Mike Royko, No Nonsense Journalist

[From article]
The late Mike Royko -- a columnist in Chicago for many decades -- warned young reporters against hobnobbing with politicians because it might compromise their objectivity. As he noted, “[i]f you get too close, then you’re going to feel uncomfortable when you have to stick it to them.” Unhappily, contemporary media personalities such as The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart, along with most of the press, seem to be unaware of Royko’s wisdom.
[. . .]
(Young people are the least politically knowledgeable segment of the populace.) Now, after revelations that he secretly met Obama in the White House, and especially since Obama’s most recent appearance on his show, Stewart is not credible when it comes to speaking truth to left-wing Democrats in power.

[. . .]
Not only do many media denizens routinely associate with the ruling class at work and at play, it is no longer rare for a journalist’s significant-other and/or relative to be a key government official. The presidents of CBS News and ABC News, for example, have siblings who are major players in Obama’s administration. In 2013, CNN’s deputy bureau chief, Virginia Mosley, was married to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s deputy, Tom Nides. One also thinks of instances in which a former key member of a Democrat administration -- such as George Stephanopoulos -- becomes a TV anchor at ABC News. (I originally wrote that Stephanopoulos “changed careers” to join ABC News, but after remembering that he donated at least $75,000 to the Clinton family foundation, I decided he hadn’t “changed careers” after all.) Other former political operatives may not work in the media, but they hold prominent positions in major J-schools.
[. . .]

Today the connections between the media and the ruling class are so close that it is virtually impossible to separate them.
[. . .]
media personalities and the ruling class tend to come from the same socio-economic background, and to attend the same schools and colleges/universities.
[. . .]

Samuel Clemens, a.k.a. Mark Twain, for example, perhaps the most famous journalist of the late 19th century, dropped out of school after the 5th grade.
Perhaps the best-known American journalist of the first half of the 20th century was H. L. Mencken, a.k.a. “the Sage of Baltimore.” Mencken graduated from a mathematics, technology, and science-oriented high school, and took a correspondence class or two in journalism from Cosmopolitan University. Beyond that, Mencken learned journalism on the job.
[. . .]
Virtually all members of today’s media are college/university graduates
[. . .]
a large portion of those working in the media have, at worst, upper-middle-class backgrounds, and thus have little or nothing in common with America’s “common” men and women.
More important, given their socioeconomic background, and the locales in which they live and work, today’s media personalities have much in common with our ruling class.

Contrary to Spineless Network Television Talking Heads Broadcasting Propaganda

Flaherty deserves a bravery award for being able to listen to the Sunday television talk shows. They are all getting to be like PBS, one sided propaganda all the time. Watching this video clip reminded me of William F. Buckley's observation about liberals and other opinions. These pundits say they want conversations. But they just want everyone to agree with what they say.

That of course is not true.

Middle East Terror Group Has Its Own Social Network. Is That How They Recruit?

Khelafabook Isis supporters have set up their own social network, Khelafabook, though the site looked amateur and has broken since it was discovered. The site claimed to be set up to allow Isis and its supporters to communicate each other in the face of bans from social networks like Twitter and Facebook. Twitter especially has become a battleground for propaganda — with the network acting to shut down many of the 90,000 accounts the group is thought to have set up, but not being able to stop the spread of Isis messages entirely. Khelafabook had the appearance of a normal social network, but had a photograph of the world with Isis logos posted over its countries as its background. It appeared to have been built on a platform called SocialKit, which anyone can download and use to make social networks of their own.

Television Networks Continue to Keep Voters and Taxpayers Un-Informed

[From article]
On Tuesday evening, NBC’s evening newscast acknowledged the name Jonathan Gruber for the first time and his insulting comments regarding ObamaCare a full 32 days after the group American Commitment unearthed the first Gruber video on November 7.
[. . .]
Williams began the 2-minute-and-12-second segment by remarking that “it is unlikely that most Americans have heard the name Jonathan Gruber until a few weeks ago, when a video emerged of him insulting their intelligence.” His statement can be viewed as rather ironic, considering the fact that the viewers of his own program were kept in the dark on the ObamaCare architect, depriving them knowledge of the story until now.
[. . .]
While NBC Nightly News ended its silence on Gruber, the same cannot be said for NBC’s Spanish-language counterpart and fellow NBC Universal network Telemundo. Its evening newscast, Noticiero Telemundo, made no mention of Gruber appearing before Congress on Tuesday. Further, the program has yet to even mention Gruber and any of his unprofessional remarks.

CBS Sports Refuses Ad of School Children Pledging Allegiance To Flag

This shows how depraved journalists and network executives are these days. No pledge of allegiance but they make celebrities of child abusers and women beaters. Are they the best role models or what?

[From article]
The national cable sports network rejected a 30-second television advertisement from Windermere Real Estate that shows company owner Dave Retter's adorable granddaughter delivering the pledge with her hand over her heart.
CBS Sports said the ad was "too political" to air during the network's upcoming broadcast of the Wrangler Champions Challenge rodeo.

Three TV Networks Fear Using Word "Terrorist"

[From article]
The Big Three networks steered clear of labeling the Islamist group ISIS "terrorists" on their evening newscasts on Friday. Instead, ABC's World News and CBS Evening News labeled the genocidal radicals "militants." NBC Nightly News used the more benign "rebels" in their coverage of the group's latest attacks on the Kurdish part of Iraq
[. . .]
On Thursday, the MRC's Dan Gainor pointed out that the Big Three networks have followed a similar pattern with regard to the Islamic extremist group Hamas: "ABC, CBS and NBC journalists referred to Hamas as 'militants,' 'fighters' or 'soldiers' 13 times more often than they called them 'terrorists.' (65 stories to 5 stories.)"

Television Network News Indicates Misguided Priorities

[From article]
NBC’s Today show didn’t find time to talk about the Lerner contempt vote but did bring on their chief White House correspondent Chuck Todd to talk about a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll that finds there is a greater acceptance of tattoos. Total Today show tattoo time? 4 minutes, 30 seconds.
