Phoenix Police Show Support For Murdered Colleague's Family

Travis' friends, which included fellow cops as well as firefighters, were there to keep his memory alive when Kaylee, 7, and Kody, 5, walked hand-in-hand with their mother Danielle to class.

[From article]
Two Arizona children got a first day of school surprise when they were greeted by dozens of Phoenix police officers - all friends of the father they lost five years ago.
Kaylee and Kody's father Travis Murphy was killed in the line of duty. Kaylee was only two-years-old and Kody born two weeks before.
But Travis' friends, which included fellow cops as well as firefighters, were there to keep his memory alive when the second-grader and kindergartner arrived at Peoria Terramar Elementary School.

Five years after Travis Murphy (pictured) was killed, the Phoenix Police Department has continued to keep the promise they made to keep Danielle, Kaylee and Kody in their extended family.

Kaylee and Kody asked their mom, 'Who are all these people, do they know daddy?', Danielle told KTAR.
She replied, 'yes, they're all Daddy's friends'.

Five years after Murphy's death, the Phoenix Police Department has continued to keep the promise they made to keep Danielle, Kaylee and Kody in their extended family, ABC 15 reported.

Danny Ledezma Martinez was found guilty last month of Murphy's murder. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Relatives of Citizens Murdered By Illegal Aliens Testify Before Congress

Laura Wilkerson, Mother of Josh, 18, Killed By Illegal Alien

[From article]
Apparently neither Mr. Todd nor his research staff ever thought to look up the government’s own 2011 report on criminal alien activity, published by the Government Accountability Office.
[. . .]
The 2011 U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) report documents crimes committed by foreign alien nationals inside the United States. It counts as an alien any immigrant who has not been “naturalized” – that is, any alien who has applied for and been conferred with citizenship after being brought into the United States from their home country. Therefore, even this report would not include the criminal offenses of the millions of immigrants inside the U.S. who have converted their green cards into citizenship papers, about 19.3 million. So, for instance, the elder Boston Bomber, the recent Chattanooga Shooter, and other immigrant terrorists naturalized by the federal government would be counted by the government as citizen crimes, not alien crimes.
The report tallies approximately 3 million arrest offenses attached to the incarcerated criminal alien population. Of these offenses, half a million were drug related, 70,000 were sexual offenses, 213,000 were for assault, 125,000 were for larceny/theft, and 25,000 were for homicides. Based on the GAO’s sample of criminal aliens, they estimated that their study population of 249,000 criminal aliens was arrested about 1.7 million times, averaging about 7 arrests per criminal alien.
By definition, not one one of these crimes would have occurred absent the immigrant who committed it
[. . .]
In 2008, Heather Mac Donald wrote:
California, with one-quarter of the nation’s immigrants and its greatest concentration of Mexicans and Central Americans, is the bellwether state for all things relating to unbridled Hispanic immigration, including crime. The Children of Immigrants Longitudinal Study, conducted by sociologists Alejandro Portes of Princeton and RubĂ©n G. Rumbaut of the University of California, Irvine, followed the children of immigrants in San Diego and Miami from 1992 to 2003. A whopping 28 percent of Mexican-American males between the ages of 18 and 24 reported having been arrested since 1995, and 20 percent reported having been incarcerated—a rate twice that of other immigrant groups. Anyone who speaks to Hispanic students in immigrant-saturated schools in Southern California will invariably hear the estimate that 50 percent of a student’s peers have ended up in gangs or other criminal activities.
[. . .]
A 2006 article from the LA Times, which cites LAPD chief William Bratton, reported:
The numbers reveal a wide racial divide regarding violent crime.
Blacks make up about 11% of the city’s population but account for 38% of all homicide victims and 29% of suspects, according to the statistics. By contrast, whites make up 30% of the population but account for just 6% of homicide victims and 2% of suspects. Latinos make up 47% of the population and constitute 50% of homicide victims and 66% of suspects.
Ann Coulter has repeatedly made a broader point not addressed by Mr. Todd on his program — that the proper number of crimes we should be satisfied with immigrants committing is zero yet, instead, we bring in millions of immigrants “from countries with far worse crime rates than our own.”

“This was our family’s 9/11 terrorist attack by a foreign invader,” she said at the most pivotal point in her testimony. “It is going to take another life lost by a Senator, a Congressman, the President, even another of today’s heroes, someone from Hollywood before someone in a position moves on this.”
“My son’s name was Joshua Wilkerson,” she began. “On November 16, 2010, he was beaten, strangled, tortured until he died. He was tied up, thrown in a field, and set on fire. His killer, Hermilo Moralez, was brought here illegally by his illegal parents when he was ten years old, so he fit the ‘DREAM’ kid description. He was sentenced to life in prison, which means it will be 30 years before he’s up for parole. He’ll be a 49-year-old man, who I don’t expect to be deported. And I just hope he doesn’t come to live in your city.”
Ms. Wilkerson’s son was murder by an illegal immigrant who, because he came to the country as a minor, would have qualified for Obama’s 2012 executive amnesty granted to illegal immigrant minors — or so-called DREAMers, whom Obama insists “belong here.”
[. . .]
“This was our family’s 9/11 terrorist attack by a foreign invader, whether you want to recognize it or whether you do not,” Wilkerson said. “This government continues to fail or even recognize that we have an issue. Americans are dying daily at the hands of criminals that we don’t even know are here.”
“You’re officially notified today there’s a problem when this happens. You can’t deny it any longer. You cannot you cannot stand by and ignore our families — our American families. You’re elected by Americans, not any other country. You should be for Americans,” she emphasized. “If you want to sit quietly on the sidelines, you’ve thrown your hat into the ring already. Your silence speaks volumes. You’re either for Americans, or you’re not.
“I will not give up another one of my children so that a foreign person can have a nicer life. I’m not going to do it. You don’t understand the pain. It’s so deep in the soul — in the place you don’t even recognize you have. There aren’t words to describe the pain to someone who has not gone through it. I’m not giving up another kid,” she said.
Wilkerson then issued a blistering attack on sanctuary city policies that provide safe harbor and anonymity for dangerous, criminal aliens who are living illegally in the United States. She said:
Sanctuary city policies scream to the criminal element of illegals in this country: ‘Come to our town USA, we’ll protect you from our terrible policemen. We’ll protect you from these tough American laws, that you — because you had a hard life — are not able to go through the same motion that an American is.’ It is going to take another life lost by a Senator, a Congressman, the President, even another of today’s heroes, someone from Hollywood before someone in a position moves on this. I urge you: you are in a position to do something about this for Americans.
“I thank you, Mr. Trump for getting a message out about the nation in two minutes… that countless families like my own have been trying to say for five to six years. It feels good to be heard whether you love him, or whether you don’t, I felt heard.”
[. . .]
Illegal aliens aren’t living in the shadows, she added; they boldly break our laws and demand taxpayer freebies. She went on:
They’re not scared to come here. We’re inviting them. Sanctuary cities says, ‘Come on down.’ Sympathy has never trumped the law in this country. Ever. Everyone of them here threaten national security because we don’t know who they are. They make a decision to come here. They’re not scared, and they’re invited by sanctuary city policies. They aren’t scared to wait in line for a hand-out that every American citizen has paid into the system for our children if need be. They mistrust police because they come from countries that mistrust police. They’re not scared here.
I want you to know that our family is broken, forever. We are forever broken. I don’t want the sympathy. I want you to do something about it.

Testimony of Laura Wilkerson, Mother Of 18 Year-Old Killed By Illegal Immigrant

Her husband, Sacramento County sheriff’s Deputy Danny Oliver, was killed last October

[From article]
Danny Oliver, 47, was killed Oct. 24, 2014, at a Motel 6 parking lot near Arden Way. Authorities say Luis Enriquez Monroy Bracamontes, who was in the U.S. illegally, killed Oliver at the start of a regionwide crime spree in which he also killed Placer County sheriff’s Detective Michael Davis Jr. and wounded several others. Bracamontes faces the death penalty.
Susan Oliver said her husband, a father of two and 15-year department veteran, loved his job working in the problem-oriented policing program, known as POP.
“The last thing my husband attempted to do as a POP officer was to ask the man inside the car how his day was going,” Oliver said. “But he never made it to the driver’s window.”

Liz Sullivan, mother of Kathryn Steinle, is consoled by Sabine Durden as she cries during the testimony of Kathryn's father Jim Steinle during a Senate Judiciary hearing in Washington on Tuesday. The family told Congress they support changing the laws that allowed her alleged killer to remain in the United States despite being deported several times.

Don Rosenberg, whose son was killed by an illegal immigrant in a drunken driving incident, but who was not on the witness panel, stepped forward and scolded sanctuary city defenders.
“How dare you!” he said in remarks that appeared to be addressed to the Rev. Gabriel Salguero, pastor of Lamb’s Church of the Nazarene in New York City, who defended sanctuary policies.
[. . .]
The hearing highlighted a shift in the immigration debate. Over the last few years, immigrant rights advocates have essentially won the public debate, focusing on sympathetic illegal immigrants, and so-called Dreamers in particular, who have made good on their chances of a better life in the U.S.
But enforcement supporters had argued that gave a one-sided portrayal of the issue and insisted illegal immigration wasn’t a victimless crime. Tuesday’s hearing put an exclamation point on those claims.
“I want you to be angry that America’s borders are wide open. America does not know who is in this country. It is time to put Americans first,” Ms. Wilkerson said. “Close the borders, figure out who is really here. Keep statistics. Realize that we are at war right here in this country.”
[. . .]
Mr. Grassley also prodded Mr. Rodriguez over Mr. Obama’s 2012 tentative deportation amnesty, and one case in particular, where an illegal immigrant granted amnesty was later accused of four murders in North Carolina. Mr. Rodriguez has admitted the man had gang ties that should have prevented him from being approved for the amnesty.
But when Mr. Grassley demanded to know who had been fired over the incident, Mr. Rodriguez said nobody had been cut loose. Instead, he said, employees had been “counseled” on how to apply the amnesty so gang members don’t get approved. He also said his agency had rechecked hundreds of thousands of amnesty recipients to weed out other gang members.

Sheikh Mohamed Kariye, in a file photo, leaves the U.S. Court of Appeals in Portland after oral arguments on the ACLU no-fly list lawsuit.
(AP file photo)
[From article]
The FBI acknowledged Monday that a joint investigation by its agents and those of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement prompted the government's move on Monday to revoke the citizenship of the imam of Portland's biggest mosque.
"The U.S. Department of Justice is pursuing Mr. (Mohamed Sheikh Abdirahman) Kariye'sdenaturalization based on his illegal procurement of naturalization; specifically, Mr. Kariye obtained his U.S. citizenship by providing false information and willful misrepresentation and concealment of material facts including his criminal history and failed to establish that he was a person of good moral character during the requisite statutory period," the FBI wrote in a news statement. "Due to the ongoing legal proceedings, no further information is available at this time."
[. . .]
The Associated Press broke the story, based on a 34-page civil petition, which accuses Kariye of failing to tell immigration officials that he raised money, recruited fighters and provided training for insurgents battling the Soviet military in its 1980s war in Afghanistan.
The U.S. backed those mujahideen fighters in a proxy war against the Soviet Union, helping to topple the financially crippled superpower and end the Cold War.
Monday's petition suggests that Kariye for a time had direct dealings with Osama bin Laden, who later came to head al-Qaida, along with a precursor terrorist organization known as Maktab Al-Khidamat. The government alleges that Kariye did not list those affiliations in his application for citizenship.
An associate of Kariye, reached at a post-Ramadan celebration, said the imam had not yet read the government's petition.
Kariye, whose father was one of Somalia's most popular imams, is leader of Masjed As-Saber in Southwest Portland.

An activist Jesuit priest who spent three years living alongside besieged civilians and rebels in the Syrian city of Homs was assassinated Monday, according to the Vatican, which said he was abducted by unidentified gunmen who beat him before executing him in front of his monastery.
Father Francis Van Der Lugt, 75, a Dutch Jesuit priest, came to Syria in 1966 and eventually founded a home for children and adults with mental disabilities outside Homs, where he lived before the three-year-old civil war started.

Lawyer Murdered in Guatemala

I read this story just after reading one in New York magazine about Alex Jones. Jones was disparaged as the leader of conspiracists. But the story about reality in Guatemala makes Jones seem like a normal human being. Reality is more bizarre than fiction. I see many parallels with groups in the US, operating as they do in Guatemala.

[From article]
"Criminal networks have infiltrated virtually every government and law-enforcement agency, and more than half the country is no longer believed to be under the control of any government at all.
[. . .]
Incredibly, the death rate in Guatemala is now higher than it was for much of the civil war. And there is almost absolute impunity: ninety-seven per cent of homicides remain unsolved, the killers free to kill again. In 2007, a U.N. official declared, “Guatemala is a good place to commit a murder, because you will almost certainly get away with it.”
[. . .]
In 2007, Colom, representing a social-democratic coalition, won the Presidency—the first time in five decades that a left-of-center leader had ruled Guatemala. The election was one of the bloodiest in the country’s history: more than fifty local candidates and party activists were murdered, and Colom’s campaign manager was nearly killed by three grenades thrown at his motorcade.
[. . .]
Since Colom took power, two of his interior ministers have been indicted for corruption (a third died in a mysterious helicopter crash), and four consecutive heads of the national police have been dismissed, indicted, or jailed for alleged malfeasance.
[. . .]
In the nineteen-fifties, the C.I.A. had contemplated an assassination campaign against left-wing Guatemalan targets and disseminated a treatise on the art of political murder: “The subject may be stunned or drugged and then placed in the car, but this is only reliable when the car can be run off a high cliff or into deep water without observation.”
[. . .]
Castresana realized that he could not bring criminals to justice before he had removed at least some of the most corrupt officials.
[. . .]
Castresana seized upon a rule in CICIG’S charter that permitted the organization to petition local officials to punish unethical officials. Through this process, his team began to remove more than fifteen hundred corrupt police officers, including fifty police commissioners and the deputy director of the national police. CICIG also “invited” nearly a dozen prominent prosecutors to leave their posts,
[. . .]
Anita Isaacs, a political scientist and an expert on Guatemala, who knows Castresana, told me that the networks traditionally relied on three ways to remove an enemy: “The first is to bribe you—but they could not bribe Castresana. The second is to kill you—but they could not kill Castresana. Finally, if all else fails, they destroy your reputation. And that is what they did to Castresana.”
[. . .]
At a press conference announcing his decision, Castresana, in a final salvo, denounced Colom’s new Attorney General for alleged ties to “parallel powers,” including organized crime.
[. . .]
He said of the attacks on his reputation, “They have hurt my image forever.”
[. . .]
The proliferation of counterfeit realities underscored the difficulty of ascertaining the truth in a country where there are so few arbiters of it.
