Goldman Sachs, Prime Minister of Malaysia, Wealthy New York Socialite Targets of Justise Department Money Laundering Scheme

Jho Low and Alicia Keys attend a charity event in 2013.
Photo: AP[From article]

He arrived from out of nowhere in 2009, a mysterious, geeky 28-year-old dropping ridiculous amounts of money all over the city.
When Lindsay Lohan was celebrating her 23rd birthday at 1Oak, he sent 23 bottles of Cristal to her table. He spent $160,000 on bottle service one evening at Chelsea hot spot Avenue and once flew eight waitresses from Greenwich Village club Pink Elephant to an afterparty — in Malaysia.
Yet no one knew who this man, Low Taek Jho — otherwise known as Jho Low — was, or where he got his money.
[. . .]
The intrigue only deepened over the next few years, as Low collected a staggering amount of luxury real estate and famous artwork. He spent $30.55 million for an apartment in the Time Warner Center, as well as $23.98 million for a condo at the Park Laurel.
He bought Monets, Basquiats, Rothkos. He is widely thought to be the person who bought Picasso’s “Women of Algiers” last May for $141 million at auction — the most expensive painting ever purchased. He made the ARTnews list of the world’s 200 top private collectors.
Now the mystery of Jho Low may have finally been solved, thanks to a scandal that threatens the government of Malaysia and Wall Street titan Goldman Sachs.
[. . .]
Federal investigators are probing what could end up being “one of the largest money-laundering frauds in the world,” a source told The Post.
Rich history
Jho Low certainly is well connected. The son of a rich Malaysian businessman, he attended the Wharton School and became a financial consultant. One of his clients was Terengganu, an oil-rich sultanate of Malaysia, which in 2008 set up a sovereign wealth fund called TIA.
One of Low’s friends from boarding school in London was Riza Aziz. In April 2009, Aziz’s stepfather, Najib Razak, became prime minister of Malaysia.
[. . .]
Then, last year, it all started to fall apart. First, the fund missed a payment on the $11 billion it owed to creditors. Then, in July, the Wall Street Journal reported that about $681 million from 1MDB ended up in the prime minister’s private bank account. Razak denied the money came from 1MDB.
There were calls for Razak’s resignation, which he has ignored, as Malaysian officials and the US Justice Department — along with Switzerland, Singapore and Hong Kong — have launched investigations into possible corruption.

Gentlemen Yelling "ISIS, ISIS" Beat NYC Man Walking With Girl

[From article]
New York City police were investigating on Sunday an assault on a man who was pummeled by suspects shouting "ISIS, ISIS," leaving him with bruises on his head and face, authorities said.
The 43-year-old man was attacked while walking with a nine-year-old girl in the Bronx around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, according to the New York City Police Department.
He was punched several times in the head, knocked down and kicked, police said. The victim, whose name was not given, was treated for injuries at a hospital and released.

He had been wearing a shalwar kameez, a traditional South Asian outfit featuring a long tunic, the New York Times reported.

The attack comes amid increasing anxiety in the United States over the threat posed by Islamic State, also known as ISIS, which has claimed responsibility for militant attacks around the world.

Asian American Students Held Back By Misguided Priorities

[From article]
This is a disturbing article in the New York Post that chronicles the story of achievement by Asian-American students – and the policies adopted by school districts across the couintry to limit their advancement.
The reason for the success of Asian-American kids is the total committment and encouragement by their parents to their education. But other parents believe that their kids are at a disadvantage because they don't take the time or make the same effort as Asian parents. So school districts are now taking a "holistic" approach that keeps Asian kids down.
Here in New York City, Asian-Americans make up 13 percent of students, yet they win more than half of the coveted places each year at the city’s selective public high schools, such as Bronx Science and Stuyvesant.
What’s at play here? It’s not a difference in IQ; it’s parenting. That’s confirmed by a recent study by sociologists from City University of New York and the University of Michigan, which showed that parental oversight enabled Asian-American students to far outperform the others.
[. . .]
That formula is under fire at the West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District in New Jersey. The district, which is 65 percent Asian, routinely produces seniors with perfect SAT scores, admissions to MIT and top prizes in international science competitions.
But many non-Asian parents are up in arms, complaining there’s too much pressure and their kids can’t compete. In response, this fall Superintendent David Aderhold apologized that school had become a “perpetual achievement machine.” Heaven forbid!
Aderhold canceled accelerated and enriched math courses for fourth and fifth grades, which were 90 percent Asian, and eliminated midterms and finals in high school.
Using a word that already strikes terror in the hearts of Asian parents, he said schools had to take a “holistic” approach. That’s the same euphemism Harvard uses to limit the number of Asians accepted and favor non-Asians.
[. . .]
Affirmative action programs at colleges already limits the number of Asians who can attend the best schools. Now high schools, under pressure from parents, want to limit the number of high-achieving Asian kids who enroll in the best schools and the toughest courses.
What's up with that? Are the parents of kids of other races lazy, or don't they love their kids as much? That's nonsense for the most part, although some parents probably fit that description. The key is a culture that celebrates achievement. I don't think you'll find too many "Participation Trophies" being handed out in Japan or China. In those countries, either you achieve or you're left behind.
The competition just to get into college in those two countries is far more cutthroat than in the U.S. The question is, rather than dumbing down our educational system, why not emulate Asian parents? The answer is that secondary education – except for some sports – has been trying to eliminate the very idea of competition, because it is believed that losing marks a student for life and leads to low self-esteem and other problems.

Multi Billion Dollar Scandal in Malaysia

[From article]
[Wall Street Journal]
It is a story of political intrigue, backroom politics and billions of dollars in missing money. At the center of it all is Prime Minister Najib Razak, who founded 1MDB. A Malaysian government probe found that nearly $700 million moved through banks, agencies and companies linked to 1MDB before being deposited into Mr. Najib’s alleged private bank accounts ahead of a close election. The source of the money is unclear, though in August, Malaysia’s anticorruption body said the funds were a donation from the Middle East. The donor wasn’t specified.
[. . .]
The context is important here. Malaysia has a diverse population, with Muslim ethnic Malays in a smallish majority, but with a substantial minority of infidel Chinese and Indians. The Malays insist that the country is officially Islamic, and resent strongly the economic success of the minorities, so much so that affirmative action with explicit quotas has been practiced for many years.

Updated: Asian Groups Sue Harvard University For Discrimination; Case Dismissed

Posted May 16, 2015 5:01 PM ET; Last updated July 8, 2015 8:18 PM

[From article]
The U.S. Department of Education has dismissed a complaint filed against Harvard this spring by 64 Asian-American groups accusing the University of discriminating based on race in its admissions practices.
The complaint, filed in May, accused the University of unfairly denying admission to highly qualified Asian-American students while admitting similar applicants of other races. Complainants called for an in-depth investigation of Harvard’s use of race in its admissions processes.
The complaint was the most recent public challenge to the College’s race-based affirmative action policies, which were repeatedly under fire this past academic year but administrators argue are crucial to supporting campus diversity. The Department of Education decided to dismiss the complaint, according to a statement, because it is similar to an ongoing and separate federal lawsuit filed against Harvard.

Lawyers representing Harvard filed a motion on Monday to delay a lawsuit that alleges that the University’s admissions processes discriminate based on race until the U.S. Supreme Court reviews Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin, another affirmative action case, a second time next term.
University spokesperson Jeff Neal wrote in a statement that the case Harvard faces “deals with the same fundamental issues” as the Fisher case, which involves a white woman who argues that the University of Texas’s consideration of race in admissions decisions is in violation of the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
The Supreme Court first heard the case in 2013 and sent the case back to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, which upheld the University of Texas’s admissions process. In June, the Supreme Court decided to hear the case for the second time.
The lawsuit against Harvard, filed in November by an anti-affirmative action group, accuses Harvard of “employing racially and ethnically discriminatory policies” against Asian-American applicants.
Both lawsuits threaten race-based affirmative action policies that many universities, including Harvard, argue are important to supporting campus diversity. They are backed by the same person, Edward Blum, the director of the group Project on Fair Representation, which opposes race-based affirmative action.

"We want to eliminate discrimination of Asian Americans, and we want procedural justice for all racial groups," Yukong Zhao, one of the chief organizers and a guest columnist with the Orlando Sentinel, told NBC News. "All racial groups should be treated equal."
The complaint, which Zhao said has the support of a number of Chinese, Korean, Indian and Pakistani-American groups, asks that the United States Department of Justice and the United States Department of Education require that Harvard "immediately cease and desist from using racial quota or racial balancing" to admit students and "ensure that Harvard and other ivy league schools will never again discriminate against Asian-Americans or applicants of any other races."
[. . .]
In a written statement, Harvard University General Counsel Robert Iuliano said that Harvard College has a strong track-record of both recruiting and admitting Asian Americans to its school, with the percentage of admitted Asian Americans increasing from 17.6 percent to 21 percent in the last decade.

Refugees Heavily Dependent on Taxpayer Funded Assistance

[From article]
Refugees from Africa and the Middle East were the heaviest users of cash assistance at 61.9 percent and 68.3 percent respectively. Latin American refugees only used cash assistance at a rate of 8.1 percent and South Asia used about 42.7 percent. Data for Europe and the former Soviet Union was not available.
The use of food stamps — or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) — also varied with 88.9 percent of refugees from Africa, 91.4 percent of Middle Eastern refugees, the Middle East, 72.9 percent of South Asia, and 36.7 percent of Latin American refugees using the benefit.
Overall, according to the report just 50 percent of refugee households in the five year window were self-sufficient.

Updated: Harvard University Charged With Admissions Discrimination

Posted November 18, 2014 9:04 PM ET; Last updated March 11, 2015 8:33 PM ET

[From article]
The legal defense group Project on Fair Representation filed the suit against the University last November after soliciting rejected applicants as plaintiffs on its site, “Harvard Not Fair.” Edward Blum, the director of POFR, alleges that Harvard racially balances its incoming classes. He said the University sets “target percentages” for underrepresented minorities and illegal quotas on students of Asian descent.

“It is especially disconcerting that public data shows that Harvard has purposefully limited the percentage of Asian-American freshman it admits,” Blum wrote in a press release. “In fact, the number of Asian-Americans Harvard admits today is lower than it was 20-years ago, even though the number of highly qualified Asian-American applicants to Harvard has nearly doubled.”
[. . .]
University General Counsel Robert W. Iuliano ’83 wrote in a statement that the University’s admissions policies are “fully compliant” with the law.

Ebola Czar Advocates Reducing Population

[From article]
Klain says he wants to “make the world work for everyone" and believes too many people, especially on continents like Asia and Africa, are having a negative impact on the planet’s ecosystem. Medina concurs. The former whaling Commissioner says the continued extraction of oil and fish is unsustainable unless we learn how to stop depleting the earth’s resources. The couple, who live in a $1.8 million home in Chevy Chase, warn us that the outlook for the rest of mankind is dismal if we do not take overpopulation and dwindling food supplies seriously.
[. . .]
Obama’s appointment of a man with no medical expertise had pundits stumped, but it makes a tad more sense now. As one of the global elites obsessed with overpopulation, an outbreak of a deadly disease in West Africa is a perfect vehicle for Klain. He can now push an agenda that has occupied the ruling class for over a century. Prince Philip once remarked, “If I were reincarnated I would wish to be returned to earth as a killer virus to lower human population levels.” Is Klain set to morph into our first official “population control czar.”

Bride Kidnapping Is Cultural Practice

Even though bride kidnapping is a widely accepted custom in Kazakhstan, the bride in “Stealing the Bride” clearly does not want any part of the tradition.
Photo: Europics
[From article]
But instead of a blushing bride-to-be enjoying her big day, the shocking video shows a frightened girl being seized from her home and forced into marrying someone against her will.
Forcibly seizing a woman and marrying her is very common in Kazakhstan, according to CEN.
[. . .]
Once she arrives, the girls in his family will dress the kidnapped bride in a special neckerchief called an Oramal — something Kazakh women must accept to show their “consent” to marriage.
The process of accepting this garment can often take days of being locked up, but money almost always plays a role in saying yes.
“Often the families of the victims agree because the groom pays them a lot of money,”

Nationalism Yielding to Tribalism

Not discussed is the breakup of the United States, which has no dominant majority ethnic group, except for those areas where Muslims have congregated, e.g., Dearborn Michigan. Conor Cruise O'Brien explained that if the American federal government becomes dysfunctional, there will be chaos in the USA because there is no dominant majority to keep order under a unified culture. Demands by minorities for special privileges in the USA is an example of propaganda succeeding over facts. White people have been a minority in the world for many years enjoying only 16 percent of the world population. As Middle Easterners and Africans move into Europe white people will be a small minority subjected to the will of the non white majority who promised severe treatment for their white oppressors.

[From article]
The decomposition of the nations of Old Europe is the triumph of tribalism over transnationalism. The heart has reasons that the mind knows not, said Pascal. And the wild heart is winning.
The call of blood, history, faith, culture and memory is winning the struggle against Economism, the Western materialist ideology that holds that the desire for money and things is what ultimately motivates mankind.
Economics uber alles.
[. . .]
Yet it is not only in Scotland where peoples are deciding that what separates them is more important than what unites them.
Secessionism is ablaze all over the world.
[. . .]
The Syria and Iraq we have known will never be the same again, as the Shia-Sunni divide deepens and the Kurds of Iraq, Turkey, Syria and Iran come together.
In this century, we have seen Ethiopia and Sudan break in two, and now South Sudan hosts a tribal-civil war between Dinka and Nuer.
[. . .]
In Britain, France, Holland, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary and most of the countries of Europe, populist parties have arisen to liberate their nations from what they see as the soft dictatorship of the EU.
[. . .]
What assures the growth of these parties is what engendered them -- mass immigration from the Third World and the attendant rise in crime, Islamism and social disorder.
And what is there to halt the waves of immigration in boats and rafts from across the Mediterranean? Nothing. Out of a Middle East descending into chaos will come millions of Arab and Muslim refugees.
The African continent, which had 1.2 billion people in 2013, will have 2.3 billion in 2050, and 4.2 billion by century's end.
Hundreds of millions of these African folks will be fleeing these lands to occupy the empty places left by the depopulating nations of Europe, not one of whom has a fertility rate to ensure that its native people survive.

Genghis Kahn Revealed, Book Review

[From Book Review]
As a byword for barbarity, Genghis Khan has come down to us 800 years later as the cruellest conqueror of all time. We preserve his name to compare the perpetrators of genocide today to him.
Is this tradition justified? That is what a new biographer should tell us and this one, John Man, has every qualification. He even speaks Mongol and makes Mongolia his stamping ground. He has written a very lively and enjoyable book on a very complex and baffling story.
[. . .]
When they reached a fortified city their strategy was to surround it, starve it and invite its leaders to surrender or be annihilated. Those that refused were slaughtered to the last man, woman or child, but the same thing might easily happen to those which capitulated.
[. . .]
Merv, an oasis city of mosques and mansions. Its ten libraries contained 150,000 volumes, the greatest collection in Central Asia. The Mongols entered the city and after separating 400 craftsmen and a crowd of children to act as slaves, drove the remaining population on to the plain.
‘Then,’ writes Man, ‘the killing started. The place was ransacked, the buildings mined, the books burned or buried.
[. . .]
But not before having told his leading captives: ‘I am the punishment of God. If you had not committed great sins, God would not have sent me as your punishment’.
[. . .]
He allowed toleration of all religions — perhaps because he didn’t have much of one himself, except as a mandate for conquest. He allowed women to play a more leading role than other dictators and he employed anyone of talent, irrespective of where they came from.
But he built nothing. He left no palaces, no writings, no philosophy, nothing but territories that owed allegiance to him.

The Man Made Of Wax Flew Too High

[From article]
In short, our Icarus-in-Chief, without much foreign-policy experience but with youthful zeal and good intentions, soared far too high for his flimsy waxen wings. Now they are melting, and as the American commander-in-chief careens back to earth, lots of those below are wondering what will come next. Still, there is a lot of irony as Obama freefalls to earth.
[. . .]
Then came the waxen Obama soaring on hope and change, the president who would remake the world along the lines envisioned in a college faculty lounge or a Chicago organizing session. Obama was not a Buchananite isolationist who would be easy for Europeans to caricature. Rather, he is a postmodern, postracial progressive, who deeply felt either that traditional U.S. alliances were not worth the commitment, or that the U.S. was properly moving away from its European heritage and thus without any need for special trans-Atlantic relationships, or that an internationally engaged America came at the expense of dollars better spent on redistributive entitlements at home — or all three and more still.
The result is that the Europeans are increasingly bewildered if not a little anxious. They cannot reduce Obama, a man of the Left, to a caricatured Texan who often misunderstands the world, because Obama is an Ivy Leaguer who has never yet understood it.
[. . .]
Obama is not so much patient as uninterested. [. . .], Europe cannot play Athens when there is no longer a Rome to back it up. The result is a sort of sad update of Stalin’s thuggish but instructive rhetorical question to French Foreign Minister Pierre Laval when the latter in 1935 suggested that the Soviets reach out to the Catholic hierarchy in order to thwart Hitler: “The Pope? How many divisions has he got?”
[. . .]
when Japan and the U.S. uncouple, then China will do what it pleases to Japan — for no other reason than, to paraphrase Dirty Harry, it likes to.
[. . .]
Libya, Syria, Egypt, and the general regional turmoil suggest instead that tribalism, religious intolerance, misogyny, anti-Semitism, and authoritarianism were mostly indigenous and did not need British colonists, Russian generals, American oil men, or the Bush family to activate them. To paraphrase Ward Churchill, with the American recessional from the region, the long-awaited Middle East chickens are coming home to roost.
The nosedive of the melting Obama will leave the world a more dangerous place, but also serve as another mythological reminder of why the pretentious without real wings should not try to fly.
