Cambridge Fire Department Saves MIT Dorm, No Injuries

A fire broke out this Tuesday afternoon on the roof of Random Hall dormitory at 282 Mass. Ave. on the MIT campus, forcing an evacuation of the building. No injuries were reported in the two-alarm fire, and by 3:35 p.m. firefighters had knocked it down, according to safety officials.
Massachusetts Avenue between Albany and Sidney streets was closed for some time, which caused heavy traffic, according to police.
Random Hall is MIT's smallest dormitory, providing housing for 93 residents.

The fire was located on the roof on Random Hall on Mass. Ave.
The Cambridge Fire Department responded to the scene.
Residents were evacuated.
No injuries have been reported.

Cambridge, MA Firemen Save Woman Trapped After Accident

Cambridge, MA firemen saved an elder woman trapped in her car which crashed on Kirkland Street, Cambridge, at about 5:45 PM on Thursday, May 26, 2016. I did not see the accident but was walking along Kirkland Street as the emergency vehicles were still arriving. Several firemen worked to extract the woman from her car. One fireman actually climbed into the car to free her. She was alert and talking to emergency responders as they strapped her onto a gurney to take her to a hospital. Her car was upside down, and badly damaged, having turned over after the accident. Another vehicle showed damage in the rear from the collision. That driver did not appear to be injured as he spoke with police officers.



Police interviewed witnesses as I left at about 6:15 PM. I do not have images or video. Some bystanders were capturing video on their cell phones. One woman was capturing still images with a camera. Cambridge firemen exhibited their excellent training and preparations. They had the special services vehicle, and four other pieces of equipment on scene. They used iron tools to pry open the doors. They also had available a metal saw, but it was not needed. The woman was freed before they were able to saw off either door. Cambridge police were placed strategically at adjacent streets keeping non essential traffic away. One ambulance was at the scene near the overturned car. EMS workers stood by until, the woman was freed and placed her on the gurney.

Christmas came early this year for Jeremy Collins, a Cambridge firefighter who won the $1-million-dollar prize on the television game show, “Survivor, Second Chance” on Dec. 16.
This was the second go-around for Collins, who previously competed on the 29th season of “Survivor: San Juan Del Sur—Blood vs. Water” in 2014. Collins competed with his wife of 10 years, Val, but both were eliminated and didn’t reach the finals that year.
But that wasn’t the case this time around, as Collins made it all the way with fellow finalists Tasha Fox and Spencer Bledsoe.
In the final episode the trio went before a jury of 10 contestants who were previously voted off during the game. In the end, all 10 jury members voted for Collins, according to show host Jeff Probst.

At about 9:45 PM I learned that the reason there were no police directing traffic during the fire emergency, was that the emergency fire dispatcher forgot to tell the emergency police dispatcher, who sit about three feet from each other.  Firemen from neighboring communities joined in supporting the four-alarm fire. I only know that Brookline was one of them. At about 9:45 PM traffic was diverted from Mass Avenue both north and south. Traffic on Cambridge Street eastbound was stopped due to traffic coming from Harvard Square diverted onto Cambridge Street.

On its 11 o'clock news, WBZ-TV reported the building was at "1616 Mass Avenue between Everett [Street] and Waterhouse [Street]." They got it wrong.

Fire in Large Cambridge Apartment Building

The large apartment building at 1610 Massachusetts Avenue and Chauncey Street in Cambridge is surrounded by firemen and equipment. There is a problem with frozen hydrants. Traffic in the area is snarled as far as Concord Avenue. When I passed the site about fifteen minutes ago (7:40 PM) there were no policemen directing traffic. At least one Cambridge police detective was on site. Firemen tried to help fire trucks get into place. One ladder extended to the roof of the building and one firemen went onto the roof. There was smoke in the air. Many people remained in their apartments. They could be seen looking out of their windows. Students from Harvard Law School across Mass Avenue were standing on the corner gawking. I asked some of the law studnet of they would "give back," or do some public service by directing traffic. No one volunteered. Equipment on scene were from Engine and Ladder 1, 2, 5 and 6.

Cambridge Fire Department Saves Hundreds of Millions of Dollars of Art at Harvard University

Cambridge MA Fire Department responded to the new Harvard University Art Museum, about 100 feet from the fire headquarters, to save hundreds of millions of dollars worth of art. Though the city was in the middle of clearing snow from the previous day, the department was able to act in time. These images were captured at about 3:30 PM on Tuesday February 3, 2015.

Former Cambridge Fire Chief, Dies at 88

Cambridge native Thomas Scott was born to serve his city. After working for the Cambridge Fire Department for 40 years, the last nine of which he was chief of the department, Scott died on March 11, at the age of 88.

"They talk about the brotherhood of firefighters and what that means," Scott Jr. said. "We can testify to that growing up because it was a very close-knit group that always did things together."

In many ways, Scott Jr. said his father embodied the values of The Greatest Generation, putting family above all else, taking pride in his work, and honoring his country through service. He got along with people who worked hard and dedicated themselves to their craft, and didn’t suffer fools lightly, Scott Jr. said.

Haters Have No Rights


If the church is 'toxic' will the Hazardous Waste Squad of the Fire Department require a permit? The Mayor exposed them as haters who do not have any rights. The loving Democrats in the Conformist City should hate them back, and deny them their right to speech, their right assemble, the right to petition and their right redress. The First Amendment excludes haters. This church has no right to demonstrate and no right to believe. They are haters. Democrats are lovers and believe in inclusion. These haters must be excluded! If not they may elect the entire city council and take control of the state legislature. They are growing so fast they are becoming a public menace. Give the students the day off to confront these haters by yelling at them, 'You are haters. You are haters!' That would be a great civics lesson in how the Conformist Party works. This church is the cause of poverty, the fighting in Gaza, and the devastation of the rain forest too, and the failing banking system.
