Digital Amnesia Spreading Among Young And Old

The research findings
The results reveal that the ‘Google Effect’ likely extends beyond online
facts to include important personal information.
For many people, particularly younger consumers, connected devices
have become not just the primary source of knowledge, but the
default storage space for their most important personal information,
including contacts and imagesiii. Around half of smartphone-owning
16 to 44 year olds surveyed for the study admit that their phone holds
almost everything they need to know or recall.
The study findings show that the majority of these digital consumers
strongly depend on devices and the Internet as an extension of their
brain; and suggest a direct link between data available at the click of
a button and a failure to commit that data to memory.
Kaspersky Lab has termed this phenomenon Digital Amnesia: the
experience of forgetting information that you trust a digital device to
store and remember for you.
The study found evidence of Digital Amnesia equally among both
men and women and across all age groups. Contrary to general
perception, it is surprisingly prevalent among older respondents.
For example, respondents aged 45 and older are more likely to head
straight for the Internet for the answer to a question, and write the
fact down or choose to forget an online fact once they’ve used it on
the assumption that it will always be out there somewhere. The data is
discussed in more detail below.

Facts Unnecessary When Journalists Raise The Alarm

Ann Coulter does not understand that the facts do not matter. What matters is there is a problem. Getting media attention is a way to get the problem discussed. Facts are secondary if even that. They do not matter at all.

[From article]
Evidently, the sole function of the media these days is to subject the public to a steady stream of manufactured events: “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot”; nuclear power kills; Lena Dunham’s rape by a college conservative at Oberlin; the “mattress girl” raped at Columbia University; Jon Stewart is funny; a fraternity gang-rape at the University of Virginia; and a law protecting religious freedom will lead to separate water fountains for gays in Indiana.
[. . .]
The whole country has to keep being dragged through these liberal hate campaigns, but as soon as the precipitating event turns out to be a gigantic hoax, the truth is revealed like a bedtime story being read to a child: The ending is whispered and the narrator tiptoes out of the room.
Here’s a time-saver: Whenever one of these conscience-shocking stories is promoted to front-page status by The New York Times and involves:
– police brutality;
– the environment;
– a campus rape; or
– gays;
… you can be pretty confident it’s a hoax. As the saying goes, it didn’t happen until it’s reported by The New York Times, and not even then.
[. . .]
Do not assume that because liberals are in an absolute panic over Indiana’s law, they must have a point. To the contrary, the more hysterical they are, the more you should assume the whole story is a sham.
[. . .]
Believing there’s a monster under the bed is cute. Falsely accusing cops of murder, men of rape and an entire state of homophobia is not.
[. . .]
The definition of “liberal” is quickly becoming: people who believe their fantasies should be facts.

White House Can't Get Used To Facts, A Foreign Notion

[From article]
Perhaps the most telling aspect of President Obama's inability to deal with reality is in ignoring facts when he gives a speech. He is a political animal, so enslaved to his ideology that he sees facts as irrelevant to his goal, the furthering of that ideology.
[. . .]
Ideology is a real enemy. "Facts are sticky things." It would be nice of the academics and spin doctors would remember that the correct word for this level of "spin" is propaganda.

Liberals Prefer Propaganda To Facts

[From article]
Will also questioned the numbers being put about by Joe Biden and the Department of Justice -- that one in five women on American college campuses are the victims of sexual assault:
The administration’s crucial and contradictory statistics are validated the usual way, by official repetition; Joe Biden has been heard from. The statistics are: One in five women is sexually assaulted while in college, and only 12 percent of assaults are reported. Simple arithmetic demonstrates that if the 12 percent reporting rate is correct, the 20 percent assault rate is preposterous. Mark Perry of the American Enterprise Institute notes, for example, that in the four years 2009 to 2012 there were 98 reported sexual assaults at Ohio State. That would be 12 percent of 817 total out of a female student population of approximately 28,000, for a sexual assault rate of approximately 2.9 percent — too high but nowhere near 20 percent.
[. . .]
Many readers on the Huffpost’s comment board called Will a variety of obscenities, suggested that he himself should be raped, and even claimed that the Wapo has devolved into a right-wing propaganda machine on par with FOX News (if you can believe that).

Facts About Mass Murderers

[From article]
First of all, of the ten worst mass murderers in American history, only 3 of them -- Seung-Hui Cho, Adam Lanza, and George Hennard -- used guns as their primary means of killing.
Of the four worst American murderers, Gary Ridgway (71+ victims), Andrew Philip Kehoe (44 victims), Ted Bundy (36+ victims), and John Wayne Gacy (34+ victims), none of them used guns to kill. Ridgway and Gacy strangled their victims. Bundy strangled, bludgeoned, and drowned his victims. Kehoe used bombs to kill his victims -- mostly school children ages 7-12.
[. . .]
Instead of guns, the most common elements of the worst among us are broken homes and sexual deviancy. One reason liberals can’t stand to hear such information is that it defies a government solution. The left would much rather rant against firearms and seek legislation to restrict them.
Additionally, liberals in the United States have been complicit in the breakdown of the family and the spread of sexual immorality. Whether divorce, fornication, marriage, prostitution, pornography, homosexuality, and so on, for decades now, in the name of “sexual freedom,” liberals have called what is evil good, and what is good evil. They have preached, promoted, and even passed legislation in defense of these “values.”

Facts With Humor Helps The Medicine Go Down

John Crudele keeps his sense of humor while telling it like it is. Why is that unusual in current public discourse? Are all those elite college grads with exquisite credentials, loved by Barry Obama so lacking in common sense and sense of humor?

[From article]
"Tim Geithner already used trick accounting a couple of months ago when he started borrowing from government workers' pension funds.
[. . .]
First, nothing that's being done in Washington right now will help the economy grow.
[. . .]
the ultimate result will be an economy growing slower than it currently is and more people unemployed.
[. . .]
If there is no agreement soon or Washington looks incompetent (a line that we've probably already passed) interest rates will likely rise, maybe swiftly, and stock prices are going to fall. Those are the market realities."

Feelings Rule Research at MIT

How likely is it that the NY Times, the LA Times or the WaPo will put this story on the front page? Facts are trumped by propaganda in lame stream media outlets. Feelings are more important than facts. Look at what is done every day in classrooms in the name of education.

Are Correct Questions Being Asked?

Why do police withold the BAC of the officer who was riding on the hood of the car? Why didn't the driver let him inside? Are police trained to ride on hoods of cars? Why was this officer carrying a loaded weapon while riding on the hood? Is that part of their training? Was the car an automatic or a stick shift?
