Kadzis Interviews Harvey Silverglate
Peter Kadzis states a premise: "We have an independent judiciary." Harvey Silverglate says, "an enormous number of judges have been co-opted by federal prosecutors." My questions: "Is it only federal prosecutors who co-opt judges? What influence do prominent private attorneys have? What about law school classmates and lobbyists?"
Rather than being independent, judges are often slaves to expert witnesses and to government prosecutions which judges believe make good policy. Silverglate calls it "playing the lackey."
They both agree that plea bargaining thwarts the protection of trial by jury replacing it with "justice by coercion" which they call "white-collar extortion."
Silverglate says, liberalism changed from defending "free speech and due process." to endorsing "censorship in the name of avoiding harassment for what they call historically disadvantaged groups." But only "some historically disadvantaged groups."
It is still acceptable to denigrate old people, persons with disabilities, Mormons, Catholics, and poor white men.
