White House Provides Taxpayer Funds For Jobs For Migrant Youth

[From article]
The Obama administration wants to make sure Utica, New York’s young refugees aren’t without a job, so he’s spending millions to make sure it doesn’t happen.
“Access to a job in the summer and beyond can make all the difference to a young person – especially those who don’t have access to many resources and opportunities,” President Obama said of his new Summer Opportunity Project.
The project spends a total of $21 million on a variety of programs in 11 communities nationwide with the focus of helping young people find summer work, and permanent part-time jobs, the White House and U.S. Department of Labor announced Monday.
At least $2 million of the total will be set aside to help 400 refugee students in Utica, New York get to work through the New Americans Career Pathways Project, the Utica Observer-Dispatch reports.
“The New Americans Career Pathways project will provide in-school youth with summer jobs and academic support for 400 students in the refugee populations of Utica, NY,” according to a White House Fact Sheet. “The students will receive summer job work experience and academic tutoring in English and Math, and support in finding part-time jobs.”
[. . .]
Nearly everyone who discussed the Utica program in the Syracuse.com comments was appalled that the president seems to be prioritizing illegal immigrants over U.S. citizens for summer jobs in their region.
“Most divisive president ever adds to the legacy,” Dawn Of A New Day posted.
“This is absurd!” greats wrote. “Yes people, vote for Hillary. She wants this too. To heck with American youth. Let’s employ refugees who can’t even speak English! Go Trump! Stand up for America!”
“So legal Americans are not worthy of summer jobs?” RockwellSprings questioned. “Can’t wait for November.”
“What about OUR kids?” bastracker wrote. “I am thoroughly disgusted.”

Israeli Job Creation and Innovation

[From article]
EU’s Horizon 2020, the world’s largest public research program with which Israel has been associated since June 2014. This has meant both Israeli cooperation with European researchers and support for individual Israeli researchers.
This relationship is a testimony to the common language of science and intellectual interchange. It is a devastating commentary on the state of universities and professional organizations today, not only in the U.S. but also elsewhere, that so many, even if a minority, of the faculties and members reject this basic academic principle of free exchange of ideas. It is shameful and disgraceful that groups, such as the American Studies Association in 2013, the American Anthropological Association in 2014, and the American Historical Association in 2016, have passed or have taken seriously resolutions calling for boycott of academic institutions in Israel or making false allegations about the Israeli mistreatment of Palestinians in the field of education.
[. . .]

amid the turmoil in the Muslim world in the Middle East, Israel’s economy, according to Bloomberg News, continues to grow and is expected to be one of the fastest growing among developed countries? Certainly the EU is aware that Israel is prominent in the high tech field with innovative companies involved in cybersecurity, medical technology, information, and defense technology.
[. . .]
Chinese businessmen are not only investing heavily in Israeli technological companies, but also every year rapidly increasing that investment. Major companies such as Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing and Bosch are establishing research and development centers in Israel.
[. . .]

Scientific progress and intellectual advancement depend on truth. They are hindered by the lies and deceptions perpetrated by Palestinian organizations and supporters. The supposedly moderate Palestinian group Fatah disseminates the information that Israel steals and harvests the body parts and organs of dead Palestinian terrorists and sells them before giving the bodies to the Palestinian Authority.
The tragedy is that absurdities of this kind are not uttered by ignorant Palestinians and their friends but by officials such as Riyad Mansour, Permanent Observer of Palestine to the UN, in a letter to UN President Ben Ki-moon on November 5, 2015.

Trust Us, Nothing To Fear From Computers Taking Over, Said The Spider To The Fly

Hehehe

[From article]
Computers keep getting smaller and faster. That’s been happening for decades. But almost all of them are programmed to do what humans want them to do, the way humans want them to do it, and nothing more.
Now computers are beginning to learn — on their own. Years of research into artificial intelligence are beginning to pay off.
So-called machine learners already are diagnosing diseases, winning on “Jeopardy” and helping make rich hedge fund investors even richer. Machine learning is behind Facebook’s ability to figure out who your friend is by recognizing a picture of her face. Siri and Google Voice Search voice recognition? Machine learning is behind those too. And driverless cars.
Machine learning appears to be poised for rapid proliferation, with enormous implications for the workplace, the economy, politics and human culture.
Pedro Domingos, computer science professor at the University of Washington, offers an overview of the current state of machine learning in his just-published book, “The Master Algorithm: How the Quest for the Ultimate Learning Machine Will Remake Our World.”
[. . .]
There’s much to embrace and fear in machine learning, and much that we can do to make the most of it. Machine learning lightens the information overload, helps us find jobs and dates, lets cars drive themselves and lets our smartphones understand what we say.
Machine learning will eliminate many jobs, but also create many new ones.
Perhaps the biggest danger is that machines will cause damage while trying to serve us because they take our wishes too literally, or because they lack common sense.
[. . .]
People worry that computers will get too smart and take over the world, but the real problem is that they're too stupid and they've already taken over the world.
[. . .]
Being intelligent and being human are two very different things. AI algorithms don't have a will of their own: They just search for solutions to the problems we apply them to, and the more powerful the computers they run on, the harder the problems they can solve.
Computers are just extensions of us. You don't worry that your left arm will slap your face, so why would you worry that a computer will magically turn evil?

Police And Black Suspects

[From article]
the sensible explanation that stopping blacks makes perfectly good sense from a cop's point of view, because it results in higher productivity in apprehending criminals and solving crimes. And just like most folks in the work force, law enforcement officers are measured by and rewarded for higher productivity. Increased work production often leads to promotion and higher pay – not unreasonable goals for cops, just like the rest of us, to have.
The law enforcement commenter gave an example: in just three vehicle stops of blacks in the first three hours of a shift, he found fifteen violations and sixteen outstanding warrants. That's the kind of job production that gets your shift commander's attention. Do that often enough, and the chief is going to recognize your name and give you a longer handshake while he fixes you with a thoughtful gaze. And most likely, while he's pondering your future in his department, he's giving absolutely no thought to the race of the perps you have busted – simply the numbers you have added to his look-good statistics, which in turn will appease his masters and perhaps increase his own pay. It's called getting noticed, and it's a very good thing for ambitious persons in a very large number of professions. Why should it be any different with police officers?
[. . .]
it makes very good business sense if your business is enforcing the law and apprehending lawbreakers. And by extension, it makes good sense for our communities, because it removes their most frequent offenders. Whom do you want your police pulling over: citizens with clean records, or perps with a long list of priors and outstanding warrants? And is that racism, or the application of common sense to controlling crime in your community? It's just one more example of common sense colliding with liberal dogma.

It's Deja Vu All Over Again, Job Security, Job Security

Sleeping Beauty as the Republican Party

[From article]
I think we want a president who’s better than us.
[If that is so, who is better than the current occupant of the White House? Columbia University; Harvard Law School; Law Review? Huh? Better than that?]
[. . .]
The consultant class wants a neat, static world, where nothing ever changes. They produce an occasional tepid victory to create the illusion of a two-party system. But like Arafat with the PLO, Republican insiders don’t actually want to govern. The organization itself has become the cause — not the purported goals of the organization. Just keep the donations rolling in.
[. . .]

Trump is popular because we now live in a Kardashian nation and are one big cult of celebrity!
[. . .]
All that matters is that they get to keep their offices, their salaries and their friends.
[See. It's all about job security.]
[. . .]
Ironically, it’s the Ivy League billionaire living a glamorous New York City life who has rocked the political world by speaking for ordinary Americans and insulting the powerful. Meanwhile, depressingly average Washington insiders insult ordinary Americans and suck up to the powerful.
When someone like Trump comes along and is actually serious about winning the very causes the GOP purportedly seeks to advance, he is seen as a disruptive force.

Most alarmingly, Trump brought up immigration. The Democrats thought they had this one in the bag — they’d worked it all out with Republicans! Both sides had agreed: I won’t talk about it if you won’t.
The decision has already been made: We aren’t going to ask the American people what they think. We’re just going to do this because we think we’re right, and at a certain point it will be impossible to reverse, because Republicans will never be able to win another national election.
The transformation of our country has been a deliberate, methodical process, carefully hidden from the public.
[. . .]
Immigration is an easy argument to win. But if you talk about it, the media will cut your mike.
[. . .]
You might think California would wake up even the utter mediocrities in the Republican Party. But their predictable little lives have been disrupted. That’s why Trump has them in a panic.

Young Often Lack Job Skills

[From article]
“I’ve had countless experiences with kids who are just not ready,” he says.
“They haven’t picked up the skills that you learn by working and that’s often because they haven’t had to.
“They come in late, they don’t realise that they might have to do things they don’t want to, and they don’t appreciate the job. They think if they don’t like it here they can just pack up and get another job around the corner, keep chasing that almighty dollar without building their skills.”
[. . .]
She says while on paper young employees are more qualified than ever before, 20-somethings are showing up to work with degrees from universities that are “disconnected with the workforce”, and a lack of workplace experience.
“A number of our members consistently tell us they’re seeing students come out of university or training programs and they might have the academic or theoretical skills, but no skills to work at all. It makes them really hard to employ,” she says.
“General issues are not understanding that a job is about turning up on time every day, not just when you feel like, that it’s about taking direction, and basic things like you’ve got to be well presented and you’ve got to be pleasant.
[. . .]
“It’s not that the universities are teaching the wrong thing, but more that young people are encouraged to get an education, follow that to a job they believe they want to do, and the assumption that it’s going to be an automatic match with what’s required in the labour market,” Professor Wyn says.
“It would be fabulous if young people were gaining really strong skills that they should be learning, but it’s really hard for educators to catch up. Instead of turning it around and blaming schools, we should look at other path ways.

Extremist Leftists Do Not Want Racial Healing. All About Job Security

Booker T. Washington Lived 1856-1915

People are still doing the same dumb things as they did 5,000 years ago.

[From article]
Folks, our president actually said racism is in our DNA and is passed on from generation to generation.
Dude, you're a black man whom white folks -- because blacks are only 12% of the population -- made leader of the free world two times. Stop it with the “blacks are victims” nonsense. Millennial blacks have never or rarely experience bona-fide racism. So why are Obama and his fellow Leftists hell-bent on instilling racial paranoia and resentment against whites in millennial blacks?
[. . .]
The Left has been demonizing white males with impunity for years. In 2009, a NY Times article proclaimed “white men are evil”. “White Privilege” is included in public school curriculum, teaching white kids to feel guilty. The Left's assault on all things white has to have sparked resentments. Even a passive dog will turn and bite if kicked enough.
There is also no question that the Left's continuous drumbeat that all opposition to Obama is racist, that cops routinely murder blacks and that America has racism in its DNA has effected blacks.
[. . .]
The Knockout Game and Polar Bear Hunting are individual black youths blindsiding whites including the elderly and women in public places; punching their unsuspecting targets with all their might in hope of knocking them out with one punch. Then, these black attackers proudly post video of their successful knockouts on YouTube for their fans.
Before Ferguson and Baltimore, across America flash mobs of black youths were assaulting whites and looting at county fairs and malls. Again, under-reported by the mainstream Leftist media.
[. . .]
the last thing the Left wants is racial healing.

Negative Effects of New Health Care Law Worse Than Benefits

[From article]
The economy wouldn’t be nearly as stable as reported if not for this massive injection of government steroids. Liberal, or Keynesian, economists think that’s a positive feature of the new health law. But it’s actually a drawback.
Over time, higher taxes and spending act as a drag on the economy, crowding out private investment. Almost 90 percent of ObamaCare users get federal aid. As a result, a new CBO report projects ObamaCare subsidies will balloon to nearly $2 trillion over the next decade, only partially paid for by more than $640 billion in ObamaCare taxes and fines, which means more government borrowing and more upward pressure on interest rates.
A government-funded flood of new patients, many of them forced into mandatory spending on services they didn’t previously want or need, may be good for the health care sector, but it drains revenue from other sectors of the economy. That means GDP won’t reach its full potential. University of Chicago economist Casey Mulligan estimates that the Affordable Care Act will reduce GDP by 5 percent in the long run, thanks to all of its offsetting negative provisions.
[. . .]

“ObamaCare has caused millions of full-time jobs to become part-time,” Andy Puzder, the CEO of Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s, recently asserted.
As of January, more than 450 employers have made cuts to work hours or staffing levels as a result of ObamaCare, according to a database compiled by Investor’s Business Daily.
[. . .]
“Firms and individuals appear to be more risk adverse — businesses are hanging on to cash, fewer people are launching firms,” the Brookings Institution noted in a recent study of “business dynamism” in America.
ObamaCare may be helping some uninsured, but it’s killing entrepreneurs — the jobs engine of the American economy.

U.S. Senator Chuck "You" Schumer (D-NY) Admits Passing Obamacare Was Musguided

[From article]
Sen. Chuck Schumer upbraided his own party Tuesday for pushing the Affordable Care Act through Congress in 2010.
While Schumer emphasized during a speech at the National Press Club that he supports the law and that its policies "are and will continue to be positive changes," he argued that the Democrats acted wrongly in using their new mandate after the 2008 election to focus on the issue rather than the economy at the height of a terrible recession.
[. . .]
"We took their mandate and put all of our focus on the wrong problem—health care reform."
The third-ranking Senate Democrat noted that just about 5 percent of registered voters in the United States lacked health insurance before the implementation of the law, arguing that to focus on a problem affecting such "a small percentage of the electoral made no political sense."

Obama's Misguided Income Arguments

[From article]
For people having limited thinking skills, differences in earnings cannot be explained away. For them, Congress has permitted — and even fostered — a misallocation of people by race, sex and ethnicity. They'll argue that courts have consistently concluded that "gross" disparities are probative of a pattern and practice of discrimination. So what to do? Maybe President Obama and Congress should require women, who are overrepresented in preschool and kindergarten teaching, to become boilermakers, garbage collectors and brick masons and mandate that male boilermakers, trash collectors and brick masons become preschool and kindergarten teachers until both of their percentages are equal to their percentages in the population. You say, "Williams, to do that would be totalitarianism!" I say that if Americans accept that Congress can force us to buy health insurance, how much more totalitarian would it be for Congress to force people to take jobs they don't want?

More Hokum From US Dept. of Labor

[From article]
By contrast, Labor’s initial numbers come from guesses, coin tosses and Ouija board-like estimates.
From here on I’ll christen the Preliminary Benchmark Revision the “Oops Report” — and in it Labor will ’fess up that all the jobs it thought had been created really hadn’t been. Many of those 2 million jobs Obama can now brag about could evaporate in an Oops moment.
Keep in mind that even if that 2 million jobs gain holds up, the country is still down some 6 million jobs since the peak employment levels of 2007. All the president has to do, of course, is ignore that fact.

NY-NJ Dock Workers Earn $400 K

[From article]
"In some cases, union contracts specifically state that some positions — like checkers and timekeepers — are on the clock as long as the employees they oversee are working.
“These people don’t have to be at the pier. They don’t even have to be in the state,” said Walter Arsenault, executive director of the commission. “They get paid as if they are working.”
Because ships come in and out at all hours, many of the people who hold those positions are on the clock 24 hours a day, often on time-and-a-half or double-time.

I will say it again --- women should have never left the home. (a decline which began when they left home) I know many have to work today, but it was a mistake. (honestly, I'm suspicious of Freidan and Smith College's motives) Women held the homes together, they kept the kids in check, and I personally believe they were the authors of the innovation we seem to have lost --- they also kept the old neighborhood spit spot! I truly believe, the only thing women suceeded in doing, was driving down wages and the perks companies used to pay to keep a good man. Now, with a surplus of humans willing to keep their eye on the keyhole, why should a company pay a decent wage? And don't peg me a conservative -- -maybe fiscally, but I'm pretty liberal. I certainly don't believe women should lay down and die --- they should be ready to step in and run things in an instant, but, home is where they were needed most. And, if a guy wants to stay home, fine. But America cannot support two decent incomes per household ---- it is trying to do it now, and what has happened, you have some homes with no or little income.

Law Schools Worry About Becoming Obsolete?

Lawyers, police, FBI, courts, law schools, exist to protect the interests of the wealthy and powerful establishment. Currently that establishment is bringing the US into a global setting wherein citizens enjoy less rights and less privileges, less freedom and live as citizens of poorer nations have lived for many years. They do this without the consent of the governed. This misguided goal will have the same outcome as the floundering European Union. Forcing rich nations give their wealth to poor nations is no solution to poverty. It just makes everyone poor. Young law school grads can always get a job in Washington DC. Obama is hiring lawyers as fast as they can get to town.
