"The setup, according the account, went like this: Former third-base coach Herman Franks was stationed in the team's clubhouse, overlooking the field in deep center, with a telescope. Observing the opposing catcher's sign, with the press of a button he sent an electrical message via telephone to the bullpen -- one buzz for a fastball, two for an off-speed pitch. Then a reserve in the bullpen in right-center, visible from the batter's box, would gesture the pitch type to the hitter."
