Private Citizens Stand Guard Protecting Ferguson, MO Civilians

Members of the Oath Keepers walk with their personal weapons on the street during protests in Ferguson, Missouri August 11, 2015. Police in riot gear clashed with protesters who had gathered in the streets of Ferguson early on Tuesday to mark the anniversary of the police shooting of an unarmed black teen whose death sparked a national outcry over race relations. Four white men carrying military-style rifles and sidearms added a disquieting element to riot-torn Ferguson, Missouri, when they began patrolling the streets before dawn on Tuesday, which police quickly labeled "inflammatory."
The men said they were part of a group called "Oath Keepers," which describes itself as a non-partisan association of current and former U.S. soldiers, police and first responders who aim to protect the U.S. Constitution. They told reporters on the street that they were in Ferguson to protect a media organization.
The men attracted immediate attention in the mostly black neighborhood, which exploded into violence on Sunday night as protesters marked the one-year anniversary of the killing of an unarmed black teen by police.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, a non-profit civil rights organization, has described the "Oath Keepers" as a "fiercely anti-government, militaristic group," and St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar condemned their appearance in Ferguson.

Legal Analysis Of Clinton Email Issue By A Liberal Supporter

[From article]
Important Point 5 And thus, the worry. SOS Clinton, when she left office, failed to turn over official records of the United States for almost 2 years. We know this because she now has, belatedly, turned over 55,000 pages of records to the State Department. Assume that the failure to turn over the documents was an accident -- doesn't matter, per the regs, she is still subject to criminal prosecution, and 18 USC 641 is broad enough to encompass even accidental retention. Worse still, it was unlawful for her to remove the documents from the state department or to "conceal" them on her server and not turn them over. She could be arrested, forfeit office, and be disqualified from holding any office under the United States....forever.*
So, that is my legal analysis. I leave it to the audience to tell me how wrong I am....but please, everyone, stop pretending that failing to turn over records when she left office was not a big deal for HRC.

Cambridge MA Citizens Sue to Stop Development of Former Courthouse

Former Cambridge Courthouse (left), Proposed Development (right)

This is another example of misguided development in Cambridge. The site of the new Cambridge library is on land given to the city for a library and museum. But the City Council approved building the massive high school on the land contrary to the stated purpose in the gift. Now developers are determined to keep the courthouse eyesore as is. Glad to see some dedicated citizens willing to bring a legal action to try to stop it.

[From article]
The two lawsuits [. . .] contest the Planning Board’s Sept. 30 decision to grant the special permit on grounds that the building, which was once owned by the state, no longer conforms to building height and density limits now that is it is owned by a private developer.
[. . .]
“The First Street Garage is substantially full on any given weekday – there are five levels of parking and four of them are full by 10 a.m. There is simply not enough vacant parking spots to accommodate the 420 parking spaces needed for this project, unless existing tenants (like myself) are evicted,” Hill said, adding the proposal also lacks an adequate plan to manage traffic, which is often backed up at the intersections surrounding the courthouse on weekdays.
[. . .]
Leggat McCall executive vice president Robert Dickey said the Planning Board solicited and received legal advice from the city’s law department on whether the proposal classified as a legal non-conforming structure, and the law department said it was.

Humpty Dumpty Help Agency

Humpty Dumpty Help Agency

There is no end to the curiosities when dealing with local government help agencies. The owner of Good Enough to Eat is told "that 311 only helps private citizens." Oh is Good Enough a government agency with a city pension? Then the author suggests an advocacy office "to ensure that no business in New York closes needlessly." Huh? Does the Office of Public Advocate also only deal with um private citizens?
