Pro Russian Ukrainian Separatists Shoot Down Two Fighter Jet Planes

Pro-Russian rebels shot down two Ukrainian fighter jets on Wednesday, not far from where a Malaysian airliner was brought down last week in eastern Ukraine, killing all 298 passengers on board.
Ukraine’s Security Council said Wednesday that preliminary information indicated the missiles that brought down the jets were fired from Russia. “Two of our jets were hit at an altitude of 5,200 metres. According to preliminary information, the missiles were launched from the territory of the Russian Federation,” the council said in a statement.

The separatist group Donetsk People’s Republic claimed in a statement on its website that one of the pilots was killed and another was being sought by rebel fighters.
