EBT fraud is used to mislead taxpayers about waste of public funds. People fear someone is getting something for nothing. But it is usually a misguided concern. Not to condone the abuses of EBT cards, but corporations get much larger subsidies, e.g. Solyndra got half a billion in taxpayer money. Providing support, including free housing is cheaper for the taxpayers. Some homeless individuals cost local governments more than $1 million per year. A rational approach with scrutiny will save taxpayers money. But politicians who shamelessly spend other people's money, waste much more than fraud by poor persons.
