Reid identified the victim as Jefferson Heavner, 26, of Newton, N.C.
Heavner was in a passing truck and stopped when he saw Lee, of Claremont, N.C., needed help.
The situation took a dramatic turn when Lee allegedly became belligerent toward Heavner and several neighbors who came out of nearby homes.
“They thought he was drunk and said, ‘let’s just call the law and let them deal with it,’” Reid said.
At that point, Lee allegedly took out a gun and opened fire, the Observer reported.
Heavner was felled by a bullet and then shot “numerous times” as Lee stood over him, Reid told the paper.
Lee returned to his car after the shooting and refused to surrender to deputies. They called in a SWAT team with an armored vehicle.
“They saw he was passed out,” Reid told the paper.

A New York City woman has spoken out about the moment she was was saved by a 25-year-old man who was crushed to death on New Year's Eve moments after he pushed the woman out of a broken elevator.
Stephen Hewett-Brown, 25, shoved Erude Sanchez to safety and reportedly wished her a 'Happy New Year' after he saw the elevator had stalled and was about to fall down the shaft of the 26-story building on Manhattan's Lower East Side.
'The elevator was going up when it came to a halt on the third floor,' Sanchez, 43, told NY1 through a translator. 'At that moment, the elevator started to move and the man held the door so I was able to go out from there.'
'He asked a guy who was there for help and that guy tried to take him out,' she added.
But moments later Hewett-Brown, who was thought to be attending a party in the building, was killed as he got stuck between the stalled lift and a door around 11.30pm.
It is thought the lift started moving as he tried to make his own escape.

The New York Police Department said the victim was unconscious, suffering from severe body trauma, when officers arrived shortly after midnight. He later died at the hospital.
A police spokesman said he had no information on the exact circumstances of Hewett-Brown's death, but the department says no criminality is suspected.
Hewett-Brown is not believed to have lived at 131 Broome Street in Manhattan.
The city Buildings Department was investigating the accident. It came after a string of complaints and violation notices over the years about the Broome Street high-rise's three elevators, Buildings Department records show.

They indicate it was inspected as recently as September and that a violation notice concerning the up-and-down lights was unresolved as of Thursday.
'The elevators were a problem and needed to be fixed,' former Tenants Association President Dashia Imperiale told WABC-TV, saying the lifts sometimes lurch up and down. But another resident, Zin Halcomb, told the station he felt the building was well-maintained.
Messages left for the property manager weren't immediately returned Friday.
Meanwhile, a friend of the victim's, Ejiro Omenih, was absorbing the news of his death and the accounts of his life-saving actions.
'I feel that that alone shows his character,' Omenih told WABC-TV.
He said Hewlett-Brown was an aspiring musician who played piano and performed hip-hop and soul.

But it’s impossible to Skype without wi-fi, so they’re demanding faster service.

Montana Good Samaritans Shot Dead

The Park County Wyoming Sheriff's Office confirmed the suspect was taken into custody without incident around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday more than 150 miles away from the scene in Meeteetse, Wyo.
He was driving a silver 2006 Pontiac G6, which family members of the Shanes said belonged to the victims.
The suspect was first spotted by a Park County Sheriff’s Deputy driving southbound on Highway 120 at 11:49 a.m.
Because the suspect was considered armed and dangerous at the time, the deputy did not conduct a stop, and waited for backup from a trooper with the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
After following the suspect for 12 miles, he was stopped and taken into custody along County Road 3LE, which is commonly referred to as the Burlington cut across.

With assistance from the Big Horn County Sheriff's Office and the Montana Highway Patrol at the crime scene, the investigation will be lead by the FBI and Bureau of Indian Affairs.

The FBI confirmed that two people were killed and a third injured by gunfire in Pryor, a town of just over 600 people in southern Montana. A suspect was arrested hours later in Wyoming, FBI spokesman Todd Palmer said. Palmer could not say what led to the shooting and did not release details about the victims or gunman.
Bryce Hugs, of Pryor, told The Billings Gazette that his aunt, Tana Shane, drove by a man who had run out of gas just south of town. Shane picked up her husband, Jason, and daughter, Jora, and returned to help, Hugs said.
"(He) killed both of them and then shot the daughter," Hugs told the newspaper. "It grazed her in the head, and when she took off, (he) shot her in the back."

A man named Jesus Deniz was apprehended near Meeteetse, Wyoming, and was being held in "investigatory custody for another agency" in the Park County Detention Center, according to the Gazette.

It all started Wednesday afternoon when an elderly man in a pickup truck struck a motorcycle on Whiting Street in Lynn.
“The driver of the pickup truck got out to check on the well-being of the motorcyclist, and the motorcyclist attacked him,” Lynn Police Lt. Rick Donnelly said.
That’s when Lebaron Felings, sitting on a nearby stoop, saw the older man being punched and decided to intervene.
The motorcyclist fled, vowing to get Feling’s back. Five or six minutes later he came back and shot him, hitting Felings once in the stomach.
Felings was hospitalized but is expected to be OK.

Perhaps the fact that dramatic surveillance video showed the victim being driven away while clinging to the hood of her car and the hero bystander pursuing with his gun drawn had something to do with it. And Atlanta, after all, is in the South, where the Second Amendment is especially popular. Such incidents are far less likely to occur in places like New York and Chicago, with draconian gun control laws, so television stations in those cities won’t have as many opportunities to run stories about crimes being foiled by gun owners.

SMYRNA, GA (WXIA) -- An attempted carjacking was thwarted by a bystander Friday afternoon at a car wash at the corner of South Cobb Drive at Highlands Parkway.
Police said it happened at about 3:30 p.m. at the Fast Track Car Wash. Smyrna Police Officer C.D. Graeff says a man in his 50s approached a woman washing her car at the car wash, pulling a gun and attempted to take her car.
Graeff says that a witness, seeing what was happening, pulled out his own gun and shot the suspect in the shoulder.
A red minivan pulled up, Graeff said, and drove off with the suspect. The minivan was last seen headed onto Interstate 285, which is about three blocks away from the car wash.
Graeff said at this point, there is not an active search for the suspect, and that investigators hope the suspect shows up at a local hospital.
No other injuries were reported.

Lauren A. Mohr, 34, stopped to assist two motorists and fell off a concrete wall and then off a bridge, they said. She dropped about 40 feet, state police said, calling Mohr a good Samaritan.

Mohr was a temporary worker in the undergraduate admissions office of Quinnipiac University, according to university spokesman John Morgan.
"She comes in during our busy season," he said.
She was the stepdaughter of Joan Isaac Mohr, vice president for Admissions and Financial Aid.
A graduate of Mark T. Sheehan High School in Wallingford, Mohr earned her associates degree from Middlesex Community College, Morgan said. She planned to study social work at Southern Connecticut State University in the fall.
At the time of the accident, she was returning from her job at Barcelona Restaurant and Wine Bar, Joan Mohr told Morgan.

An 18-year-old suspect, identified only as Sanel M from the Sandzak region of south-west Serbia, is in police custody and is said to have admitted attacking Albayrak.
The video, published on the Bild website, shows the attacker getting out of his car and approaching Ms Albayrak and her friends.
A man repeatedly tries to stand between the attacker and Ms Albayrak, but the attacker manages to strike her on the head.
The video shows her falling to the ground and hitting her head, before the attacker flees the scene.

The 31-year-old victim was walking in Clinton Hill at about 5 a.m. on Aug. 31 when Nicholas Isaac, 17, allegedly threatened to shoot her if she didn’t comply and then raped her before fleeing with her pocketbook, prosecutors said.
The woman was walking home along Gates Avenue from neighborhood bar One Last Shag, law enforcement sources have said.
The stunned woman approached Daquan Jackson, 20, a half-block away on Irving Place at about 6 a.m. and tried to explain what had just happened to her as she asked for help, prosecutors said at Jackson’s Brooklyn criminal court arraignment.
“I’m going to do the same thing to you,” was his venal response, assistant district attorney Wilfredo Cotto said in court.
“You are going to s— my d— or I am going to shoot you, I have a gun,” Jackson then said, according to court papers.

Expecting Massachusetts civilians to assist victims of crime is wishful thinking. Boston residents commonly ignore trouble unless it is their own. Bay State limousine liberals prefer unarmed citizens, who remain vulnerable to crime. Police will respond for members of high profile groups -- black Americans, women, homosexuals, illegal aliens, and Muslims. White heterosexual men, not so much. The unidentified woman should be grateful that the police actually arrested this guy.
