Former Massachusetts Probation Chief's Trial Begins

In the words of a federal prosecutor, John O’Brien is being charged with running the Probation Department “like a candy store,” doling out Probation jobs across the state to his friends in state government and the judiciary.

In other words, a large hunk of the state’s political establishment may well end up in federal court over the next couple of months, brought there by a guy whose alleged currency was probation jobs.
