Is Tax Exempt Harvard University Status Used For Political Activity Contrary to Local, State and US Tax Laws?

Remarkable, the kind of ethics promoted at the Safra Center. First founder and law professor Larry Lessig used the center and Harvard's tax exemption for political activity running his own campaign. Now this professor at the ethics center maybe also used her equipment, Harvard University email, computer, word processor, to conduct political activity in violation of US tax laws. See e.g., "Currently, the law prohibits political campaign activity by charities and churches by defining a 501(c)(3) organization as one 'which does not participate in, or intervene in (including the publishing or distributing of statements), any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office.'" If true it is a recurring example of abuse of state, local and US tax privileges by Harvard University ethicists in violation of the university's tax exemption. Maybe someone should show back bone and see how many other abuses there are by the Harvard ethicists and the unethical ones.

Cambridge State Rep. Tim Toomey Laments Income and Tax Gap

Cambridge City Councilor and State Rep. Timothy Toomey

Jesus said, "To whom much is given much will be required" Does this parable apply to the not for profit Harvard University corporation? Unmentioned is the influence of public employee unions and Harvard University on (if not dictating) state policy. That includes but is not limited to tax laws.

Harvard Crimson Shows Support For Troubled Law School Ethics Professor's Presidential Campaign

Good citation of credentials certifying that Professor of Ethics "On Leave" Lessig is a bona fide member of the beautiful elite people. That provides him with an exemption from inconvenient laws, and from rectitude. Harvard University, his employer, enjoys property and income tax exemptions, from the City of Cambridge, the state of Massachusetts and the United States government. Prof. Lessig wants to be President so he can as Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution requires, the President to “take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.” He asserts his motivation is to end campaign finance corruption of elections or something. The IRS tax code and US Department of the Treasury laws strictly prohibit tax exempt corporations from conducting political activity using its not for profit corporate status. Professor of Ethics at the Safra Center, Mr. Lessig, uses his office for his campaign, an example of "political activity," as defined in the laws. State and city exemptions follow US standards, which means he may be violating those exemption criteria too.

Not to worry, Harvard University, a tax exempt corporation (charity, Ahem!) operating as a not for profit educational institution, has an endowment of $37 billion. Whatchu gonna do about it? Huh? The IRS selectively enforces laws against conservative not for profits. Harvard University a vigorous promoter of academics who approve of violence against white people, a vigorous supporter of diversity has no need to worry. The IRS will overlook any of their violations. So too will the Cambridge City government, which is in awe of the university. Likewise for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, which is likely run by a Harvard University alumni, like the current and previous governors. If you are one of the beautiful people, and are largely endowed you too can ignore laws if they are a bother. Cheers.

Will Huma Abedin Suffer Al Capone's Fate?

[From article]
They got Al Capone for tax evasion, and they may get Huma Abedin for “violating rules regarding vacation and sick leave” and for the “possible exchange of unsecured, classified data.” To be sure, these are serious charges, and the available evidence makes it abundantly clear that there is ample warrant to investigate and perhaps even charge Abedin. However, it is a sign of a serious problem with today’s political culture that even more serious allegations regarding Abedin have never been investigated, and almost certainly never will be.
Huma Abedin’s Muslim Brotherhood connections have been fully exposed by Andrew McCarthy and bruited about for years. The facts are quite public, albeit largely ignored: Abedin’s parents are both members of the Muslim Brotherhood, but her links to the organization are not just familial. Abedin was for twelve years the assistant editor of the Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs (JMMA), which was founded by Abdullah Omar Naseef, a Muslim Brotherhood operative and al-Qaeda financier. Naseef and Abedin both appeared on the JMMA’s masthead from 1996 to 2003.
[. . .]
Everyone acknowledges that Abedin and Clinton are extremely close, and that Abedin controls access to Clinton and has tremendous influence over her.
[. . .]
That few people care about those connections, and that those who do are dismissed as “far-Right bigots,” shows how myopic and foolish our contemporary political culture is. If Huma Abedin had a hand in the pro-Muslim Brotherhood tilt of the Obama/Clinton State Department, that would be a far graver offense than anything she is accused of now, just as old Capone was guilty of far greater crimes than tax evasion.

MSNBC Hosts Owe Taxes, Want Others To Pay, But Not Them

[From article]
And he’s just one of the network’s four tax scofflaws TourĂ© Neblett, co-host of MSNBC’s The Cycle, owes more than $59,000 in taxes, according to public records reviewed by National Review. In September 2013, New York issued a state tax warrant to Neblett and his wife, Rita Nakouzi, for $46,862.68. Six months later, the state issued an additional warrant to the couple for $12,849.87. In January 2014, Neblett tweeted, “Regressive taxation & tax-avoidance & union crushing & the financial corruption of legislation has fueled inequality more than hard work.” In 2012, he also criticized Republican politicians, saying they were “all afraid to vote for a modest tax increase of people who can totally afford it.”
MSNBC’s hosts and guests regularly call for higher taxes on the rich, condemning wealthy individuals and corporations who don’t pay their taxes or make use of loopholes. But recent reports, as well as records reviewed by National Review, show that at least four high-profile MSNBC on-air personalities have tax liens or warrants filed against them.

Prominent Boston Lawyer Jeffrey Denner Owes IRS $2.7M In Taxes, Penalties

Jeffrey Denner

This attorney sounds like he shares Al "The FBI Loves Me" Sharpton's attitude toward taxes. One joke is that it is better to owe it to you than to cheat you out of it. Is that what he believes?

[From article]
Famed Hub lawyer Jeffrey Denner was sued in federal civil court yesterday for failure to pay $2.7 million in taxes and penalties, dating back to 2002, according to court filings.
The complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Boston states Denner is liable for federal income tax for seven years dating back to 2002 for a total of $2.7 million.
But Denner’s tax lawyer Bill Greenberg said the lawsuit is purely an administrative tool that the Internal Revenue Service is using to keep its claim to taxes from the early 2000s, which otherwise runs out after 10 years. He said the actual amount is much less.
Greenberg said this is a debt that Denner has been working to pay down for years. He said the original bill stems from 2003, when Denner suffered an aneurysm followed by an infection and nearly died. He said Denner spent two years recovering from his illness and could not pay his taxes during that time.

NYC Mayor Makes High Cost of Living Higher

[From article]
A recent New York Times story, summing up research on urban income differences, noted that income inequality “is closely tied with the availability of affordable housing.” Places where housing becomes very expensive, the report observed, tend to hemorrhage middle-class residents and instead become communities made up primarily of the rich, who can afford stratospheric housing prices, and the poor, who can get government housing subsidies.
[. . .]
Average pay in Manhattan for a financial-services job is now $246,000 annually; in New Jersey, the securities industry is more of an upper-middle-income business, with average pay at $97,600 annually.
[. . .]
A recent World Bank report noted that a would-be entrepreneur needs to obtain six permits, on average, to start a new venture in the United States (compared with just one in business-friendly New Zealand). But according to NYC Business Express, he’d need ten—six local and four from the state—to open, say, a simple office-supply business in the city.
[. . .]
city officials fought among themselves and with neighborhood business groups over plans by the Pathmark supermarket chain to open an outlet in East Harlem, which had lacked a major supermarket since the 1960s, despite the $3 billion or so annually that its residents spent on food. That Pathmark couldn’t open “as-of-right”—that it needed to win the support of politicians before it could operate—illustrates why New York, one of America’s densest cities, is still underserved in key business categories such as food retailing. A 2009 study by the Bloomberg administration estimated that New York needed 100 more supermarkets to serve its residents adequately and was losing $1 billion in sales a year as shoppers left the city to buy food.
[. . .]
Mayor de Blasio’s policies will only make New York more expensive and unequal.
[. . .]
the city’s new progressive coalition of city council members, most with zero private-sector experience,
[. . .]
council members have so little regard for businesses—especially small minority operators
[. . .]
The city should lower its regressive local-sales levy
[. . .]
What de Blasio doesn’t seem to recall is that the Charles Dickens novel he invokes is foremost a tale about the damage that a coercive government does to its own people.

Proposal To Eliminate Corporate Income Taxes

[From article]
the 35 percent U.S. corporate income tax.
Britain’s corporate income tax is 20 percent, and Pfizer stands to save over $1 billion a year by moving there.
In what are called “inversions,” dozens of U.S. companies have bought up foreign rivals, and then moved abroad to countries with lower tax rates, cutting revenue to the U.S. Treasury.
But Pfizer is far and away the biggest.
[. . .]
How could we make up for the lost revenue to government?
Simple. The corporate income tax last year produced $273 billion, less than a tenth of federal revenue. Imports, which kill U.S. jobs and subtract from GDP, totaled $2.7 trillion last year.
Put a 10 percent tariff on imports, and the abolition of the U.S. corporate income tax becomes a revenue-neutral proposal.
[. . .]
Two decades ago, Ross Perot and this writer joined Ralph and the head of the AFL-CIO to stop NAFTA, a trade deal backed by America’s corporate elite and its army of mercenaries on Capitol Hill.
Congress voted with corporate America — against the country.
Result: 20 years of the largest trade deficits in U.S. history. Transnational corporations have prospered beyond the dreams of avarice, as Middle America has seen its wages frozen for a generation.
[. . .]
For America never voted for NAFTA, GATT, the WTO, mass immigration, amnesty, or more H-1Bs to come take the jobs of our workers. These votes have been forced upon members of Congress by leaders carrying out their assignments from corporate America and its PACs, which reward the compliant with campaign checks.
Both parties now feed at the same K Street and Wall Street troughs. Both have oligarchs contributing tens of millions to parties and politicians who do their bidding.

Economic Freedom a Myth

[From article]
"Every president in the 20th century, even Ronald Reagan, signed legislation raising income taxes. The theory behind the income tax is that the government's need for cash is so great, it can just take it from your employer after you earn it but before your employer pays you -- before you even see the cash -- and use it as it sees fit. This presumes that the federal government has a greater right to your income than you do. There really can be no rationale for income taxes without that belief.
Do you know anyone outside the government who believes this?"

Negative Campaigning, Scare Tactics

Negative Campaigning, Scare Tactics

This letter is negative campaigning using scare tactics. Are these all Obama supporters? Shocking to find four in Cambridge, the home of the right-wing conspiracy. The usual suspects oppose question one. Those who get the most from taxpayer funds. The Biotech industry already got its $1 billion. The CEOs of the many Human Services Industrial Complex non profits earn their $300,000 per plus benefits. How many psychiatrists and psychologists earn six figure incomes predicting the future and pushing toxic chemicals on children and other vulnerable people using the taxpayer's dime? How many more ancillary employees of the public schools, who contribute not-so-much to teaching and learning of students are needed?
