A person who sneezes while sitting in the middle of an aeroplane is likely to spread their germs throughout the whole cabin, a simulation of how sneeze particles travel through a plane shows

‘You can measure the dispersion of a sneeze up to 50ft. They really can spread a fair distance.
‘Anyone who is sitting close to an infected person will come into contact with that pathogen.’
But it will depend on factors like whether people have their vents open, he said.
However the risk of catching an infection is even higher in an office or a crowded cinema, he added.
This is because ‘in an aeroplane, the air is constantly filtered, turned over every two or three minutes.
‘The air in an office or cinema is not being filtered or exchanged.’
