Patrick J. Buchanan is an historian. In his piece, “Dishonoring General Jackson”, Buchanan conjures up facts. That is what historians do. Regarding the recent proposal to put new faces on our currency, and noticing a very certain attitude,
“..this is affirmative action raised to fanaticism, a celebration of President Obama’s views and values, and a recasting of our currency..”
I heard a conservative radio host dismiss the currency reconfiguration issue as a non event. His argument was that there were more important issues to concern ourselves with, the national debt, illegal immigration, etc.. I maintain that we can hold concern for many things at the same time, and that this currency remake is indeed one that should hold our attention. Pat Buchanan agrees.
Image control is no small issue, and politicians and revolutionaries know it. To reface the currency is to shuffle the deck on historical hierarchies, or should I say “load” the deck. It is a rewrite of history, a new declaration of what is and was important. That is no small matter.

This is affirmative action raised to fanaticism, a celebration of President Obama’s views and values, and a recasting of our currency to make Obama’s constituents happy at the expense of America’s greatest heroes and historic truth…
While King already has a holiday and monument in D.C., were the achievements of any of these six women remotely comparable to what the six men honored on our currency — Washington, Jefferson, Hamilton, Jackson, President Grant and Ben Franklin — achieved?



I find it curious that we get the forced and reworked American history lesson from a man who was never tutored in history in the continental United States, and received none from his schooling in Indonesia.

The Long Island dermatologist and married mom whose body was found in the doorway of a Chelsea apartment building died of “acute cocaine and alcohol intoxication,” according to an autopsy report Monday.
“The manner of death is accident,” the city Medical Examiner’s Office added.
Dr. Kiersten Rickenbach Cerveny, a 38-year-old mother of three, was found unconscious early on Oct. 4 with her feet propping open the door of 223 W. 16th St. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police sources have said Cerveny went on a drug binge with married HBO producer Marc Henry Johnson, 51, before she collapsed.
She and Johnson, a longtime pal, allegedly met up during Cerveny’s wild girls’ night out on the Lower East Side. The group was partying hard until 2:30 in the morning. Then, at around 3 a.m., Cerveny and Johnson peeled off to go to his dealer’s apartment on West 16th Street, sources said.
After Cerveny collapsed, Johnson and the dealer, ex-con James Holder, carried her to the front of the building and left her there, sources said.
Holder fled, and Johnson called 911 before running off himself, they said.
Police said Monday that they don’t expect to make any arrests in the case.

By 4 a.m., they were in a cab on the way to Chelsea, and the two went up to the cabdriver’s apartment.
Kiersten’s body was found at 8:30 that morning, sprawled in the vestibule, her feet propping the door open. Video showed Johnson and the driver dragging her body down the building’s stairs, leaving her to die alone.

Yet Karina Freedman, a skin-care specialist with a large clientele in Kiersten’s Manhasset neighborhood, says many of these women are, in fact, leading double lives.
“So many of the husbands work late hours and their wives are home alone,” she tells The Post. “So, on weekends, it’s common for them to go out to bars and clubs in the city without their husbands. Many of the women in Manhasset are partiers.”

On Monday, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, in San Francisco, cleared the way for the case to go to trial, and set a guideline that may change the way media companies police their holdings online. In its decision, the three-judge panel ruled that copyright holders must consider fair use before asking services like YouTube to remove videos that include material they control.

“Today’s ruling sends a strong message that copyright law does not authorize thoughtless censorship of lawful speech,” Corynne McSherry, the foundation’s legal director, said in a statement.
A spokesman for the Recording Industry Association of America, Jonathan Lamy, said, “We respectfully disagree with the court’s conclusion about the D.M.C.A. and the burden the court places upon copyright holders before sending takedown notices,” referring to the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
In her suit, Ms. Lenz argued that her use of Prince’s music was protected by fair use, which allows the use of copyrighted material under certain conditions like commentary, criticism or news reporting.

US Government Continues Militarization Of Local Police, Now Using Facial Recognition

Facial recognition software, which American military and intelligence agencies used for years in Iraq and Afghanistan to identify potential terrorists, is being eagerly adopted by dozens of police departments around the country to pursue drug dealers, prostitutes and other conventional criminal suspects. But because it is being used with few guidelines and with little oversight or public disclosure, it is raising questions of privacy and concerns about potential misuse.
Law enforcement officers say the technology is much faster than fingerprinting at identifying suspects, although it is unclear how much it is helping the police make arrests.
When Aaron Harvey was stopped by the police here in 2013 while driving near his grandmother’s house, an officer not only searched his car, he said, but also took his photograph and ran it through the software to try to confirm his identity and determine whether he had a criminal record.
Eric Hanson, a retired firefighter, had a similar experience last summer. Stopped by the police after a dispute with a man he said was a prowler, he was ordered to sit on a curb, he said, while officers took his photo with an iPad and ran it through the same facial recognition software. The officers also used a cotton swab to collect a DNA sample from the inside of his cheek.

County documents show that over 33 days in January and February, 26 San Diego law enforcement agencies used the software to try to identify people on more than 20,600 occasions — although officers found a match to criminal records only about 25 percent of the time.
Lieutenant Wahl said the department was not aware of any complaints about the software or about the policy of collecting DNA samples that Mr. Hanson and others have described.

“It is not as if there is the identification of a specific crime problem; they are simply collecting a lot of information that could impact a lot of completely innocent people,” said Michael German, a fellow at the Brennan Center for Justice and a former F.B.I. agent. “There is very little oversight on the local level, and little concern from the federal agencies providing the grants.”
Facial recognition technology was first developed in the 1960s, but only recently became accurate enough for widespread use. It is among an array of technologies, including StingRay tracking devices and surveillance aircraft with specialized cameras, that were used in overseas wars but have found their way into local law enforcement.

But people who are not criminal suspects are included in the database, and the error rate for the software is as high as 20 percent — meaning the authorities could misidentify millions of people.
Among the cities that use facial recognition technology are New York and Chicago, which has linked it to 25,000 surveillance cameras in an effort to fight street crime.

Mr. Harvey, 27, remains upset about what happened to him. He said that when he refused to consent to having his picture taken, the officer boasted that he could do so anyway.
“He said, ‘We’re going to do this either legally or illegally,’ and pulled me out of the car,” Mr. Harvey said.
Mr. Harvey, who is African-American, said the San Diego Police had stopped him as a suspected gang member more than 50 times because his neighborhood, Lincoln Park, is among the city’s most violent.
He said he had been told he was in a gang database, even though he has never been a gang member. He recently spent nearly a year in jail on gang conspiracy charges that were dismissed in March. “I don’t know how good a gang member I could have been, not having a criminal record,” he said.

Fab Lab Hub, a nonprofit digital fabrication laboratory in Kendall Square, is manufacturing prosthetic hands for kids and adults in need using a three-dimensional printer.
The organization, which is one of more than 500 Fab Labs worldwide, prints e-Nable hand designs that are then distributed to folks for free through Enabling the Future, a global network of volunteers.
The prosthetic hands are not meant for fine-motor control, but rather for simple tasks like riding a bike, throwing a ball or picking up a water bottle, according to founder Sarah Boisvert.

The devices cannot hold more than a few pounds of weight, however, and the fingers do not move individually. The grip strength on most of the designs is not very strong and they cannot be used for playing on monkey bars or doing handstands, according to Enabling the Future’s website.

Florida Predator Exploited Teenagers Online For Nude Pictures

Federal authorities are crediting the bravery of an exploited 14-year-old girl with uncovering a nationwide “sextortion” scheme involving hundreds of underage victims — including four from the Bay State — and are urging anyone else who may have been preyed on to come forward.
“The goal is not to just look at this case, it’s to make parents aware that if it is also happening to somebody else, there might be other predators out there that we need to put in jail,” said Peter F. Kowenhoven, an assistant special agent in charge in the FBI’s Boston office, adding that before Ashley Reynolds’ parents called the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), investigators “didn’t have a case” against the man who terrorized her.
“We weren’t aware that this individual was involved in these sextortions,” Kowenhoven said. “What happened was the parents were able to access her online account ... approached her and said, ‘What is going on here?’ ”
With the help of the NCMEC, Kowenhoven said investigators were able to track the threatening emails Reynolds was receiving to an IP address in Jacksonville, Fla., and ultimately to the home of Lucas M. Chansler, 31.
His massive online “sextortion” scheme entailed relentlessly preying on Reynolds and others for sexually explicit photos by threatening to send nude pictures of them to their family and friends. Chansler has since been sentenced to 105 years in prison.
Now authorities are turning to the public for help identifying his remaining 241 victims.

The governor declared a state of emergency and called in the National Guard to restore order. A weeklong, daily curfew was imposed beginning Tuesday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., the mayor said. At least 15 officers were hurt, and some two dozen people were arrested. Two officers remained hospitalized, police said.

Emergency officials were constantly thwarted as they tried to restore calm. Firefighters trying to put out a blaze at a CVS store were hindered by someone who sliced holes in a hose connected to a fire hydrant, spraying water all over the street and nearby buildings.

Police urged parents to locate their children and bring them home. Many of those on the streets appeared to be African-American youths, wearing backpacks and khaki pants that are a part of many public school uniforms.
The riot broke out just as high school let out, and at a key city bus depot for student commuters around Mondawmin Mall, a shopping area northwest of downtown Baltimore. It shifted about a mile away later to the heart of an older shopping district and near where Gray first encountered police. Both commercial areas are in African-American neighborhoods.
Later in the day, people began looting clothing and other items from stores at the mall, which became unprotected as police moved away from the area. About three dozen officers returned, trying to arrest looters but driving many away by firing pellet guns and rubber bullets.

The United States has begun the seventh year of leadership under the most liberal of Democrat Presidents the Oval Office has ever known. Further, this president had control of one or both Houses of Congress for all of his first six years in office. Thus it’s entirely accurate to state that the policy results in America today are thoroughly the result of Democratic Party rule. Has all this implementation of Democrat ideology and policy initiative benefited the poor, made fewer poor, and been detrimental to the wealthy similarly making fewer of them as well? An objective analysis of the data leads to but one inarguable conclusion – not so much.
Under the first six years of the Obama administration the rich have gotten very rich, the poor have gotten very poor.

A more appropriate way of looking at it would be to say “Obama so loves the poor that he’s made millions more of them.”

The past six years have been very, very kind to the rich and ultra-rich in America. The Obama presidency has fostered an explosion in the number of millionaires within our borders and has bloated the bank accounts of the ‘already-millionaires’ in ways the George W. Bush presidency could hardly have imagined. (Or any other presidency for that matter.)

Though he loves delivering swelling messages about the poor and middle classes and the need for government to do more to help those struggling millions, the facts are that while the lower classes continue to miser away on penny-pinching budgets, the economy on Obama’s watch has heaped huge windfalls on the already-rich.

Six years of an uber-liberal presidency has not helped the poor and lower classes nor has it harmed the rich and upper classes. It has done the exact opposite.

How many others are clueless about how computers work? It shows that no matter how wealthy, how famous, common sense and wisdom does not follow. Consider how simple the matter is. A corporation sells you space on their hard drives to store your photos, music and texts. At least their employees have access to your personal information. As we too often see, hackers can break into their alleged safe data banks. Why would anyone want to store his or her personal information on another person's hard drive and keep paying rent forever. It is cheaper and more secure to have one's own hard drives. The idea of sharing across platforms and devices all of your information makes it possible to break into any one of them to gain access to all of them. These are the same people who lecture us about politics ands race.

150 Years Late, Civil War Photographer Gets His Overdue Credit

A little-known Scottish photographer who became the first person to picture casualties on the battlefields of the Civil War has finally been recognised in a new book.
Alexander Gardner, from Paisley, Renfrewshire, risked his life to capture the conflict on film but was robbed of most of the credit by his employer.
Gardner emigrated to the United States in 1856 and captured some of the most startling images on the bloody battlefields of Antietam and Gettysburg.
But most of his work was attributed to his boss Matthew Brady, who was the manager of a gallery in Washington.
As the 150th anniversary of the end of the war draws nearer, a new book giving an incredible account of the pioneer's work is set to finally give him the recognition he deserves.
Author Keith Steiner, from Banff, Aberdeenshire, said yesterday (Tue): 'I wanted to right an injustice.
