Journalists Maintain Silence About Gaza Rocket Attacks On Israel

[From article]
Israel's prime minister on Sunday slammed the international community's silence over recent rocket attacks from Gaza and warned that a strong reprisal could be forthcoming.
Benjamin Netanyahu said he hasn't heard a word of condemnation from the world about three rocket attacks from Gaza over the past two weeks. The rockets did not cause any injury or harm but disrupted the quiet in southern Israel that has mostly prevailed since last summer's war between Hamas and Israel.
"It will be interesting to see if this silence continues when we use all our strength in exercising our right to defend ourselves," Netanyahu said at his weekly Cabinet meeting. "It should be clear: the hypocrisy that is sweeping the world will not chain our hands from defending the citizens of Israel."
The Israeli military carried out an airstrike in the Gaza Strip early Sunday in response to the latest rocket attack from the Hamas-ruled territory. The projectile landed in an open area and there were no injuries or damage reported from the rocket attack or the airstrike.

Gaza Palestinians Fire Rockets Into Israel Again

[From article]
Israel's defense minister is blaming Islamic Jihad — a smaller Palestinian militant group in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip — for the latest rocket fired at Israel that drew retaliatory airstrikes overnight.
Moshe Yaalon says the airstrikes targeted both Islamic Jihad and Hamas sites in Gaza early on Wednesday, after Islamic Jihad fired a rocket toward southern Israel late on Tuesday night.
There was no immediate comment from Gaza and no Palestinian group claimed responsibility for the attack. The military says it carried out four airstrikes, with no casualties reported.
Israel holds Hamas responsible for any attacks from Gaza.

[From article]
A terrorist rocket fired from the Gaza Strip landed in Southern Israel near the heavily populated town of Ashkelon, the Israeli Army confirmed Tuesday afternoon.
It was not clear if Hamas or another splinter faction was responsible for the attack, which comes following a relatively long period of calm between Israel and the Palestinians following an intense war last summer.
Israeli Defense Forces spokesman Peter Lerner confirmed that “at least one rocket launched from Gaza struck Southern Israel” late Tuesday.
No one has been reported as injured as a result of the strike.
Alarms warning of the incoming rocket attack could be heard signaling through Ashkelon and surrounding areas.
[. . .]
Hamas denied that its military wing had anything to do with the attack.
Israeli officials have repeatedly warned that Hamas will be held responsible for any attack—by its own military wing or another group’s—on Israeli soil.
The rocket fire comes as Israeli officials renew warnings about the threat posed by a complex tunnel system running underneath the Gaza Strip and into Israel. Hamas has sought to use these tunnels to carry out terror attacks and abduct Israeli soldiers.
Hezbollah also has begun digging a similar system of tunnels around Israel’s northern border, according to reports.

Pope Tries To Hold Palestinians Accountable For Murder Of Christians

[From article]
The Vatican holds no sway in most of the region, but “The State of Palestine” claims responsibility for both Gaza and the West Bank. The Vatican may believe that use of the symbolic title “State of Palestine” is a reasonable trade-off for trying to formalize the responsibility of the PA for the behavior of Hamas in Gaza, as well as for its own harassed and declining Christian population.
[. . .]
Along with mandating Islamic dress codes for all women in Gaza, Hamas has banned wine, including wine for communion; it is brewed now in secret. In 2007, the owner of the Gaza's Bible Society bookstore was murdered after being accused of proselytizing. The YMCA library in Gaza was blown up and all 8,000 books were destroyed or stolen. In 2011, Hamas cancelled Christmas, banning festivities and crucifixes.
[. . .]
The Vatican and the Palestinians, it seems, were frying different fish. The Vatican needs to worry about Christians in the region and can't talk to ISIS or Syria or Iran, so it chose the “State of Palestine” to take a stand for the “essential life of the Church.” The PA only wants to look like a state in the eyes of the media and thus further irritate Israel -- and it succeeded.

Israel Withholds Taxes From Gaza For Joining International Criminal Court

[From article]
The Palestinian president has threatened to stop security coordination with Israel if the country continues to withhold millions of dollars of Palestinian tax revenue, a senior Palestinian official said Sunday.
Nabil Shaath said President Mahmoud Abbas warned European leaders on a trip to Europe last week that Palestinian officials would discuss the matter during a Palestinian central council meeting next week.
[. . .]
Israel has withheld tax revenue from the Palestinians since they joined the International Criminal Court last month. Shaath said the withheld revenue amounts to $140 million per month for the last two months.
Tax revenue accounts for about 70 percent of the Palestinians' budget. The withheld revenue has led the cash-strapped Palestinian government to take out bank loans. For the last two months, it has paid only partial salaries for civil servants.

Rising Anti Semitism and Aggression Against Israel Will Lead To War

[From article]
Now, with the blatant eruption of a reinvigorated anti-Semitism in Europe, the political campaign against Israel acquires its explicit racial underpinnings. The more vitriolic the attacks on Israel, running the spectrum from censure, defamation, to delegitimization, the more transparent the European culprit aflame with concentrated racist hatred of the Jews and their Jewish state.
The political backlash against Israel from the summer war in Gaza testifies to the moral bankruptcy of Europe and the loss of any equitable sense of justice. Now the Palestinian aggressor, undefeated and unrepentant, is to be rewarded with Gaza’s reconstruction. Mahmoud Abbas, unwilling to recognize the Jewish state of Israel, is to be rewarded with his own Palestinian state, according to sentiments in Sweden, Britain, and no doubt elsewhere.
[. . .]
Meanwhile Europe lives in denial, paralyzed by multiculturalism and national self-immolation, hypnotized by the dogma of human rights, guilt-ridden by its colonial past, and hoping to mollify Muslims on their streets and neighborhoods by offering up the sacrifice of Christians and Jews in the Middle East to the Islamic god of wrath. But Islam seeks world conquest that includes the West as well.
[. . .]
In 1967, the Arabs again declared their goal to be the annihilation of Israel; but Israel won, and another quarter of a million Arabs fled the country.
In 2014 the same scenario is unfolding. Pushed to the wall by Europeans who overlook and justify escalating domestic Arab violence and provocations, Israel will sooner or later need to unleash a severe response against the Muslims in the country who deny the right of Israel to exist, at all, and certainly as a Jewish and Zionist state.

Hamas Rebuilding Terror Tunnels

[From article]
Given the lack of an official truce agreement, it remains unclear how Israel will respond to Hamas rearming, resupplying, and – most importantly – rebuilding the tunnels leading into Israeli territory.
[. . .]
On Saturday, a senior Hamas official in the West Bank, Mahmoud al-Zahar, said that "if the Palestinian resistance in the West Bank held a quarter of the tools at the disposal of the resistance in Gaza – Israel would be demolished in a day."
[. . .]
"Victory has many fathers and failure has but one – its name is Netanyahu," al-Zahar said. The Hamas official also dismissed Israeli claims that the IDF destroyed all the group's tunnels. "Who is stopping us right now from building new tunnels?"

Gaza: In The Beginning

[From article]
I was in Israel in 2005, when every remnant of a Jewish presence was eradicated from Gaza when Israel withdrew its forces from there. This was a gut-wrenching and internally divisive decision for the state of Israel to make. Israeli soldiers were taught not to feel the pain, as they were instructed to uproot Jews from their homes. Jewish millionaires bought the greenhouses to give to the Palestinians, because they reasoned the nascent Palestinian state would need some sort of economic infrastructure. Some rabbis wanted to keep the synagogues, so that they would be turned into mosques. “After all”, they argued, “We all pray to the same God”. The moment the blue and white flag of the IDF was lowered, and the last soldier left Gaza, those greenhouses and synagogues were destroyed in a frenzied carnival of hate-infested anarchy.
Prior to the Gaza withdrawal my friends from the left told me, “This will finally prove to the world once and for all how far we are willing to go for the sake of peace.”

U.S. Progressives Support Iranian Funded Terror Groups In Gaza

[From article]
The message that the group seems to want to send is that Muslims in America are in league with Hamas, a violent gang that has been on the U.S. State Department’s list of terrorist organizations since 1997. Hamas was placed on the list the same day as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), another major threat operating in Gaza alongside Hamas. Hamas claims to be the government of Gaza. Both Hamas and PFLP are funded and armed by Iran.

Israel Withdraws Troops From Gaza After Destroying Tunnels; Two Killed In Jerusalem

[From article]
The driver of a construction excavator, identified by police as an east Jerusalem Palestinian, was shot dead by an officer after he rammed his vehicle into a bus, overturning it. As he charged toward the bus, the assailant ran over a man in the street, killing him, while the bus driver and five pedestrians were hurt when the vehicle was flipped on its side, police spokeswoman Luba Samri said.
An hour later, a man was shot in the stomach near the city’s Hebrew University campus on Mount Scopus by an assailant on a motorbike, police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said. Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat told Israel Radio the man who was shot was a soldier. Roadblocks were set up in the area.

Desperate Hamas Provoked Israeli Attacks

[From article]
it is Hamas doctrine; to fire at Israeli civilians and soldiers from within densely populated neighborhoods, schools, hospitals and mosques. That is because their doctrine, as a terrorist army fighting a Western democracy, is to commit acts of terror against us, while claiming the mantle of victimhood for themselves. That quite simply is the way they fight; shoot from a neighborhood or near a school or hospital. If you kill our soldiers, or better still, our civilians, that's a victory.

Hamas Terror Tunnel

If we return fire and kill one of their civilians, however, that's the sweetest victory of all, and part of the world buys it, and in so doing, assures that there will be more babies to hide behind in order to create more scenes of dead children and wailing mothers. In that way they are not terrorists in the eyes of many well intentioned people in the west. They are a " Resistance" movement.

Robot used to evaluate terror tunnel

[. . .]
And how do you drag Israel into a war it will do anything to avoid? Simple again, kidnap And murder three school boys on their way home from school. Amazingly, and certainly to their disappointment, Israel didn't take the bait. Not one shot was fired into Gaza. Instead Israel searched frantically for the boys and rounded up every Hamas operative it could find in the West Bank.

Hamas Terror Tunnel

When the kidnapping and murder of three boys didn't get a response, Hamas began its rocket attacks, and still Israel refrained from anything but the mildest response, bombing empty Hamas training camps and saying calm would be answered with calm. So Hamas ratcheted up the rocket attacks until Israel had to respond with an aerial campaign.

Explosives Built Into Walls of UN Schools in Gaza

[From article]
New details have emerged about the booby-trapped clinic explosion that killed three IDF Maglan unit soldiers in Gaza earlier this week - Sergeant First Class Matan Gottlieb, 21, from Rishon LeZion; Sergeant First Class Omar Chai, 21, from Savion; and Sergeant First Class Guy Algranati, 20, of Tel Aviv, hy"d.
Over eighty kilograms of explosives were built into the UN-funded hospital's walls themselves, it was cleared for publication Thursday - revealing that the clinic itself was built to mask, and perform, potential acts of terror on the IDF.
Moreover, the clinic was built over tens of terror tunnels, according to the report.
The UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency) has yet to respond to the revelations, and has still not responded to the deaths of the Israeli soldiers Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Hamas and Islamic Jihad rocket arsenals were found in a UNRWA school for the third time this month.
[. . .]

The UN agency also immediately blamed Israel for a strike on Gaza’s Shifa hospital, resulting in the deaths of over a dozen Gazans. It was later revealed that in all likelihood, a misfired Hamas Fajr-5 Iranian-made 100 kg warhead destined for Israel had struck the hospital.

Hamas Distributes Terrorism Training Manuals In Gaza

[From article]
Hamas has been disseminating to its followers in the Gaza Strip a detailed terrorism training manual that teaches would-be bombers how to make explosives and conceal them in household items such as televisions, according to documents seized by the Israeli military during recent raids.
Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers discovered the handbook on the ground in the Gaza Strip as they conducted raids of homes and other facilities used by Hamas to plan its terror activities.
Hamas’ terrorism manuals instruct readers on how to build homemade explosive devices and how to set them to explode in unlikely places.

Turkey Sends Ball Bearings, Cement to Gaza; Humanitarian Aid

[From article]
Terrorists in Gaza regularly use ball-bearings to maximize the lethality of locally-made, short-range Qassam rockets. Unlike other, more powerful long-range rockets and military-grade mortar shells smuggled into Gaza from state-sponsors such as Iran, Qassam rockets have a relatively small warhead. But while the explosion itself may be relatively "small", the rockets are also packed with shrapnel - including nails, razors and, most commonly, ball-bearings - which are scattered throughout a relatively wide radius upon impact, maiming or killing anyone in the vicinity.

The co-opting of hundreds of tons of concrete supplies by Hamas to build its underground tunnel network, used to store and transport weapons as well as carry out attacks inside Israel, has also been well-documented.

Cease Fires Cause More Deaths

[From article]
The Middle East must lead the world in cease-fires. If cease-fires were the road to peace, the Middle East would easily be the most peaceful place on the planet.
"Cease-fire" and "negotiations" are magic words to "the international community." But just what do cease-fires actually accomplish?
In the short run, they save some lives. But in the long run they cost far more lives, by lowering the cost of aggression.
At one time, launching a military attack on another nation risked not only retaliation but annihilation. When Carthage attacked Rome, that was the end of Carthage.
[. . .]
If you want to minimize civilian casualties, then minimize the dangers of war, by no longer coming to the rescue of those who start wars.
Israel was attacked, not only by vast numbers of rockets but was also invaded -- underground -- by mazes of tunnels.
[. . .]
Those who say that we can contain a nuclear Iran, as we contained a nuclear Soviet Union, are acting as if they are discussing abstract people in an abstract world. Whatever the Soviets were, they were not suicidal fanatics, ready to see their own cities destroyed in order to destroy ours.
[. . .]
Even if the Israelis were all saints -- and sainthood is not common in any branch of the human race -- the cold fact is that they are far more advanced than their neighbors, and groups that cannot tolerate even subordinate Christian minorities can hardly be expected to tolerate an independent, and more advanced, Jewish state that is a daily rebuke to their egos.

Propaganda Efforts in Middle East Need Scrutiny

[From article]
Alas, though the world’s largest per-capita recipient of foreign aid, Gaza didn’t become Canada-on-the-Mediterranean. After destroying the greenhouses and violently overthrowing the Palestinian Authority government, Hamas diverted resources and exploited cease-fires to build a vast military infrastructure — amid civilians and even U.N. facilities — from which to terrorize Israelis.
Hamas knows its most lethal weapon is retaliation-caused devastation, which is why its “dead-baby strategy” works. But critics accusing Israel of committing genocide in Gaza are not only libelous — they ignore Hamas’ disproportionate immorality reflected in its eagerness to kill its own citizens, never mind authentic genocides such as Syria’s and Darfur’s.
Consider these moral inequities: Israel uses missile defenses to protect civilians while Hamas uses civilians to protect missiles, war is Israel’s last resort but Hamas’ first, and Israel undertakes unprecedented efforts to forewarn innocents in attack zones while Hamas urges (and often compels) innocents to become propaganda-aiding victims.

Israel Increases Attacks

[From article]
Israel on Tuesday unleashed its heaviest bombardment in a 3-week-old war against Hamas, striking symbols of the militant group’s control in Gaza and firing tank shells that Palestinian officials said shut down the strip’s only power plant.
Thick black smoke from the plant’s burning fuel tank rose for hours. The station’s shutdown further disrupted the supply of electricity and water to the 1.7 million people packed into the narrow Palestinian coastal territory.

Destroying such tunnels was the stated goal of Israel’s ground invasion of Gaza, which began July 17. Secret Hamas Command Bunker In Basement of Hospital

[From article]
The idea that one of Hamas’ main command bunkers is located beneath Shifa Hospital in Gaza City is one of the worst-kept secrets of the Gaza war. So why aren’t reporters in Gaza ferreting it out? The precise location of a large underground bunker equipped with sophisticated communications equipment and housing some part of the leadership of a major terrorist organization beneath a major hospital would seem to qualify as a world-class scoop—the kind that might merit a Pulitzer, or at least a Polk.
So why isn’t the fact that Hamas uses Shifa Hospital as a command post making headlines? In part, it’s because the location is so un-secret that Hamas regularly meets with reporters there. On July 15, for example, William Booth of the Washington Post wrote that the hospital “has become a de facto headquarters for Hamas leaders, who can be seen in the hallways and offices.” Back in 2006, PBS even aired a documentary showing how gunmen roam the halls of the hospital, intimidate the staff, and deny them access to protected locations within the building—where the camera crew was obviously prohibited from filming. Yet the confirmation that Hamas is using Gaza City’s biggest hospital as its de facto headquarters was made in the last sentence of the eighth paragraph of Booth’s story—which would appear to be the kind of rookie mistake that is known in journalistic parlance as “burying the lede.”
[. . .]
he’s an experienced foreign reporter, which means that he buried the lede on purpose.
[. . .]
The Israelis are so sure about the location of the Hamas bunker, however, not because they are trying to score propaganda points, or because it has been repeatedly mentioned in passing by Western reporters—but because they built it. Back in 1983, when Israel still ruled Gaza, they built a secure underground operating room and tunnel network beneath Shifa hospital—which is one among several reasons why Israeli security sources are so sure that there is a main Hamas command bunker in or around the large cement basement beneath the area of Building 2 of the Hospital, which reporters are obviously prohibited from entering.
[. . .]
What Hamas wants is for reporters to use very different pictures from Shifa—namely, photos of Palestinians killed and wounded by Israelis, which make Palestinians look like innocent victims of wanton Israeli brutality.
[. . .]
Reporters who bravely or foolishly violate Hamas’ rules even on their social media accounts can be seen to repent with such alacrity that it’s not difficult to imagine how scared and dependent they are. Nick Casey of the Wall Street Journal, for example, tweeted that “You have to wonder w the shelling how patients at Shifa hospital feel as Hamas uses it as a safe place to see media.” Casey then quickly deleted his tweet, which didn’t save him from being put on a list of journalists who “lie/fabricate info for Israel” and “must be sued” – a threat which is surely the least of Casey’s fears. Last week, French-Palestinian journalist Radjaa Abu Dagg was summoned to Shifa by Hamas and interrogated. He wrote about the experience of “attempted intimidation” for Liberation—and then quickly had the paper take down the article.
[. . .]
He or she might also decide that reporting only the news that Hamas deems fit to print from Shifa Hospital isn’t actually reporting at all: It’s propaganda.
