Career Boston Criminal Admits Theft Of Church Funds
[From article]
A former Boston church official who claimed to be a leg-breaker for notorious mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger pleaded guilty yesterday in federal court to stealing financial assets from the Boston Society of the New Jerusalem Church.
Edward J. MacKenzie Jr., 56, pleaded guilty to 13 federal charges — including RICO conspiracy, mail fraud, wire fraud and money laundering.

MacKenzie admitted that his goal was to gain control of the church so that he and his co-conspirators could defraud the institution of its financial holdings. MacKenzie cost the church millions of dollars, according to authorities.
MacKenzie claimed in an autobiography that he was hired muscle for Bulger. His book, “Street Soldier: My Life as an Enforcer for Whitey Bulger and the Boston Irish Mob,” was published in 2004.
