Bookie Friend of James "Whitey" Bulger Dies

But as a close pal of Martorano’s, O’Brien was one of the few major bookies who actually could ask for an occasional favor from Whitey and Stevie. One time, he testified, he brought one of his deadbeat bookies to the garage on Lancaster Street. The guy admitted to Whitey that O’Brien was a great boss but said he wanted to build a second business for himself. Whitey smiled and told the wayward bookie, you know we have a second business, too.
What business is that? O’Brien’s guy asked.
“Killing bleeps like you,” Whitey replied.
