Futures Speculation & Oil Prices
"The price of the fuel you buy -- gasoline, heating oil etc. -- is dictated by the equivalent prices on Wall Street. When futures contracts for energy products climb, the cost of the underlying fuel in the real world rises. That's what we saw last year when Wall Street speculators -- purely for selfish reasons -- pushed up the price of futures contracts."
