An off-duty NYPD detective was injured in an assault at the 23rd Street Station in Downtown Manhattan.

The detective had been standing on the southbound platform with his cousin at around 6:30 p.m. when the cousin began “bothering” a panhandler — and the suspect interceded by punching the detective in the head, law enforcement sources told The Post.

The suspect is described as a male black in his early 40s, 5’ 10” to 6 feet tall, about 200 pounds and wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
