Psychiatry and Crime

Prevailing attitudes toward persons accused of mental illness are outrageous. Lawyers, judges and psychiatrists treat such people abominably. Having a mental illness should not mitigate criminal liability. Amateurs and professionals use loose standards for mental illness. It is often used for personal attacks. Psychiatry is personal opinion masquerading as science. Under American jurisprudence a person cannot be guilty of a crime unless he or she did an act (actus reus) and knew that it was wrong (mens rea). What is the connection between illness and crime? It is more important whether the accused was taking any anti depressants which can cause violence. The drug industry is responsible for much violence with their psychiatrist accomplices.
