"Unions such as the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, the National Education Association and the Service Employees International Union give hundreds of millions of dollars to Democrats -- some $171 million in 2010 alone. They give almost nothing to Republicans.
Where does that money come from? From union members' dues. In what is effectively a criminal enterprise were it not for the moment legal, public-union leaders negotiate ever-larger pay and benefits from the very politicians to whom they then kick back "campaign contributions." All at taxpayer expense."

"Public officials have a huge conflict of interest in negotiating these contracts, because the government unions trade votes for deals on wage and benefit hikes -- even if it means saddling taxpayers with higher taxes and more debt. In other words, the people negotiating on taxpayers' behalf have a huge incentive to ignore the taxpayers' interest in contract talks.
