Icy Streets Cause Hundreds of Accidents in New York-New Jersey Metro Area

“We haven’t seen it this bad since Hurricane Sandy,” said one source.
Rain coming down between 7 and 8 a.m. created the black ice when it met the freezing pavement, according to Accuweather.
The 911 call volume was three times more than normal between 7:30 and 10:30 a.m., a source said.
By 3 p.m., there had been about 3,600 city calls citywide– when normally the call volume would have been 1,800.
The Bronx and Brooklyn had the most 911 calls, and ambulances had to come from New Jersey, Nassau and Suffolk County to help out.

“You would think the town would be more prepared,” he said. “I saw on the news last night that it was going to be icy.”
