Politicians, Journalists Clueless or Propagandists?

One perspective seldom mentioned is that the politicians are active or passive participants in promoting propaganda. The Communists used to call people like that "useful idiots." Do any elected officials meet that definition?

“I want to know why,” Davis told the Herald yesterday. “I truly want to know to what end someone would kill two women and a little boy. I understand the theory behind terror, but they didn’t really terrorize us.”
