Mothers Unite Against Natural Gas Leaks

This is a noble cause, which is not easily solved. The underground pipes are old and need to be replaced. At one intersection in Cambridge (Broadway and Prescott Street) it took multiple openings of the streets to find the leak. Ten years passed after I first reported the leak. Don't want to discourage the effort. It requires diligence, persistence and patience.

Two members of Illinois State University's athletic department were among the seven people killed when their small plane crashed near the Bloomington airport while returning from the NCAA basketball championship game in Indianapolis, authorities said.
They were identified as Aaron Leetch, deputy director of athletics for external operations, and Torrey Ward, associate head coach of the Redbirds men’s basketball team.

Police Chief Scott Keller confirmed to Delmarva Now that seven of the eight victims were juveniles between the ages of six and 16, but they have not been officially named as of midnight pending the notification of next of kin.
Bonnie and Lloyd Edwards, encountered outside the home by a reporter from The Associated Press, identified themselves as the mother and stepfather of Rodney Todd, 36, whom they identified as the adult who died. They said Todd had seven children, including five girls and two boys.
Bonnie Edwards identified the children as boys Cameron Todd, 13, and Zycheim Todd, 7; and girls Tynijuiza Todd, 15; Tykira Todd, 12; Tybree Todd, 10; Tyania Todd, 9; and Tybria Todd, 6.
Officers who responded to the home in the 30500 block of Antioch Avenue entered the residence and found the eight family members dead inside.
Officers observed that a gas generator in the kitchen had run out of fuel. The home had no electricity.
Chief Keller said they knew at once 'there weren't any live people in there.'

A government source said there were no permits for any sort of work at 121 Second Ave., where other sources have said previously that “careless” workers accidentally ruptured a gas main Thursday afternoon.
Shortly after the blast, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Con Ed workers had been at the scene earlier in the day to inspect the installation of a new, larger gas main, but the work failed Con Ed’s inspection.
Con Ed President Craig Ivey also said gas service to the new main was shut off and “locked with our lock.”
It was unclear why Con Ed was inspecting work being done without a permit, and a spokesman for the utility refused to comment ahead of a planned 2 p.m. news conference.

What about water and oil leaks? Lost electronics, food products etc. The consumer and taxpayer always pay for theft and leakage. Why is natural gas prioritized?

The bill will reduce natural gas leaks by financially incentivizing utilities to make repairs to pipes and eventually disallowing the cost of “lost and unaccounted for” gas from being passed on to consumers, including homeowners, businesses, manufacturers, municipalities, and the state.
The prevalence of gas leaks was revealed in a Harvard University study showing Greater Boston’s natural gas leaks to be more extensive, expensive, and damaging to the climate than was previously believed. The study estimated that gas leaks cost customers $90 million per year in Greater Boston alone.
