Government Housing Chief Wants Balanced Discourse At Harvard. Heehee

Mr. Haldeman wants balanced discourse about government subsidized
house purchases for people who are unable to pay their mortgages. At
Harvard, he wants balanced discourse? What is this guy thinking? Does
he know where he is?

Broke Fannie Mae Paying Bank Fees

[From article]
"mostly-hidden government program called HARP to accomplish these restructurings. HARP stands for the Home Affordable Refinance Program.
[. . .]
But where, exactly, are the banks getting the money they are earning in these refinancings?
One bank that’s prominent in the home refinancing business says its fees are being paid by the government. Fannie Mae, to be exact.
[. . .]
Do I care that banks have found a way to make money? Or that homeowners are getting a nice deal from the government? Or that Fannie Mae, in its delicate situation, is giving away revenue to banks that have already been bailed out?
Sure, I care about all those things.
But I mostly care that nobody in Washington seems to know what the guy down the street is doing."

HUD Deceives Public

[From article]
"To add insult to injury, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan said this week, "We are focused on the process early, to keep people in their homes, rather than focusing late, when it is much less likely that people will be able to stay in their homes." There is really no great way to interpret this statement.
It's like walking into a 9 a.m. meeting at 10:30 and proclaiming you are "early." It doesn't exactly pass the giggle test."

Fannie and Freddie Still Bleeding

[From article]
"The federal government's explicit commitment to Fannie and Freddie now surpasses $2 trillion. On top of that are $8.1 trillion in Fannie and Freddie securities now outstanding -- obligations that both Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner have stated their unwavering commitment to meeting, should Fannie and Freddie need assistance."

Obama Cooking the Books

"The ploy here is simple. They are keeping Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac off the government’s balance sheet and out of the federal budget, along with their $1.6 trillion of corporate debt and $4.7 trillion of mortgage obligations.
[. . .]
this was supposed to be the administration that, in his words, would put an end to “the era of irresponsibility in Washington.” Instead, he has provided us a new beginning.

[. . .]
Excluding Fannie and Freddie, the national debt held by the public is about $7.9 trillion. With them, it exceeds last year’s $13.2 trillion gross domestic product.
[. . .]
The government lacks moral standing to prosecute crimes such as accounting fraud when its own books lack integrity."
