Increase

Migrants (some claim refugee status) will continue to arrive in this sanctuary city, demanding better jobs, free food, free housing, free health care, free tuition, and free legal services. Those born with white privilege must show moral and spiritual good will, and give to the undeserving who want what they have. If you don't give it willingly they will take it from you, when they are the majority. Do you expect wealthy corporate not for profit charity volunteers at Harvard University to pay for the migrants?

Baltimore Home of U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) Burns

[From article]
The home of Congressman Elijah Cummings of Baltimore caught fire this morning. Cummings was in Washington at the time of the fire.
[. . .]
"I was in a Transportation Committee hearing when I learned about the fire at my house in Baltimore," Cummings reportedly told the press in a statement. "The fire started on the third floor of the house and the Fire Department is investigating the cause. Thankfully, no one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. I am grateful to all of those who have expressed their concern."
"When things like this happen I do not ask the question, 'why did it happen to me?' I ask the question, 'Why did it happen for me,'" Cummings said. "There's something to be gained from this. I don't know what it is yet.

Cambridge, MA Housing and Movers, Not Shakers

This article fails to recognize the effect of Newton's first two laws of motion, on people moving. First law: a body at rest will remain at rest unless an external force acts on it. Second law: a body in motion will continue in motion in a straight line unless an external force acts on it. How many people who do not move have not had any external forces on them? How many with external forces moved? That would provide facts to explain the market and allow for planning and investment.

Squatters Take Possession Of Vacant New York City Homes

[From article]
“If I give up now, I’m going to be on the street,” Johns said. “We are not trespassing — we were invited by someone who said he adverse possessed the building.”
Another 40-year-old resident, who declined to give his name, said, “For years, no one was maintaining the building. Now we’re here. We’re helping people in need.”
In the 1980s and ’90s, low-income artists and activists took over and rehabilitated dozens of unoccupied, rotting buildings in the East Village and Lower East Side. They sought legal ownership of their homes, but the city repeatedly tried to evict them — including one violent incident in 1995, when hundreds of cops in riot gear booted the squatters. The city finally granted ownership to 11 surviving squatter buildings in 2002.

Anti Semitic Vandalism On Private Wisconsin Homes

[From article]
At least 30 homes in Madison, Wisconsin, were vandalized overnight Friday, some with anti-Semitic slurs and swastikas.
Other residents awoke to derogatory words geared toward women and other minorities sprayed on their homes, cars, garage doors, mailboxes and driveways, according to the Coordination Forum for Countering Anti-Semitism.
One resident, Jim Stein, told Wisconsin television station WISC TV, “Everyone in the neighborhood is pretty upset.”
Stein woke up Saturday morning to discover “F— Jews” scrawled on a garage door across the street and a swastika on the driveway.
“It was, of course, extremely disturbing to me,” Stein, who is the president of the Jewish Federation of Madison, told the station. Other graffiti included a garage door defaced with the words “KKK Bound.”

Home Driveway Robberies in Memphis, TN

[From article]
"As soon as I was about to put my key in, I just hear something come behind me real fast and I jumped and turned around and I had a big gun in my face," said victim Margaret Watkins.
Watkins and her 5-year-old daughter were held up at gunpoint in their own driveway by a man wearing a mask.
"I'm holding my baby...then he was like, 'Turn around turn around'...I guess my daughter was still looking at him he put the gun in her head," said Watkins. "And then he asks me the pin code to my bank card and I gave it to him. I was so scared I couldn't even lie."
Watkins says she's grateful to be alive, but she's definitely making some changes.
“I added locks, but I think I'm going to get some cameras,” said Watkins.
Officials arrested the two teens charged with aggravated robbery, among other charges, Friday afternoon.

World's Super Rich Own $3 trillion in Homes

[From article]
In fact, those with inherited wealth hold 17% of their net worth in luxury residential real estate, compared with just under 9% for self-made multi-millionaires. MA Mother of Toddler Goes Into Burning House to Save Her Baby On Christmas Eve

SOUTHWICK BLAZE: Hanna Turner broke through a window to save her son, Samuel DelNegro, from a fire that tore through the family’s Southwick home on Christmas Eve.

[From article]
“It was a close call,” said Southwick Fire Chief Richard Anderson. He said his firefighters were en route, but fast-moving flames were already ripping through the home overlooking Congamond Lakes — and the window was the only way to get to the tot — when Turner broke through glass, lacerating her legs to save her son’s life.
“What she did probably saved her baby — no two ways about it,” said Anderson, who said his crews were still about two precious minutes away. “We would have gotten there, but how much smoke damage would the baby have suffered before we got there? She certainly seemed to do the right thing.”
[. . .]
Anderson said the family had returned home from a Christmas party and put the boy to bed in a basement apartment of the two-family home and went upstairs. Another resident smoking on an upper deck saw smoke coming out of the basement at about 11:45 p.m. and alerted the other residents. The only way into the lower floor by then was through a window, the chief said. The mom broke it, crawled in and handed the boy out to his father.

Louisiana U.S. Senator Challenged on Residence

[From article]
A week ago, Maness, a Tea Party-backed retired Air Force colonel, informed the Louisiana secretary of state of inconsistencies in Landrieu’s residency status. The Washington Post looked into the issue and found she listed her parents’ home in New Orleans to qualify for the ballot, but listed her home on Capitol Hill in Washington as her home address.
"The Constitution, Louisiana law and common sense say candidates for Senate have to live here when they qualify — all of the evidence shows that Mary Landrieu doesn't live here," Maness said in a statement.
"Election Code empowers our district attorneys to object to a candidate's qualification when presented with evidence,” he continued. “There is no question that compelling and overwhelming evidence has now been presented. The most appropriate way to resolve this is to have the law upheld by the proper authorities."

Drug Resistant Illnesses Travel from Hospitals to Homes

[From article]
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that in communities outside of health care settings, most MRSA strains are skin infections that are spread by physical contact, such as the sharing of towels or razors. Athletes, military barracks, prisons and other close-quarter living areas are at an increased risk of contracting and spreading the bug.
In medical facilities, MRSA causes life-threatening bloodstream infections, pneumonia and surgical infections.
But the new study shows that the MRSA has spread into average U.S. homes.
