Concerned Citizen, Taxpayer, Voter Objects To Limited Candidate Names of City Plan Name Election

An Open Letter to the Cambridge Citywide Planners

Please rethink your undemocratic procedure for renaming the Cambridge Master Plan process and extend the voting deadline. The four tepid options you have offered do not reflect the unbounded creativity of the Cambridge citizenry and do disservice to the award-winning talents and renown accomplishments of our city's hardworking professional planning department.



As we have recently seen, Cambridge's unique Proportional Representation voting system allows the electorate to pick the excellent leaders we deserve in a much fairer manner than conventional winner-take-all methods.

Since you received 200 suggested names for the upcoming citywide planning process, why not provide a final ballot that lists all of these candidates, allows voters to rank-order their preferences, and lets them write-in other possibilities that you may have overlooked?

This approach would help to dispel rumors that the election has been rigged to ensure that "Envision Cambridge," a stale sobriquet that evokes the "Envision Porter Square" planning debacle of decades ago, is the predetermined selection of self-interested city planning officials who will enjoy a free junket visit to the upcoming "Envision America" event in Charlotte. North Carolina.



I have given this matter much thought, and I realize that the local PC police have properly demanded that the earlier "Cambridge Master Plan" designation be changed because of its sexist, racist, and fascist overtones. The term Master immediately evokes thoughts of our paternalistic society's ongoing subjugation of women. Surely a name such as the "The Cambridge Mistress Plan" or "Ms. and Mister Rossi's Neighborhood" is more appropriate for an inclusive community like Cambridge.

Instead of uttering "Master" and evoking the inequities of the medieval guild system, painful memories of slavery and brutality in American history, and degrading sadomasochistic sexual practices and forms of self-abuse that survive around the world to this day, how about substituting less inflammatory names, as, say, "The Cambridge Livin'-Wage-Is-Easy PLAN-tation," or "Cambridge Miracle Whip," or "Happy Ending Cambridge"?

And we certainly should not offend others by triggering thoughts of Hitler's "Master Race" policies when more appropriate names for our citywide comprehensive plan are readily available. How about "Triumph of the Willpower," "CamBridj Uber Call Lyft," or, my favorite, "Cambridge: The Final Solution"?



It's hard to accept that not one of the hundreds of suggested names I previously submitted made your final cut. I hope you will reconsider your decision, alter the online ballot to allow for multiple-preference selection, and open the naming process to individual write-in candidates such as those below.

Work Study Student Shoots Supervisor at NC Community College

A man accused of fatally shooting a Wayne Community College employee confessed to the crime during his first appearance in a Florida courtroom Tuesday.
Kenneth Morgan Stancil III, who is charged with murder in the Monday morning slaying of college print shop manager Ron Lane, told a judge in an obscenity-laden admission that he “ridded one last child molester from the Earth.” Stancil accused Lane of “messing” with a family member. [. . .] College officials said Stancil was a previous work-study student who reported to Lane. He was dismissed from the federally funded program at the beginning of March because of too many absences, college President Kay Albertson said.
[. . .] Investigators said Stancil, 20, carried a 12-gauge pump shotgun into the Wayne Learning Center shortly after 8 a.m. Monday, went to the third-floor print shop and fired a single shot, killing Lane, 44. He fled campus on a motorcycle, which a state trooper found abandoned in the median of Interstate 95 South in Lumberton later that morning.
Stancil was arrested about 1:20 a.m. Tuesday in Daytona Beach, Fla., after law enforcement officers found him sleeping on the beach, which is illegal.

We have to understand a concept called intergenerational transmission of trauma, and what that means basically is even if you didn’t have any traumatic thing happen to you, but your grandparents, parents, people in your family had enormous amounts of trauma, that will have an impact.

After graduation, after leaving Cambridge, that support fell away, and I think there was a real challenge to find a new community of support.

Someone comes along and convinces the person that the best way to make a meaningful life and make a statement is by killing a bunch of people and making everybody scared.

What we need to do is (have) a diverse group of adults of goodwill who find ways to educate kids and mentor kids so that they’re not drawn into things that they don’t want to be drawn to, so that they find ways to have a meaningful life of their own choosing that’s really productive and adds to our society.

It has to be a proactive, universally applied program that’s going to help kids to think for themselves, or to look for mentors to help them think about how to make a good life for themselves, and how to resist people who don’t care about them and want to pull them into something that’s going to be bad for them.

Cambridge City Council Demands More Community Involvement

Councilor McGovern wants developers to be required by law to meet with "the community." During previous years Harvard University's development representatives, usually PR flacks, would ask, "Who represents the community?" They wanted some reliable unchanging designees to be the representatives of the community. That was beyond those duly elected to represent the community. Are City Councilors no longer representing the community? Who do they represent? But also since Harvard University has ever changing representatives itself, I asked "Who represents Harvard University?" in the meetings to discuss development. Do university PR flacks have decision making authority for the President and Fellows of Harvard College?

Judge Suggests Incest May No Longer Be Taboo

Judge Garry Neilson, from the district court in the state of New South Wales, likened incest to homosexuality, which was once regarded as criminal and "unnatural" but is now widely accepted

He said incest was now only a crime because it may lead to abnormalities in offspring but this rationale was increasingly irrelevant because of the availability of contraception and abortion.

"A jury might find nothing untoward in the advance of a brother towards his sister once she had sexually matured, had sexual relationships with other men and was now 'available', not having [a] sexual partner," the judge said.

Suggested Project for Harvard Visionaries

Maybe someone can figure out a way to have Cambridge City Councilors serve the community without seeking extra compensation. "How to remove greedy politicians from government?" could be the project title. Harvard College grad and longest serving City Councilor Ken Reeves said “I don’t need to chair the council for free indefinitely, I’m happy to give over this responsibility.” Is this what altruism looks like today? City Councilors get $65,000/year plus a $35,000/year aide plus benefits, for effectively a part time job. Most Councilors have other jobs and businesses.

This writer is correct. In Cambridge there is no support for individuals by other individuals. The city is dominated by academics who are the most competitive humans on earth. They thrive and delight in another's suffering. Collectivism rules in Cambridge and other cities. If you are a member of a group of preferred victims you may get support. But if not you are ignored and the predators are free to devour. Look to the successes of the Amish and Mennonite communities. They support each other unlike the secular humanists in Cambridge.
