A woman was taken hostage by a terror suspect in a dramatic stand-off at a tram stop in Brussels today.
Witnesses told how heavily armed anti-terror police shot the man in the leg because he was carrying a rucksack they believed contained a bomb.
As police moved in the suspect then grabbed a woman and pulled her to the ground.
In heart-stopping footage captured from a balcony above where the drama unfolded, the man can be seen letting a little girl no older than five go as officers get closer.
The clip then shows specially trained anti-terror police in bullet proof vests gently coaxing the frightened girl to safety as the target grabbed the woman.

Seven were arrested during police raids in Brussels on Thursday night;
Among those held was convicted ISIS recruiter Reda Kriket;
The 34-year-old French national had been in the 'advanced stages' of planning an attack in France. He was found with heavy weapons and explosives in his apartment;
Two men were held in Germany suspected of being linked to the Brussels bombers;
Claims surfaced that Paris terror suspect Salah Abdeslam was plotting a machine gun massacre over Easter before he was arrested.
Today’s shootout, in the Schaerbeek area of north Brussels, began with two explosions, which triggered panic in a city still reeling from Tuesday’s bloodbath which left 31 dead and 270 injured.

A group of women having their hair done at Meshairs hair salon over the road from the tram stop told of the moment they saw officers get the little girl away from the man.
Sabina, a hairdresser, told MailOnline: ‘I heard all this shouting and commotion outside. I looked out the window and saw the police approach, crouched down.
‘The man saw them and grabbed the woman and the child and took them hostage. He let the child go and pulled the woman to the ground and lay on top of her.
‘Then the police shot him in the leg. He was then pulled away by police. The woman was screaming and crying.’
The suspect was ‘neutralised’ and dragged off to a waiting police car, witnesses added.

With the scene cleared, a bomb robot rolled in and lifted the rucksack, which a bomb disposal expert then inspected.
Photographs taken shortly afterwards showed smoke rising from the backpack, which may have been blown up in a controlled explosion.
Another video clearly showed a man wearing an orange jacket coaxing the child to safety before she was carried away to safety.
Today’s shooting took place in the Brussels suburb of Schaerbeek – the scene of a number of anti-terror raids in the last few days.
Najim Laachraoui, the master bomber who blew himself up at Zaventem airport on Tuesday, killing 14, and whose DNA was found on the suicide vests in Paris, lived in Schaerbeek.
DNA traces of Balal Hadfi, one of the Paris bombers, were also found in a flat in Schaerbeek along with a cache of explosives in December.

One witness, speaking about today's raid, told local TV station RTBF: 'I heard two explosions, they were shooting. I opened the window and saw a man lying near the tram stop.
Another told La Libre newspaper: 'The police ordered him to show his hands, remove his jacket. They said that if he did not comply, they would use their weapons.'
The Mayor of Schaerbeek, Bernard Clerfayt, later confirmed that 'a person was intercepted by police and suffered a slight leg injury'. He added there had been several small explosions linked to bomb disposal work.
Sources at the scene told MailOnline a man inside the flat carrying explosives may have been about to launch a suicide attack.
It is thought two unmarked cars pulled up outside a house, after which two explosions were heard - one of which is understood to blown open the door. There is speculation that one of the explosions may have been a stun grenade.

It comes as French President Francois Hollande said this afternoon the Islamist militant network behind attacks in Paris and Brussels was being destroyed, but there remained other cells that continue to pose a threat.
'We know that there are other networks. Even if the one behind the attacks in Paris and Brussels is in the process of being wiped out, a threat continues to remain,' Hollande said ahead of a meeting with former Israeli President Shimon Peres.
Meanwhile, there have been separate reports today of another raid in a Belgian town 60 miles south of Brussels.

Three men of foreign origin were arrested at an 80-bedroom hotel in Dinant and police are searching the evacuated building for explosives.
The town's mayor Richard Fournaux said it was too early to say whether the operation was linked to the bombings earlier this week.
Two suspect packages have been found – one in a car near the building, which was hosting a business conference, and one in a hotel room.
Bomb disposal experts are examining both packages.

Today's dramatic raid comes after seven people were arrested in Belgium and Paris overnight by masked anti-terror police across Europe in connection with the Brussels massacres and a new terror plot.
Armed police swooped on properties in the Schaerbeek and Jette districts of Brussels and arrested a total of six people, who are thought to be connected to Tuesday's airport and Metro bombings.
German police have also arrested two more people with suspected links to the attackers while a new suspect in the Brussels plot, 28-year-old Syrian Naim al-Hamed, has also been identified.
It comes as it was revealed that the Frenchman arrested in the northern Paris suburb of Argenteuil last night was a convicted ISIS recruiter who was in the 'advanced stages' of planning an attack in France.

It comes as Belgian police admitted a catastrophic police blunder allowed Paris bombings logistics chief Salah Abdeslam to remain at large for more than three months.
A dedicated beat officer gave information about the whereabouts of Abdeslam to superiors on December 7 and urged them to pass it on to the country's anti-terrorist police. But the confidential report was inexplicably not passed onto the federal bureau.

In Germany, it emerged that police had arrested two people they suspect are linked to the Islamist suicide bombers.
It said one of the men, arrested on Wednesday near Frankfurt, received two mobile phone messages shortly before the bombings that included the name of Khalid El Bakraoui, the man Belgian police say blew himself in a Brussels metro station.

Sky News came into possession of the training videos after an Islamic State trainer who had the videos was captured in Syria (by what’s left of the Free Syrian Army) as he was traveling through Turkey en route to Europe. The FSA passed the videos on to Sky News. And Sky News passed the videos on to the authorities in the U.K. A weapons adviser to the British military described them as an intelligence “gold mine.”

The Foreign Office responded with a statement: “Daesh will use all measures at their disposal to cause harm, and Britain will never be cowed by such terrorists. Our values are so much stronger than theirs. It will take time but this is an organisation that is losing territory and will be defeated.”
Please tell me I didn’t just read that.
“Our values” are stronger than theirs? Well, yes they are. (Duh.) But right now, the Islamic State is waging war, and the West is indeed “cowed.” The Islamic State is waging war with increasingly sophisticated weapons, and we’re showing up with our values – values that won’t mean a damn thing if we’re all slaughtered.

In any case it diverts attention from the religious beliefs of Sharia law, and puts the blame on fake illnesses which are created by consensus. Where are the drug-company-subsidized alleged advocates for persons with disabilities? Do cats have their tongues? Why do journalists and police slander all persons accused of mental illness? Authorities say 23-year-old Alexander Ciccolo, who also went by the name Ali Al Amriki and posted about martyrdom on Facebook, spoke about setting off an explosive device “in places where large numbers of people congregate, such as college cafeterias.” He was seen purchasing a pressure cooker similar to the kind used by the perpetrators of the Boston Marathon bombing.
Ciccolo’s father reported his son to the FBI after noticing suspicious behavior, according to MyFoxBoston.

Two men who met during the Ferguson protests and plotted violence against law enforcement admitted in federal court here Tuesday that they planned to blow up a police station, the top St. Louis County prosecutor and the Ferguson police chief.
Olajuwon Ali Davis, 23, and Brandon Orlando Baldwin, 24, each pleaded guilty of four explosives and gun charges that will carry seven-year prison terms when the men are sentenced Aug. 31.

Federal agents and police tracked them and their calls and texts for weeks, recording some of the conversations. The two discussed using Baldwin, who was then an employee of the Cabela’s store in Hazelwood, to buy guns for felons and others. Baldwin admitted that he did buy three guns, falsifying federal forms by saying that the weapons were for him.

Baldwin, speaking to a second informer, said he wanted to build “bombs and blow things up,” his plea says, and “hit them in places where it hurt, hit someone important.”

Baldwin described himself as a field marshal for the party, his plea says. Davis said that he once carried a gun as part of a security detail for the party.
Davis spoke in October at a New Black Panther rally at the Greater St. Mark Family Church about the killing of Brown. Davis was identified that day as the Missouri chapter’s “minister of law.”

Connecticut Bank Robbers Invade Home of Bank Employee, Use Fake Bombs

Sources say the suspects told Yussman he would have to 'empty the vault', but that he was able to call a co-worker who notified police.

[From article] A bank manager said he and his mother were strapped to supposed explosives after two masked suspects broke into their home on Monday morning.
The man said he was then forced to drive the suspects to the Achieve Financial Credit Union in New Britain, Connecticut, which, sources say, the suspects planned to rob.
It wasn't until officers responded to the home invasion call in Bristol and found a woman tied to her bed, with an explosive placed underneath, that they realized the two incidents were connected.
Police said they have not yet determined if the bank manager is a victim or a suspect.
When police arrived at the scene they found the man sitting alone in a car outside the Credit Union, the explosives still tied to his body.
The man said the intruders threatened to kill both him and his mother if he did not take cash out of the credit union, according to the Hartford Courant.
The suspects had disappeared by the time police arrived.
Although he has not yet been identified by police, public records show the home in Bristol belongs to credit union CFO Matthew Yussman, according to WFSB.
Neighbors told say he lives at the house with his mother.
The man was kept in the vehicle while officers 'cleared the area of residents and shut down nearby roadways,' New Britain Police Chief James Wardwell said during a press conference.

It was not just the labyrinth of tunnels discovered, much more extensive than expected, but the stockpiles: thousands of weapons, Russian anti-tank missiles, explosive devices, and large amounts of tranquillisers, handcuffs, syringes, ropes. The tools of capture on a large scale.
Some of the tunnels are very deep, big enough to hold vehicles. They were dug with electric jackhammers, mostly about 20 metres below ground, and reinforced with concrete made on site, in workshops adjacent to the tunnels.
The tunnels served as command centres, infiltration points into Israel, weapons stores, rocket-launcher hiding sites, and the means to move and conceal fighters during urban combat. The tunnels dug into Israel were created in parallel pairs, with multiple shafts to the surface for multiple entry points. Inside urban Gaza, the labyrinth could allow fighters to move unseen between homes and alleys.
Gaza had been wired for war. On a scale more advanced than Israeli military intelligence realised, which is why the Israel Defence Forces lost more than 40 soldiers in the first phase of Operation Protective Edge.

Palestinian Teen Throws Bomb at German Synagogue

BERLIN: German police arrested an 18-year-old man after petrol bombs were thrown at a synagogue in the western town of Wuppertal overnight, they said in a statement on Wednesday.
"According to investigations, three suspects threw several incendiary devices at the entrance," police said. No one was hurt and it appears no damage was done to the synagogue, they said. A local resident had alerted them when she saw a fire close to the building.
Prosecutor Hans-Joachim Kiskel said the nationality of the arrested suspect was not clear but added that the man had told authorities he was Palestinian. The other two suspects fled.

The Israeli Defence Force yesterday issued a mocked-up picture of the Houses of Parliament with missiles raining down on the building, alongside the words: “What would you do?” It is a good question. Indeed, as the IDF continues its offensive in Gaza, causing huge suffering among the civilian population of the benighted Palestinian enclave, it is one that Israel’s critics need to answer – but can’t.
The Labour MP Andy Slaughter, secretary of the Britain-Palestine All-Party Parliamentary Group, called the montage a piece of “crass propaganda” that showed the Israelis “have lost all sense of perspective”. Propaganda it may be; but it is easy to throw brickbats from the peace and security of Westminster. In similar circumstances, what would we do to protect our families and territory?
We should also remember how this particular set of circumstances developed. The kidnapping and murder of three Israeli students last month was blamed on Hamas, and the tit-for-tat killing of an Arab boy ratcheted up tensions even further on the West Bank. Yet the Israeli government arrested the suspects and was intending to bring them to justice. At this point, missiles were fired from inside Gaza, initially by Islamic Jihad but then with the backing of Hamas. Hundreds fell on Israeli towns close to the border and some made it as far as Tel Aviv. The fact that Israel’s “Iron Dome” missile defence shield proved effective in minimising casualties does not mitigate the enormity of the attack on its soil.

Abuja is in the center of Nigeria and the militants have spread their attacks to the capital. Two separate explosions in Abuja in April killed more than 120 people and wounded about 200 at a busy bus station. Both were claimed by Boko Haram, which has threatened further attacks.
A bomb at a medical college in northern Kano killed at least eight people Monday. Last week, at least 14 died in a bomb blast at a World Cup viewing site in Damaturu, a state capital in the northeast. In May, twin car bombs in the central city of Jos left more than 130 people dead. And a car bomb at a bus station killed 24 people in the Christian quarter of Kano, a Muslim city.

Here's one more example of misguided police priorities. This young couple were drug addicts from middle class backgrounds living in New York City. They bought sold and used cocaine and heroin. They were caught when they stole credit cards and laptop computers. The young man had an extensive collection of weapons. No one was watching them, no less harassing them and broadcasting relentless character assassination about them. But in Cambridge MA on and around property owned and operated by the President and Fellows of Harvard College, local police employees working for crime families join Communist sympathizers conducting a 40-year campaign against a now 70-year-old law abiding white male who they say is disabled. Charming graduate students disturb his sleep and tamper with computer communications every day 24/7/365. There are truly upside down standards for scrutiny in the United States. Police do not harass criminals. They harass law abiding harmless civilians for fun, for sport and for pay.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s page on the Russian social networking site Vkontakte says he attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, graduating in 2011, the year he won the scholarship, which was celebrated with a reception at City Hall, according to a news release issued at the time.

Eric Mercado, who graduated a year behind the suspect, said Tsarnaev had worked at Harvard University as a lifeguard.

Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev was a quiet boy on the wrestling team at Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School, where he graduated in 2011, said classmate Deana Beaulieu, 20.

They attended school together since the 7th grade, first at Cambridge Community Charter School, then high school, she said.

He lived on Norfolk Street with his family, including an older brother and sister, that whole time, she said.

At press conferences the day after two bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon the Massachusetts Governor and his Chicago colleague and friend the President of the US promised to get to the bottom of the attacks. They leaped into action and ordered the flags on government buildings lowered to half mast. Do they inspire confidence or what? US Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) spoke at a press conference saying that the President is on the job. Does that mean she is not needed? He's taking care of it and everything else? Three were killed, including one 8-year-old Boston boy, and 175 injured. The Mayor of Boston and the Governor urged citizens to stay home, and to stay away from areas where a lot of people congregate after the bombing. 

On the weekend of the Marathon in Boston thousands of young people from all over the world could usually be seen at area restaurants, touring the universities and drinking at the local adult beverage lounges. The night of the Marathon this year after the bombs the streets were deserted. Three Boston hotels were evacuated. The Boston Bruins (hockey) canceled their game for the next night. Several colleges closed for the day. 

Does that mean that the terrorists won? After 9/11 New York officials and the President urged people to go to dinner or to a Broadway show. Else the terrorists would win they told us. What has changed? Have the terrorists won in  Boston? Rush Limbaugh said the Boston attack was an attack on the Pursuit of Happiness. Why are all of those photogenic psychiatrists who claim they are omniscient and morally superior than ordinary people so loudly silent? They are permitted to predict the future in courts. Why didn't they warn us about this attack?

Is the FBI checking all informants who have permission to commit crimes like Jimmy Bulger and Stevie Flemmi? One Boston radio announcer substituting on one show told us about victims who had their legs amputated. Did she tell us too much? Do we really want to hear about that?

Boston officials focus on determining the motive of the bomber(s). They are unable to find who did it. So, they speculate on the motive. Duh! Here's the motive people: They wanted to terrorize the public. Ya think?

What is the FBI doing about rounding up the Boston area mental patients? If they are not rounding them up, why not? I thought all violence was caused by mentally ill people. Terrorists tell us they love death more than we love life. Will enhanced penalties help deter these events? Especially when former bomb placer Bill Ayers and armed robbery ex-convict Kathy Boudin are now prominent academic professors? Is the message that if you commit a heinous crime and pay your dues or remain friends with politicians you can be a redeemed soul and leader of the nation?
