Privileged University of Missouri Student Protester Accused of Theft, Drugs, Misogyny

Jonathan Butler made news with a hunger strike at Mizzou last year, but some of his online rants are eyebrow-raising. (Heat Street)

[From article]
“Butler did it,” gushed Southern Christian Leadership Conference president Vernon Howard, introducing the graduate student as he made the keynote speech at the Martin Luther King Jr. celebration in January. Since November, Butler has made half-a-dozen speeches, including addresses at the law schools of Harvard and Duke.
Perhaps these institutions should have done their research before portraying Butler as a social-justice hero. Heat Street’s review of Butler’s online presence, as well as video reviewed exclusively by the publication, reveals he’s chronically stolen items, denigrated low-income workers, and made troubling comments about women and drugs.
ost of the coverage of the events of last fall focused on claims of pervasive racism at the university, as well as administrators’ struggle to address the demands of student organization #ConcernedStudent1950. But our investigation has uncovered not only past controversial statements by Butler but also other dimensions to the unrest, including pervasive fears about safety on campus, as well as massive backlash from donors, sports fans and alumni.
Last fall, other student activists and social-justice warriors on campus began looking into Butler’s background because he hadn’t been involved in activism at the University of Missouri previously, and they had concerns about his speaking for everyone. Now that things on the campus have settled down, they’ve provided the information they found to Heat Street.
In a blog post from August 2011, titled “My Summer Breakfast Experience,” Butler describes how, for 61 days, he swung by a hotel before work and “decided to indulge myself with ‘free’ breakfast items.”
Butler describes trying to get caught stealing food, making goofy faces in the camera and making sure staff got a good look at his face.
[. . .]

His disdain for low-income Americans is also apparent in another blog post, from July 2011, that was written about his visit to a Subway sandwich shop. Butler describes how he “stormed up to the counter inpatient [sic] and indecisive,” further detailing rude behavior to the worker. He describes watching the worker, “a grumpy older gentleman, about 70-75 years old,” making his sandwich.”
Butler, who grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, is the son of an railroad executive whose compensation in 2014 was $8.4 million, according to regulatory filings.
Some videos published by Butler, also in 2011, are equally controversial.
In one, nearly 15 minutes long that was published to YouTube in March 2011, Butler says he wants to “address the issue—a very important issue—of XX versus XY. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, male and female: which is better.”
Butler and a guest continue to discuss the problem of “ratchet women,” who flirt and generally are not well-behaved, by their reckoning.
“So you’re saying, she jumps from male to male,” Butler says, continuing: “So this would be like in the kingdom, the wild kingdom, where they’re trying to get their prey.”
At one point, Butler asks his guest: “So what he’s saying is that us as men, we don’t have issues, it’s all women, obviously, because what do we do? We just eat, sleep, work, we’re the backbone. Is that what you’re saying? … You’re saying all women are trash, is that what you’re saying?”
Another 9-minute video, posted to YouTube in July 2011, features Butler singing about cooking crack cocaine with his love interest.

Duke University Basketball Coach Suspends Player for Sexual Assault Allegations. First Dismissal in 35 Years

[From article]
The Duke Chronicle reported junior guard Rasheed Sulaimon, who became Mike Krzyzewski’s first dismissal in 35 years as coach when Sulaimon was booted from the Blue Devils in late January, twice has been accused of sexual assault — and the basketball program’s honchos knew about it since March 2014.
The report says two female students separately alleged — in front of groups of other students at campus retreats — that they were sexually assaulted by Sulaimon, a 20-year-old Houston native. Neither woman pursued a complaint with the Office of Student Conduct, according to the student newspaper. Because of confidentiality rules, it is unknown whether the university initiated its own probe if administrators became aware of an alleged sexual assault, as legally obligated by Title IX.

Redefining Rape, and False Accusations

[From article]
College must be difficult for white, straight coeds, because it’s so hard to be a victim. You’re not black, you’re not gay, you don’t have leprosy — what can you do to acquire victim cool? Join the rape club!
On college campuses, two millennia of Anglo-Saxon law has been scrapped in deference to sexual assault doctrines that would embarrass Chairman Mao. Young men’s futures are being put in the hands of the most closed-minded, reason-free, quick-to-accuse, unfair, standardless humans on Earth.
I’m sorry we were popular in high school! Can you stop accusing us of rape now?

Law and Order TV Episode on Rape Inspired By Duke University Student

Belle Knox (left); Evie (right)

[From article]
The episode follows Evie (Hannah Marks), who just turned 18 and answers a modeling ad in hopes she could make quick cash for her looming college tuition. The modeling agency turns out to be a hardcore porn website, but Evie goes along with it and leaves with a $3,000 paycheck. Two boys at the fictional Hudson University in New York City come across the “18 With a Bang” porn site and recognize their “mousey” classmate right away. They invite her to a party, corner her in a bathroom, rape her and film it. The rest of the episode covers the trial and what exactly constitutes as rape when the victim is a rape-fantasy porn star.

Duke University Academics Promote Palestinians Over Israelis

[From article]
In a recent Facebook post titled “It is time!,” at the end of a sugary call for “love” and “justice,” Safi rejects the two-state solution that would permit Israel and Palestine to coexist side-by-side and insists on a single “democratic state with equal rights for all her citizens.” This is a leftist trope that, while sounding just, in truth will mean the takeover of Israel by a Muslim majority bent on extreme retribution -- perhaps even genocide.

What About Reputations?

The "Duke 88" consisted of 88 Duke professors who signed an ad which implicitly assumed that Duke lacrosse players raped a black stripper, an allegation that proved to be entirely fraudulent. The ad praised protesters who had put lacrosse players' photos on "wanted" posters, associated "what happened to this young woman" with "racism and sexism," and suggested that the lacrosse players were getting privileged treatment because of their race.

60 MINUTES: Duke University Rape Case

60 MINUTES: Duke University Rape Case

Lesley Stahl April 15, 2007
60 Minutes
524 West 57th Street
New York NY 10019 Duke Rape Case

Dear Lesley Stahl,

I write about a recurring pattern on 60 Minutes denigrating persons with
a history of mental illness.
On Sunday April 15, 2007 Lesley Stahl interviewing Roy Cooper, North
Carolina Attorney General, reported, “After his three-month investigation
Attorney General Cooper realized that the accuser was clearly mentally
unbalanced. Records Nifong himself filed in the case show Crystal Mangaham had a
long psychological history and has taken anti psychotic medication like Depakote
and Seroquel.”
What is the connection between being “clearly mentally unbalanced,” and
committing a crime or falsely accusing another person?
Do you believe that mental illness causes crime or violence? There is no
causal connection between an accusation of mental illness and crime or violence.
But it is a pervasive stereotype among journalists, police, prosecutors and some
psychiatrists.
If anything it is the psychiatric drugs which cause people to act
irrationally. American journalists are mostly ignorant of British clinical
studies which prove that connection. I am aware that Mike Wallace is a spokesman
for the drug industry. I see the many ads from drug companies which sponsor your
show.
I write and speak to politicians, journalists, police and
prosecutors about this problem. As in your report there are frequent immediate
references to a history of mental illness to explain crime or violence. At
arraignments an inappropriate time, prosecutors regularly cite a history of
mental illness, as if it was the cause of the accused’s actions. They repeat
allegations from neighbors, relatives, lovers and police as if all of them are
psychiatrists. It shows how arbitrary psychiatry is.
On one occasion US Rep. Delahunt (D-MA) when he was a District Attorney in
Massachusetts said of a suspect that “there is no history of mental illness” as
if that would explain the crime.
I called to the headquarters of the Mass state police. I asked why
the police do not listen to a person they believe to have a mental illness. He
said “because you cannot rely on what they say."
I said, “That implies that normal people do not lie.”
With respect to discrimination, persons with disabilities have the same
legal protections as members of racial, religious, sexual orientation and gender
groups. But people, including journalists and prosecutors prioritize kinds of
discrimination.
I’m aware of how laws are written. The public discourse regarding
psychiatry is controlled by the psychiatric industry, the drug industry, the
human services corporations and the academic research industry.
The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) is a lobbyist for the drug
companies. They get $2-$3 million each year from drug companies to promote drug
treatment. Journalists often quote NAMI as an advocacy organization for the
rights of patients.
I want to register my objection to the portrayal of the accuser in the
Duke rape case. I do not defend her. I was skeptical of her accusations as soon
as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson arrived on the scene. I live in Cambridge, MA
the incubator for limousine liberals and the PC movement. There are few places
with public discourse as distorted as in Cambridge. The upper class liberals in
Cambridge does not tolerate criticism. They do not advocate equal opportunities
for persons with disabilities.
