Sheriff Rescues Dog From Texas Floods

Nehls discovered Archer, a 2-year-old female border collie mix, tied to a front porch at a home about 30 miles southwest of Houston this week, nearly submerged in murky flood waters (pictured).

A touching rescue mission has ended with a Texas sheriff adopting a dog he helped save after the pooch was found chained to a house in knee-deep flood waters with no way to escape.
Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls had discovered Archer, a two-year-old female Border Collie mix, tied to a front porch of a home about 30 miles southwest of Houston last Tuesday.

The shelter said it took numerous baths to get the greasy film off Archer's coat from the nasty flood waters.

The dog was rescued by boat and taken to the Houston Humane Society where Nehls and his family went to visit her on Sunday.
'Archer was super excited to see the man that had helped save her life! It was love at first sight for everyone,' the shelter wrote in a Facebook post following the visit.
'Archer spent all afternoon giving kisses to the whole crew! At the end, the family voted unanimously to adopt Archer and make her part of their pack!!!'
Nehls confirmed the adoption that same day on his Facebook, writing: 'I am happy to say the only water this girl will be in now is the swimming pool in my backyard!
'We picked her up today from the Houston Humane Society. Welcome to the family!'

Massachusetts State Senator Warns of Flooded Cities and Towns

Is this the future of Cambridge, MA?

Is now the time for accelerated survival of the fittest? Not to worry. Humans who develop gills and adapt to living under water will survive. Others will perish. One solution is soon available from cutting edge genetic editors. Alterations of the genetic structure of humans, allows adding genes from other species. Would you like a gill on your left side, right side or both?

Cambridge, MA City Council Approves Basement Apartments With Lower Ceilings

Cambridge, MA City Council January 2016

Curious arguments by omniscient politicians. Earlier the argument was Inspectional Services could not enforce current laws, but new laws would be enforced. Now the issue is flooding? Harvard University took three residential units off the market contrary to their promise due to frequent flooding. Last week my kitchen sink drain backed up with dirt blocking the drain. This is another example of lack of critical thinking by Cambridge Councilors. Increased population density does not improve quality of life. What are they thinking?

Illegal Migrants Flood France Trying To Get To UK; German Citizens Outraged At Invasion

Photo: AP

[From article]
After fleeing their homes in places like Sudan and Afghanistan, migrants gathered in the northern French port city of Calais endure another kind of misery in a huge and squalid makeshift camp or in scattered open-air outposts.
Each night, they try to finish the final 31 miles (50 kilometers) of their journey by sneaking across the English Channel to settle in Britain.

At dusk, migrants converge in fields or on highways in a bid to sneak through Eurotunnel's security net, cutting holes in fences, or climbing over them, and trying to outsmart security forces. Like shadows, they walk train tracks leading to the mouth of the tunnel.

[From article]
In the first half of this year alone, more than 179,000 people applied for asylum in Germany, a country of about 80 million. That is an increase of 132 percent over the same period in 2014, with Syrians the largest group, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees said.
[. . .]
That same night, in nearby Dresden, a group of 50 people staged a demonstration against a tent city, hastily set up by the state to temporarily shelter hundreds of asylum-seekers. The Courage Against the Right group has counted 89 such demonstrations this year, many organized by local groups with names like Freital Defends Itself that have sprung up in cities and towns where empty office buildings and hotels have been converted into hostels for new arrivals.
[. . .]
Right-wing parties in Denmark are seeking to clamp down on the number of people coming in, while Hungary is pushing ahead with plans to build a 13-foot-high barbed-wire fence along its border with Serbia, despite criticism from its European Union partners.
The Czech government has defended the right of the police to detain illegal migrants. Last week, its president, Milos Zeman, responded to a revoltamong migrants held in a guarded facility by saying, “No one invited you here,” and, “If you don’t like it, leave.”

Aftermath of Storm, Worse Than Media Reports

[From article]
“It’s so bad here, a lot worse than how its being portrayed by the
media. They are finding bodies left and right, elderly people who
don’t even watch the news or who knew the storm was coming. I was just
with one of my best friends from high school and college, and his
house is completely gone. One story I heard was about this one guy who
evacuated his house during Hurricane Irene but then it got looted. So
when they told him to evacuate for Sandy, he said, ‘I’m not leaving.’
Now they can’t find him, his 13-year-old daughter is dead, and his
wife is in critical condition at the hospital.
