Lawyers Testify on Diagnoses
Here again prosecutors make psychiatric diagnoses. Who needs psychiatrists? Lawyers never exaggerate, or deceive.

"This defendant has serious psychiatric issues," Kaminsky told the judge. "He has been diagnosed in the past with psychosis."

Governors and Bubbles
[From article]
"Governors move about in a bubble. From home to car to statehouse to plane, from ribbon-cutting to banquet to car to home, they are cushioned in a space built by bustling aides and scary-looking troopers in buzz cuts and plain clothes. In the bubble the governor is king, pasha of his own status-sphere, a singular figure of unchallengeable importance. There’s no one else quite like him in Helena or Jefferson City or Columbus.
And then the bubble transports him to somewhere like the Republican Governors Association conference, held last month at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. The bubble encounters other bubbles. Awkwardness and disorientation ensue. At the Hilton’s VIP entrance the black SUVs nosed one another to get closer to the red carpet so the pashas could be disgorged. Troopers eyed other troopers and whispered darkly into cuff links. Advance men fidgeted, as they always do, indifferent to all pashas but their own, trying to pick one governor’s luggage from a great dogpile of gubernatorial luggage. At the elevator banks and escalators, in the lobbies and meeting rooms, it was the same: a collision of status-spheres, a paralyzing standoff."

"The fat cats don't need the protection of property rights, because they already control the political system. It's the little guy (or gal), the one without political juice, who needs strong property rights for protection from the fat cats and the politicians they control.

the more power you give to politicians and their cronies, the less incentive people have to try to succeed through hard work. What's the point, if you're at the mercy of the cronies?

Harvard Students Are Victims
“People are forgetting that hate crimes really do make people feel vulnerable and targeted, and what the response has to do is make that targeted population feel comfortable and safe again,” a student says. When campus police join in attacking a vulnerable victim as HUPD does to persons with disabilities, where does one go? Where do victims of love crimes go?
"According to Kevin Bryant, HUPD’s diversity and community liaison, the police department uses the Massachusetts General Law on Interference with Civil Rights to investigate acts of bias," What state law does HUPD use when their own officers abuse vulnerable persons with disabilities? Is it the law of "See no evil; hear no evil, speak no evil?"
Laura Snowdon, dean of students at the Graduate School of Design says, “We have zero tolerance for any hostile behavior toward any student or any group of students because of their identity or perceived identity.” Except (she did not add) persons with disabilities who are always acceptable targets for police, students and administrators.
Recent Crimson article about discrimination against Harvard and Yale students having their private party ended early, and now egregious irreparable harms to homosexuals makes one anticipate an article about how women are denied academic advancement at Harvard. How those Harvard students and faculty suffer. Where is the District Attorney and the Attorneys General when you need them?

Lawyer Undermines Rule of Law
What is truly amazing about this case is how the lawyer for the parents of the young man who was shot by police continues to make his case in the media. Journalists are notoriously ignorant of law. Is that why he prefers that forum to the courts? But the lawyers' questioning of evidence of the young man's blood alcohol content is hilarious. It is an argument I make about the beliefs promoted by journalists about the infallibility of DNA evidence. The same people who keep fingerprint evidence keep DNA evidence. If the police cannot be trusted with evidence why believe any other case with physical evidence? This lawyer is undermining the entire criminal justice apparatus.
