Sharyl Attkisson Interviewed On CBS Radio

[From interview]

SA: It’s sort of a long story, but I guess the short version is there was really nothing meaningful left for me to do. I consider my specialty to be original investigative reporting which was long valued at CBS News. But I the past couple of years for me and other reporters in the media it’s been a very hard sell.
[. . .]

SA: I think there’s a complex set of factors including maybe one of the biggest factors — the industry that has been set up in Washington, DC around a well-financed campaign involving public relations by special interests, political interests, corporate interests who have learned how to scare us off from meaningful stories. By pushback before the stories air, partnering with surrogates and bloggers, and making social media astroturf efforts afterwards, and just making it so difficult and uncomfortable afterwards that really we’d just rather avoid those kinds of stories.

Propaganda Requires a Double Standard, Hypocrisy

[From article]
Corruption, for example, is a pressing concern for many Palestinians under the rule of the Palestinian Authority, but when I and another reporter once suggested an article on the subject, we were informed by the bureau chief that Palestinian corruption was “not the story.” (Israeli corruption was, and we covered it at length.)
Israeli actions are analyzed and criticized, and every flaw in Israeli society is aggressively reported.

National Political Journalists Live In Closed Cocoon

[From article]
All of which means when the Cantor loss abruptly appeared on the radar screen, the instant question in the Clerisy media was "how could this possibly happen?" Then a mad scramble to air interviews with two talk radio hosts - Levin and Ingraham - who were well out there with vocal support for Cantor opponent Brat.
But to credit either Mark or Laura with this win is foolish. Why? Because it assumes something about the talk radio audience that simply isn't true. The audience that listens to conservative talk radio is decidedly not an audience of robots. If there are robots in this equation, they are the Clerisy journalists who are.Clerisy journalists. For all it's renown, conservative talk radio is as unfamiliar to the liberal journalists of the Clerisy as the depths beneath the surface of Mars.

NY Times Reports Regular Censorship by Obama Campaign

[From article]
the most important story broken by the New York Times in years.
What it means is this: When Americans read these reports – whether in newspapers, wire services or on the Internet – they are not really reading news stories at all. They are reading approved, pre-packaged press releases from the government and politicians. But, even worse, they are not labeled as such. They are labeled as actual news.
[...]
just last week, WND was denied credentials to cover the Democratic National Convention. Why do you suppose what has become one of the largest and most influential news agencies in the country would be denied access to the convention floor? Simply because the Democrats know we won’t play by their rules of control like the members of the establishment press club.

Internet New Democracy

[From article]
"The internet is the best thing to happen to free choice since Erasmus, the best thing to happen to democracy since John Locke, and the best thing to happen to commerce since Adam Smith. The internet is the new agora, a new market for ideas. The end of the mainstream, the mendacity monopoly, is gospel -- good news indeed!
