FBI Informant Self Diagnosed Mental Illness
Matt Damon plays an FBI informant (Mark Whitacre, The Informant) who exposed a price fixing scheme at Archer Daniels Midland an giant agricultural corporation. He stole $9 million in kickbacks and went to jail. He self diagnosed his "bipolar disorder" which he claimed
"contributed to his irregular behavior." Here is an example of illogical claims regarding psychiatry which are accepted by journalists and reported as fact. Mental illnesses are created by consensus. They describe non conformist speech and behavior no pathology. This "reasoning" allows abusive psychiatrists like E. Fuller Torrey to demonize persons accused of mental illness.
