US Attorney, District Attorney Investigate Suspicious Brooklyn Library Deal By Mayor Of New York

The $52 million deal to redevelop the Brooklyn Heights library into a luxury condo tower, which City Hall awarded to a de Blasio pal who offered less money for the city-owned land than two other bidders, has attracted the attention of federal and city prosecutors, The Post has learned.
The joint probe comes three months after The Post revealed the sweetheart scheme and marks the seventh pay-to-play scandal engulfing the de Blasio administration.
Mayor de Blasio’s latest imbroglio has investigators questioning why the city chose Hudson Cos. to buy the Brooklyn Public Library branch on Clinton Street and build a 36-story condo on top of it despite submitting a bid that was $6 million less than a competitor’s.
The offices of US Attorney Preet Bharara and Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance sent subpoenas to several of the 14 developers that bid on the project, sources familiar with the investigation said.
One of the subpoenas went to Toll Brothers President David Von Spreckelsen, a source said. Toll Brothers offered $1 million more than Hudson, the sources said.
Hudson President David Kramer is “one of many people being looked at” but has not been subpoenaed, the sources said.

Hoping to raise money to refurbish its system, the Brooklyn Public Library approached the city to draw up a request for proposals for the development of the site.
The city and library jointly released the RFP in June 2013.
The city Economic Development Corp. vetted the bids on behalf of the library.
Kramer proposed a 30-story residential skyscraper — with 114 units of affordable housing sited two miles away. The plan included space for the library on the ground floor and $40 million of the $52 million bid to spruce up other branches. He also planned to relocate the library to a space on Remsen Street in July 2016 for the four-year construction period.
At least two competing developers not only offered to pay the library more money, but several proposed to build affordable units on the site.
Brooklyn-based Second Development Services offered the library $6 million more than did Hudson and 117 affordable units.
One competing bidder described the process as rigged to benefit de Blasio’s friends.

A friend of the mayor for more than a decade, Kramer and his wife have given $9,125 to de Blasio’s political campaigns since 2007. De Blasio has refunded $6,325 of that money without giving an explanation on city campaign filings.
De Blasio kept another $4,850 that came from Hudson employees, records show.
Kramer and his project architect, Jonathan Marvel, also hosted fund-raisers for de Blasio’s mayoral campaign, including an October 2013 soirée for which Marvel invited the city’s biggest developers.
Six weeks after de Blasio was sworn in, Hudson coughed up $5,000 to the Campaign for One New York, a charity promoting the mayor’s agenda. Marvel Architects added $2,000 in June 2015.
Toll Brothers also has given CONY two $25,000 donations.

Fund Raising Lobbyist Appointed To Seek Money For Taxpayer Funded Public Library

Yes. Yes. Just what is needed, a fund raising lobbyist bureaucracy for a taxpayer funded public library. How could so many highly educated academic wannabes not recognize this essential need for so many years? Does somebody need a job? Will Susan Hartnett be required to register as a municipal lobbyist when the city council makes it mandatory? Will increased patron services include foot massages? Will food tasters offer chewing for patrons whose teeth are painful? Where will all of this increased government end? When there are no more private citizens and everyone works for and is owned by government?

This marks the first hire since the foundation formed in November 2015 with plans to champion and grow private financial support for the Cambridge Public Library.

Cambridge, MA Librarian Laments Excessive Testing of Third Graders

Local school officials suffer from two debilitating syndromes. One is the love of taxpayer funds. The other is obedience to authority and conformism. Only way to curb the education policies which continue to dumb down public school students is to eliminate the US Department of Education. An alternative is to elect and hire officials with spines, which is more difficult than the first solution. Do teacher unions play any role in these abuses?

Black Protesters at Dartmouth College Disrupt Library Threaten Studying Students

Protesters at Dartmouth University disrupted students studying in the library, reportedly directing profanity towards white students and physically pushing others.
In a critical editorial, the conservative Dartmouth Review listed some of the epithets hurled by the protesters: “Fuck you, you filthy white fucks!” “Fuck you and your comfort!” “Fuck you, you racist shits!”
In addition, the Review reports that some of protesters became physically violent: “Men and women alike were pushed and shoved by the group. ‘If we can’t have it, shut it down!’ they cried. Another woman was pinned to a wall by protesters who unleashed their insults, shouting ‘filthy white bitch!’ in her face.”
Campus Reform managed to obtain video showing the protesters walking through the library shouting as others try to study. One of the protesters can be seen flipping off the cameraman. Another gets in the face of those who are studying demanding they say that black lives matter.
One of the protesters posted online, saying they were ashamed of what the protest turned into. “After making a girl cry, a protester screamed ‘Fuck your white tears,'” he reports. “I was startled by the aggression from a small minority of students towards students in the library, many of whom were supporters of the movement.”

Living in the village of Chimayo, New Mexico, Linda Pedro became a pioneer in independent living for people with disabilities, and much more -- an advocate for disability rights, a fearless politician, an artist, and a leader who became the rock in her community.
Several decades ago, as a fledgling legal services attorney, Fred Woods represented Linda --who was paralyzed as the result of an auto accident -- in what started out as a custody case and ended up as a landmark in disabilities law. Now a documentary filmmaker and Cambridge resident, Woods started shooting a documentary about Pedro, La Casa Linda, almost seven years ago. "She was the most remarkable person I've ever known," said Woods.
“Linda died this past January at the age of 68. I'll remember her as generous friend who lived out her deepest values, never shied from the truth, and was a wonderful story teller," said Woods. “The film… is her story, told, for the most part, by Linda. It may change the way we think about disability, and about the traditions that define us as Americans.”
As a resident of her small village in northern New Mexico, Pedro immersed herself in her Hispanic heritage and in Native American ways to become a spiritual mentor and a political leader who challenged the corrupt local power structure. When drugs threatened to overwhelm her village she faced her greatest challenge as she turned to the community's oldest traditions to lead a campaign for renewal.
Woods has been an attorney, political consultant and film and video producer. Two of his television spots have won Best of Broadcasting awards from the New England Broadcasting Association and his short-form historical documentaries have been incorporated into exhibits by the National Park Service.
The first East Coast showing of La Casa Linda will be at the Cambridge Public Library, 449 Broadway on Saturday, November 7, at 2:00pm. This free event is sponsored by the Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities and the Boston Mayor’s Commission for Persons with Disabilities, as part of "Disability Reframed: A Community Film Series." Following the screening, there will be an audience discussion panel with the filmmaker and Robyn Powell, internationally recognized authority on the rights of parents with disabilities and their families. We hope to see you there.

Trading Cambridge MA Trees For Parking Cars, Medical Marijuana?

City of Cambridge, under direction of the committee for a new library, with oversight from the City Council and City Manager decided it was necessary for the new library to provide an underground parking garage. Unlike the Boston Public Library, the New York Public Library and the Brooklyn Public Library all of which do not provide parking, Cambridge had to have it. One result is that this huge tree growing in Joan Lorenz Park for many years suddenly lost its root system and was dying. Here are some of my images of the tree which is no longer on the lawn in front of the new main library.

This is the opening to get to the parking garage in case of emergency. It was why the tree was removed. No need for trees when you have enough parking spaces. More Cambridge City Council policy with contradictory and counterproductive effects in the name of good. Always in the name of good, and diversity. Don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. Better there should be violence than to hurt anyone's feelings. I mean, like, what if someone wanted to use the library but was offended if they had to walk to the library or take a bus or a taxi. Or like, I mean, like, you know, if they had to park on the street. How icky. I mean, you know, how hateful can you be? 

Will this new lawn space be used to grow medical marijuana? That way you know, like, I mean, people who need it will not have to go far. They can park in the library garage and get some quickly, without waiting for the dispensaries to open. Like, how awesome is that? Thanks City Council.

CAMBRIDGE, MA–Just as baseball season gets into full swing, Anthem Theatre Company presents Romeo VS. Juliet, a baseball rivalry-inspired vaudeville comedy version of Shakespeare’s classic, June 2015 at Joan Lorentz Park in Cambridge.

Adapted by Johnny Kinsman, Anthem’s Associate Artistic Director and beloved Boston DUKW-boat personality “Plucky Ruffles,” Romeo VS. Juliet strikes out the tragedy of the famed romance and pitches some olde tyme song and dance. Complete with Coach “Friar” Lawrence caught in a rundown of “Who’s on First” and the bat-crossed title duo falling in love on the pitcher’s mound, this summer romp will please audiences of all ages.

The play, with music sourced from baseball’s golden age, will be performed outdoors and FREE of charge to the public at beautiful Joan Lorentz Park (Broadway & Ellery St., Cambridge, MA 02138) on June 19-21 and June 26-28. While the world was watching the Academy Awards ceremony, the people of Mosul were watching a different show. They were horrified to see ISIS members burn the Mosul public library. Among the many thousands of books it housed, more than 8,000 rare old books and manuscripts were burned.
“ISIS militants bombed the Mosul Public Library. They used improvised explosive devices,” said Ghanim al-Ta'an, the director of the library. Notables in Mosul tried to persuade ISIS members to spare the library, but they failed.
The former assistant director of the library Qusai All Faraj said that the Mosul Public Library was established in 1921, the same year that saw the birth of the modern Iraq. Among its lost collectionswere manuscripts from the eighteenth century, Syriac books printed in Iraq's first printing house in the nineteenth century, books from the Ottoman era, Iraqi newspapers from the early twentieth century and some old antiques like an astrolabe and sand glass used by ancient Arabs. The library had hosted the personal libraries of more than 100 notable families from Mosul over the last century.
During the US led invasion of Iraq in 2003, the library was looted and destroyed by mobs. However, the people living nearby managed to save most of its collections and rich families bought back the stolen books and they were returned to the library, All Faraj added.
“900 years ago, the books of the Arab philosopher Averroes were collected before his eyes...and burned. One of his students started crying while witnessing the burning. Averroes told him... the ideas have wings...but I cry today over our situation,” said Rayan al-Hadidi, an activist and a blogger from Mosul. Al-Hadidi said that a state of anger and sorrow are dominating Mosul now. Even the library's website was suspended.
“What a pity! We used to go to the library in the 1970s. It was one of the greatest landmarks of Mosul. I still remember the special pieces of paper where the books’ names were listed alphabetically,” said Akil Kata who left Mosul to exile years ago.
On the same day the library was destroyed, ISIS abolished another old church in Mosul: the church of Mary the Virgin. The Mosul University Theater was burned as well, according to eyewitnesses. In al-Anbar province, Western Iraq, the ISIS campaign of burning books has managed to destroy 100,000 titles, according to local officials. Last December, ISIS burned Mosul University’s central library.

Someone comes along and convinces the person that the best way to make a meaningful life and make a statement is by killing a bunch of people and making everybody scared.

What we need to do is (have) a diverse group of adults of goodwill who find ways to educate kids and mentor kids so that they’re not drawn into things that they don’t want to be drawn to, so that they find ways to have a meaningful life of their own choosing that’s really productive and adds to our society.

It has to be a proactive, universally applied program that’s going to help kids to think for themselves, or to look for mentors to help them think about how to make a good life for themselves, and how to resist people who don’t care about them and want to pull them into something that’s going to be bad for them.

U.S District Court Magistrate Judge Patricia A. Sullivan has ordered Stephen M. Ardrey to be detained on charges of human trafficking in the case of missing Medfield teenager Brittany Thompson.
Ardrey, 30, of Springfield, Mo., was in the U.S. District Court in Providence today for an initial appearance following the safe return of Thompson, 17, who was reported missing on Monday. She and Ardrey were seen in Coventry, R.I. on Thursday around 10 a.m.

Here's one more thoughtful public spirited traveling man (police might call him a drifter) from Missouri. He took time from his busy schedule to visit the local Massachusetts library and lure a teenager to teach her as a volunteer how to disappear. No one was watching this gentle man. No police, no FBI informants, no crime families, no Communists, and no Harvard University campus cops. But in Cambridge MA, host city of Harvard University, MIT and Lesley University local police, Harvard University campus cops, FBI informants, Communists, local police take turns conducting relentless surveillance, harassment, ridicule, humiliation, character assassination, sleep disturbances, computer tampering, and other forms of love and compassion toward a 70-year-old white male who they all say is disabled. The same man was used by the FBI to fight organized crime for 15 years. They did not pay him one cent, but coordinated a campaign allowing five crime families to take turns attacking him for 22 years as retaliation. Much of this was conducted on property owned and operated by the President and Fellows of Harvard College, reportedly with the knowledge and consent of the highest levels of that august University. Massachusetts taxpayers fund the state's Human Services Industrial Complex (MA State Rep. Marie Parente's term) with $2 billion each year. They do not protect but exploit the people they are paid to assist. It is how they do things in Massachusetts as one prominent Harvard Law School lawyer told me.

She discussed her new book, The Behavior Code: Practical Strategies for Understanding and Teaching the Most Challenging Students. Rappaport described elaborate schemes to compensate for disruptive behavior in the classroom. She suggested ways for teachers to understand what students may lack and what causes problematic behavior. One parent explained that her child came to US schools from another culture and was thought to be unintelligent because of language and cultural differences. Is there a need for psychiatry to correct this? Another told of a young person new to this country who urinated in the classroom because she did not know how to ask to go to the bathroom. Again, is this a psychiatric issue?



Some questions include, "If teachers are focused on remedying what students lack, e.g., knowing how to behave in class, how can they teach traditional subjects to these students?" "What are psychiatrists doing in schools?" "If students are unable to behave properly how is that a matter for teachers to correct?" They spend too much time on discipline and not enough teaching basics.



"Does the focus on psychiatry in classrooms explain why US schools fail to educate students?" "Does the acceptability of pervasive failure indicate that the ruling class does not care if public school students learn anything?" "Do teachers unions' accumulation of power work contrary to teaching and learning?" Employers and colleges provide extensive remedial classes teaching young people what they failed to learn in secondary schools. Special education is a large profitable taxpayer funded business for the psychiatric industry. Is this an example of what passes for improving schools? More psychiatrists in public schools will only do more harm to the primary function of public schools. Psychiatry has its place but it is not in public schools.

Cambridge City Council policy order on public meetings and technology may merit reconsideration. The City Manager purchased new wireless microphones for the Planning Board Meetings at the Broadway Annex building.
The members of the Planning Board sometimes don't use them. In some cases they do not turn them on. In other cases they speak so low that even with the microphones you still cannot hear them. The PB volunteers are not trained properly in using the expensive equipment, SONY with each mic costing over $90 plus the transmitting amplifier.

Will having more expensive technology available be any different? When I used to video tape the meetings, allowed under the open meetings law, some of the PB members complained worried that what they said would be recorded. Some of the board and commission members do not want their actions available to be seen by too many people. One of them may understand what they are doing.

The Zoning Board hearings have no loud speakers even though all it takes is to ask the city electric department to set them up for the meetings. Citizens who attend them cannot hear what is said at the table. The discussion is recorded on audio tape for which it is very expensive to get a transcript.

The City has about 50 computers at the seven libraries for public use, and more at the Senior Center. None of them are Apple computers. I asked the previous chief reference librarian to get one Apple computer. He explained that maintenance of Apple computers is expensive. One other librarian explained that the PC is the city standard. There are a citizens who use Apple equipment and cannot use the public equipment to access some of their data.

When the City had an agreement with Cablevision one element was to make some of the city buildings where public meetings were held wired for broadcasting on the City cable station Channel 8. But that was never done. When the city transferred the license to Comcast that provision was ignored and maybe removed. If all city meetings were broadcast it would make the city's proceedings more accessible. But that may have to wait until there is a new more open minded city manager.

Woodward's False Persona

According to Len Colodny in his book, Silent Coup, Bob Woodward was a briefer for the Joint Chiefs of Staff before he became a journalist. He briefed Alexander Haig and denied he knew the General. When Woodward appeared at Harvard's School of Government to get an award I asked him during a public session why he denied those facts. He became upset and told me that I should get my client's name right. He thought I was a lawyer and that Robert Gettlin ( I called him Rich Gettlin) co-author of Silent Coup was my client. He did not answer the question. There were audible gasps from the audience who worshipped him. Woodward is part of the liberal media-government cabal which for the past 50 years uses propaganda as reporting. Nixon was hounded from office for allegations and for helping persons he thought were loyal to him. Non of the liberal media discuses the infiltration of the Nixon administration to embarrass him from within. Nixon was a threat to the Eastern liberal elites who ran the country since its beginning. Nixon was transferring wealth and political power from them to new interests in the South and Western parts of the country. Watergate was a retaking of power by the Eastern liberal elites.
