An extreme leftist organization has issued what critics contend is a “starter kit” for jihadists and a “hit list” that paints a target on the backs of a dozen high-profile women who are outspoken in their opposition to jihad and Shariah law.
The list, which includes unflattering sketches of the ladies it vilifies, is titled “Women Against Islam” and was compiled by Mark Potok and Janet Smith of the Southern Poverty Law Center, or SPLC.

“Who appointed the SPLC the judge of what is a hate group and what isn’t? Its listing about me is made up of one lie after another, and that is no surprise,” [Pamela] Geller told WND.
“The SPLC is the real hate group, using that label to demonize and stigmatize all who don’t share their hard-left agenda. The SPLC smear machine does not profile jihad groups but they target and libel patriots, veterans, tea-party orgs and other groups that work in defense of freedom.”

“Publishing this list of names – along with artist sketches, birth dates and home towns – is a call to the jihadist enemy to target and attack the 12 of us,” she said. “With this list, the SPLC has aligned itself with Islamic law on slander, a capital crime, which is defined by Shariah as ‘anything that would offend a Muslim,’ including speaking truth about Islam. …
“At a time when champions of our First Amendment like Pamela Geller need 24/7 armed protection – just to stay alive – in America! – due to death threats from the Islamic State and other fifth-column jihadis living among us, for the SPLC to collaborate with that enemy, against our rights as American citizens freely to speak truth, is reprehensible.”

In August 2012, 28-year-old homosexual activist Floyd Lee Corkins II attempted a mass shooting at the headquarters of the Family Research Council, a group that promotes traditional Judeo-Christian beliefs about the family and homosexuality.
Corkins said he intended to kill “as many people as I could.” He admitted he chose FRC because the organization was listed as an “anti-gay” hate group by the SPLC on its website.

A 2000 Harper’s Magazine article by Ken Silverstein reported that SPLC “spends twice as much on fund-raising – $5.76 million last year [1999] – as it does on legal services for victims of civil rights abuses.”
In 2010, Silverstein added, “The SPLC operates on the same basis today. Oh, except its treasury is now up to $175 million or so, bigger than the GNP of some of the world’s smaller nations.”
According to Charity Navigator, SPLC’s 2013 outlays fell into the following categories: program expenses, 65.4 percent; administrative expenses, 12.7 percent; and fundraising expenses, 22 percent.
Some of SPLC’s donors include the Anti-Defamation League, Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, Democratic National Committee, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Hillary for America, Museum of Tolerance, United Farm Workers, United Negro College Fund, the NAACP, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, EMILY’s List.
SPLC Founder and trial lawyer Morris Dees – whose multi-million-dollar mansion is reportedly dripping with luxury – has contributed money to: John Edwards, John Kerry, Ralph Nader, Bill Clinton, Tom Harkin, Julian Bond, Ted Kennedy and Jimmy Carter.

Also in 2013, SPLC President Richard Cohen brought in $359,300.
“So what makes the SPLC the steward of those disadvantaged in our country? The SPLC is nothing less than a wealthy bunch of ambulance chasers that spew their own form of hate,” Hinners wrote on her website, DailyRollCall.com.

Today’s leftists are much like the zealots who attacked cathedrals during the Reformation, knocking the heads off statues, destroying relics, breaking stained glass windows and even stripping paint from church walls. The iconoclasts believed they were purifying the church from idolatry and heresy by so doing.
In like manner, the religion of the Left is seeking the destruction of symbols, statues and paintings representing what they believe to be an unmitigated racist world view diametrically opposed to the doctrines of the pure church of liberalism.
Consequently, what may be at stake is the distinct possibility of a panicky purge of the history of the American South. A purge is to be achieved by eliminating anything that calls forth memory of the Confederacy.

the motives have always the same: destroy any offensive symbols of historical events that indicating beliefs differing from the reigning cultural powers. Only one viewpoint is to be permitted. Only “pure” symbols reflecting the viewpoint of ideologues is to be taught.

The reasoning behind a potential purge of Southern history by an iconoclastic Left appears to be the hope that by eliminating the symbols of racism, the actual sin of racism will be expurgated. Racism can be eliminated by taking away the forms that give it substance. It is a matter of eliminating statues and flags, not a matter of changing hearts.

More Black Teens Killed in Chicago Since Charleston SC Shooting Than In That Mass Murder, Journalists Remain Silent

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, ten African-Americans have been killed in the city since the Charleston church murders on June 17. Read about them here.
The Chicago news and entertainment website Redeye lists 16 murders between the 10th and 17th.
The victims, of course, are almost all young men, and no one was killed in church. These black lives matter to their family and friends, but not to the national media.
If racism were endemic in American society, would the mass murder of blacks by whites have happened just once in the last half century?
Serial murders or rampage killings of whites by blacks are rare, but they’ve occurred a number of times. Probably the most notorious were the Zebra murders in San Francisco in 1973 and 1974, where somewhere between 16 and 80 whites were killed, some trussed like turkeys and tortured. Readers will remember at least a few others: Aaron Alexis, who killed twelve whites at the Washington Navy Yard, Omar Thornton, who killed eight whites at a beer distributor in Hartford, and Colin Ferguson, who shot to death six whites on a Long Island commuter train.

And the last thing we can expect from the media is a dispassionate, reasonable response to a crime that, one has to feel, journalists have been waiting for decades.

PBS launched its investigation after it was reported that Affleck requested the program not reveal his ancestor's slave-holding history in the 2014 episode. The Associated Press examined historical documents and found that Affleck's great-great-great-grandfather owned 24 slaves.
The review found that co-producers violated PBS standards by allowing improper influence on the show's editorial process and failed to inform PBS or producing station WNET of Affleck's efforts to affect the program's content.
In a statement, series host and executive producer Henry Louis Gates Jr. apologized for forcing PBS to defend the integrity of its programming. He said he's working with public TV on new guidelines to ensure increased transparency.

Gates and PBS said in April they didn't censor the slave-owner details. Instead, more interesting ancestors of Affleck emerged and Gates chose to highlight them instead in the show that traces the ancestry of well-known guests.
But in an email exchange between Gates and Sony Pictures chief executive Michael Lynton, Gates asks Lynton for advice on how to handle Affleck's request.
"Here's my dilemma," says Gates in one email, dated July 22, 2014, "confidentially, for the first time, one of our guests has asked us to edit out something about one of his ancestors — the fact that he owned slaves. Now, four or five of our guests this season descend from slave owners, including (documentary filmmaker) Ken Burns. We've never had anyone ever try to censor or edit what we found. He's a megastar. What do we do?"
Lynton replied that it all depends on who knows that the information was in the documentary already.

The Orem Owlz baseball team in Utah scheduled Caucasian Heritage Night, or what some are calling a “white appreciation event,” long ago, before the racially-motivated South Carolina shootings, and that the Caucasian Heritage Night event was meant to be a “lighthearted” roast of Caucasian people, poking fun at white stereotypes, reports CNN,
But when the Orem Owlz put up a Caucasian Heritage Night post on Friday, promoting what they perceived to be an event mocking the behaviors and likes of white people, social media blew up, many, such as a woman calling herself Melanin Monroe, apparently offended and angered by the Caucasian Heritage Night event, thinking white people get enough attention as it is.

The Larimer County Health Department confirmed that a teen died from the plague earlier this month.
Taylor Gaes died on June 8, most likely from fleas on a dead rodent or other animal on the family acreage.

In recent decades, an average of seven human plague cases are reported each year nationwide according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Most human cases in the United States are scattered in rural areas and occur predominantly in two regions:
Northern New Mexico, northern Arizona, and southern Colorado
California, southern Oregon, and far western Nevada
Bubonic plague is the most common form of the disease in humans (about 80% of cases) Symptoms begin two to six days after the bite of an infected flea, or contact with an infected rodent or cat. Typical symptoms include swollen lymph nodes, sudden onset of fever or chills, severe headache, extreme exhaustion, and a general feeling of illness. Bubonic plague can be successfully treated when diagnosed promptly. If you have had a possible exposure to infected rodents or fleas and are experiencing these symptoms, consult a physician as soon as possible.

A talented high school athlete has died after contracting the plague at his family's Colorado ranch.
Taylor Gaes, 16, from Fort Collins succumbed to the disease just four days after he started suffering from 'flu-like symptons' despite being in 'superb health'.
The sophomore was a top sportsman at Poudre High School, playing for the varsity baseball team as a pitcher and the football team as quarterback.
His coaches said with his 6ft 4in frame, he was destined to play college sport, but his career was cut tragically short by the freak illness. [. . .]
On average, only seven people contract the plague in the U.S. every year and the last time there was a case in Larimer County was in 1999. Only three have been logged in the last 30 years.
The youngster's family decided to release his name after hundreds of mourners turned up to their farm to show their respects.
Their tragic announcement was made in a bid to warn those who were on their land to seek medical attention.

Concerns about landlords displacing tenants for renovations belongs with the state legislature. Maybe a home rule petition from the City Council, or protesters at landlord homes paid by George Soros, would solve problem. Property owners who fail to clear sidewalks after snow storms often find it is cheaper to pay fines than to clear the snow. It is usually the same property owners each year who do not clear paths for pedestrians.

Before they graduate from Columbia’s School of the Arts, M.F.A. students in the theater producing and management concentration are required to put together a project that has some connection to the University.
As befitting a budding producer, Danielle Gautier, a first-year student in the program, decided to go big on her project. “I got to thinking, `What could I do that would really showcase the Columbia community?’ she said. "I started researching who’s gone here – the composers, the writers, the actors. What I found was that there was more than enough material, so why not use everyone?”

Willimon drew inspiration for his speech in part from the documentary The Fog of War, in which Robert McNamara, the U.S. Secretary of Defense from 1961 to 1968, talks about the Vietnam War and eleven lessons he learned from that conflict.
"I realized these eleven lessons were just as applicable to the making of art as they were to the waging of war," Willimon said. "And maybe it's because making art is a battle of sorts, because if you're not climbing Mount Olympus to spar with the gods, what's the damn point?"
Willimon shared the lessons, elaborating upon each of them:

1. Empathize with your enemy. ("The enemy is fear.")
2. Rationality alone will not save us.
3. There's something beyond oneself.
4. Maximize efficiency.
5. Proportionality should be a guideline in a war. ("I'm going to replace it with something a little more useful, which is, none of us can do this alone, folks.")
6. Get the data. ("Your data set has no boundaries. It's everything from Anna Karenina to the scribblings of a three-year-old child, from a Vermeer in the Met to the beauty of a piss stain on the sidewalk, from the kings and queens of Shakespeare's plays to the hookers and junkies and queens of an SRO on Jane Street.")
7. Belief and seeing are both often wrong.
8. Be prepared to re-examine your reasoning.
9. In order to do good, you may have to engage in evil. ("I think it's applicable if you revise it to 'In order to make something beautiful, you may have to engage in the ugly or the horrific or the uncomfortable.' ")
10. Never say never.
11. You can't change human nature.

It holds that especially right now, in this time of pain, sorrow and efforts at reconciliation (by some), it’s an ideal time to dispense with the flag. The real reason is simple. Is removing the flag really a good idea?

What currently exists is an emotionally charged environment, and, as a rule, that’s the worst possible time to make decisions. A fit of emotion caused the ancient Athenians to condemn philosopher Socrates and force him to drink the hemlock; they regretted the decision almost immediately afterwards and erected a statue in his honor. But that’s the way of the mob — it’s an emotional entity whose feelings change with the wind

On all matters racial, the media polices not only sins of commission but sins of omission. The hate on display in the controversy is coming not from the flag’s defenders but from a smug liberal elite that can’t rest until every inch of America conforms to their liberal prejudices. Jon Stewart’s supposedly anguished remarks about the Charleston horror seemed more like childish pouting and sophomoric South-bashing, with the glib host demanding that even the streets of the South be renamed: “In South Carolina, the roads that black people drive on are named for Confederate Generals who fought to keep black people from driving freely on that road. That’s insanity. That’s racial wallpaper. You can’t allow that.”
Like French Revolutionaries, the liberal elite wants American culture to begin from scratch, built on nothing more than the conviction that the past is wicked and the present good. Even as the moral refuse of modern life grows higher and higher, its spokesmen can still peer down from it to denounce the past pitilessly.

Teens who shoot up churches and movie theaters haven’t been reading the biographies of Stonewall Jackson and Robert Lee. They have been immersed in an increasingly demented pop culture that celebrates the absence of virtue and discipline.
Only the liberal elite could be smug enough to think America is moving from a culture of “hate” to a culture of love under its dictates. Instead, it is moving toward a new culture of hate, one that is marked not by balanced moral judgments but by fanatical fiats.

Stanton rises from obscurity, works his way through law school, marries, fathers two children, and becomes active in local politics. He truly mourns his young wife when she dies in childbirth; almost 16 years go by before he remarries, this time to a 26-year-old heiress who provides emotional and financial support on his ultimate ascent to power. With a combination of infighting, intelligence, and toadying to the prominent, Stanton becomes the lead attorney in a number of high-profile cases. Among these is an early use of the “insanity defense” to secure a not-guilty verdict for Daniel Sickles (later General Sickles) who had killed his wife’s lover. In another trial, Stanton represents the inventor of the McCormick reaper in a patent suit. He wins handily, impressing an ambitious attorney who has watched the adroit legal tactics from his seat in the courtroom. That lawyer happened to be on his own climb from obscurity to ever-higher offices.

When Honest Abe became the sixteenth president, he decided to talk to Stanton about joining his cabinet. He didn’t have far to look. The previous president, James Buchanan, had already appointed Stanton as his attorney general. By then Stanton had settled in Washington, and shortly after the cannons fired at Fort Sumter, Lincoln chose him to be his secretary of war. The results were a mixture of competence and repression. Stanton brought discipline and order to his department, cleaned out the hacks and scapegraces, and saw to it that federal troops were decently clothed and fed.
But he was also in favor of the suspension of habeas corpus and backed his boss in other extra-democratic moves.

President Ulysses S. Grant, who couldn’t abide the man, nevertheless nominated him for the Supreme Court. The Senate gave its approval by a vote of 46 to 11. But the new judge never had a chance to serve. Four days after he was confirmed, Edwin Stanton died of a coronary thrombosis, leaving his career and contradictions to the historians.

The 36-second cellphone video starts off with a man pushing a cop from the 32nd Precinct trying to handcuff his sister near 144th Street and 8th Avenue around 11:30 p.m.
“That’s my sister,” the man, identified as cops as Terrell Mitchell, 26, can be heard yelling before he sucker punches the male officer twice in the back of the head, knocking off his glasses.
According to police, Mitchell’s sister, Asia Banks interfered and started pushing cops after they stopped her brother for having an open bottle of Hennessy cognac.
Banks, 38, then started to resist and began pushing officers, at one point reaching for a female officer’s gun in her holster, cops said.
The video shows Banks grabbing the hands of the officer as she places her hand over her weapon.

Medford, MA Gentleman Sentenced To Prison For Counterfiet Transit Cards

Casey Kolenda, 28, pleaded guilty today in Middlesex Superior Court to seven counts of counterfeiting and was sentenced to three years in state prison, Healey said.

The investigation in Kolenda revealed that he “orchestrated a scheme to fraudulently create counterfeit $70 monthly MBTA subway and bus passes, known as ‘LinkPasses,’ between October 2013 and March 2014,” the announcement read. “The electronic data stored on the LinkPass magnetic strip e was copied using a magnetic stripe reader, also known as a ‘skimmer.’ That data was then downloaded onto the magnetic stripes of hundreds of MBTA stored-value cards that were purchased for as little as five cents at ticket kiosks.”
The MBTA estimates that Kolenda is responsible for more than 60 counterfeit MBTA passes in circulation from October 2013 to March 2014 — investigators estimate that the lost revenue attributable to the counterfeit tickets made and sold by Kolenda was in excess of $225,000.
