Campaign contributions are just one of the things that can be extorted. The number of spouses, children or other relatives or favorites of Congressional incumbents who get high-paying jobs in private businesses regulated by government can hardly be coincidental.
When Al Gore was Vice President during the Clinton administration, he simply phoned various special interests and told them how much he wanted them to contribute. He did not have to spell out the reasons why they should — or why they had better. They already knew from experience how the game is played.

If we paid every member of Congress a million dollars a year — for an entire century — that would add up to less than the cost of running the Department of Agriculture for one year.
Since politics attracts greedy candidates, what prevents the same kind of people from running for office and continuing to grant favors to special interests, and taking the higher salary too. The answer is  nothing. Why is there no mention of integrity and common sense?

Term Limits? Information Limits!

Paul Heroux says, "if we’re not getting what we want, we need to pay more attention to who we want." He does not discuss the aides to elected officials who often make policy decisions and do research which may restrict what the officials read. Further journalists no longer focus on keeping readers informed. They focus on promoting their own political interests. This is especially true at the Cambridge Chronicle where the current editor censors criticism of city officials and criticism of liberal causes. By limiting information media can limit choices.

PROPOSED 28th Amendment

Amendment 28 should read

Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators or Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States.

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!!

A friend sent this along to me. My friend wants to promote a "Congressional Reform Act of 2009". It would contain eight provisions.

Congress has the lowest approval of any entity in Government, now is the time when Americans SHOULD join together to reform Congress - the entity that represents us.

A Senator MUST introduce this bill in the US Senate and a Representative MUST introduce a similar bill in the US House. These people will become American heroes.

1. Term Limits: 12 years only, one of the possible options below.

A. Two Six year Senate terms
B. Six Two year House terms
C. One Six year Senate term and three Two Year House terms

This is something I believe most of us knew. But what is really important is that it was sent by a very VERY serious Democrat.
That's why the first comment. This is truly a major step.

New Math for sure but I would still take Obama/Biden over McCain/Palin or worse Bush /Cheney

I guess I must be on the wrong page
A vehicle at 15 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 800 gallons a year of gasoline.
A vehicle at 25 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 480 gallons a year.
So, the average clunker transaction will reduce US gasoline consumption by 20 gallons per year.
They claim 700,000 vehicles so that's 224 million gallons/year.
That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil.
5 million barrels of oil is about 1/4 of one days US consumption.
And, 5 million barrels of oil costs about $375 million dollars at $75/bbl.
So, we all contributed to spending $3 billion to save $375 million.
How good a deal was that???
Obamanomics at work, or is it the NEW math?
A thought: We need to start limiting all U.S. politicians to two terms:
One in office and one in prison. Illinois already has begun that plan.
