A man accused of stabbing a police officer after robbing a gun supply store recently became interested the Islamic terrorist movement, authorities have revealed.
"For the last couple of months he has been working out a lot and he has been visiting Islamic websites and other types of websites described to us as Jihadist in nature," Canon City Police Chief Paul Schultz said. The suspect's family said he had been making "Islamic-type statements," Schultz added.

Saturday afternoon, investigators say suspect Hudson Taylor Clark, 32, tried to steal a handgun from Victory Defense on the 2800 block of E. Main St. He ended up running off with other merchandise. When Cpl. Sanders tried to stop him a few blocks away, Clark allegedly attacked him with an 8-inch knife.
"Without saying anything, [he] stabbed Cpl. Sanders under the left arm...then continued to encroach upon him. Sanders told him to stop; he did not stop, he continued to encroach upon Sanders with the knife," Schultz said.
Sanders then shot Clark five times. Clark fell to the ground, but never lost consciousness.
"He continued make comments...next to him was the Quran, which fell out onto the ground, and during the first aid situation he did ask for the Quran," Schultz said.
Investigators said that Clark continued to smile after being shot and asked if he had in fact stabbed the officer.
